Item type:Publication, Estimating Parking Building Spiral Ramp Capacity Using Traffic Microsimulation Technique(2025-09-30)This study aims to determine the traffic flow capacity on spiral ramps within a multi-story car parking building. A spiral ramp flow capacity is a crucial element in parking building design when considering traffic flow efficiency and safety. This study applies a microsimulation modeling analysis technique to estimate the traffic flow capacity on the spiral ramp. In the methodology, modified driving behavior variables are used in the traffic model to reflect the driving behavior within the chosen parking building in Bangkok, Thailand. For planning purposes, having the knowledges of obtaining a robust spiral ramp’s capacity simplifies the process of calculating the number of spiral ramps required for multi-story large-scale parking buildings with improved economic utility, safety, and efficiency in traffic flow. According to this study driving speed and width of the ramp directly affects the traffic flow capacity of the ramp. The spiral ramp’s traffic flow capacity of the small, medium, large, and extra-large width spiral ramp is 836 vehicles per hour, 976 vehicles per hour, 1,055 vehicles per hour, and 1,165 vehicles per hour respectively. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Evaluation of effect of median u-turns on multilane primary highway capacity in Thailand through traffic micro-simulation models(2018-09-30) ;Chaipanha, Wuttikrai ;Tanwanichkul, LaddaThis article aims to analyze the effect of median U-turns and estimate the capacity of primary highways in Thailand using a traffic micro-simulation model. Six-lane and four-lane primary highways were selected for the study. The base condition results determined that the maximum capacity of a six-lane primary highway was 2,130 passenger cars/hour/lane, while the four-lane primary highway capacity was recorded as 2,194 passenger cars/hour/lane. Both results were slightly higher than those of the HCM2010 approach. Under prevailing conditions, both sections exhibited lower capacities than the HCM results by approximately 33.7% and 19.8% for the six-lane and four-lane primary highways, respectively, causing the impact of the median U-turn and highway characteristics in Thailand to directly affect traffic and driving behavior. Using the micro-simulation results, an equation was also regressed for estimating the capacity resulting from the impact of the median U-turns and heavy vehicles. Item type:Publication, Factors Affecting User Satisfaction of Local Van (Songthaew): A Case Study of The Local Van (Songthaew) Route 1263 In Pattanakarn Road Soi 20, Bangkok(2024-04-01) ;Wichian, ChaturaphakThe research aims to identify the factors affecting satisfaction and suggestions from users of local van (songthaew) route 1263. This will propose measures to manage the operations and improve level of satisfaction. The researcher has established a set of questionnaires for 400 random respondents and using Multiple Regression Analysis to determine the correlation between factors that affect satisfaction. Discover correlations between factors influencing satisfaction using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. It was found that factors affecting user satisfaction of local van (songthaew) route 1263 in Pattanakarn road soi 20 by the average satisfaction score of the factors that affect satisfaction (Y<inf>1</inf>) would be management (X<inf>1</inf>), physical aspects of vehicles (X<inf>2</inf>), service (X<inf>3</inf>), safety (X<inf>4</inf>) and environment (X<inf>5</inf>). The equation of predicting satisfaction is Y<inf>1</inf> =-2.164E-15 + 0.148 X<inf>1</inf> + 0.333 X<inf>2</inf> + 0.259 X<inf>3</inf> + 0.148 X<inf>4</inf> + 0.111X<inf>5</inf> The variables can predict the overall satisfaction (Y<inf>1</inf>) with adjusted R-Square all four factors have equivalent to 1.000 for accuracy (100.0%), the relationship between variables is equal to 1.000. The above equation shows the overall satisfaction across all with an average predictive value (Predicted Y<inf>1</inf>) of 3.28 (moderate satisfaction). There is a correlation (Pearson Correlation) among there five factors and their satisfaction in the order of the relationship as follow: service (r = 0.764), safety (r = 0.739), environment (r = 0.638), physical aspects of vehicles (r = 0.236) and management (r = 0.058) a significant relationship except for management. The top three additional suggestions from users are installation of GPS systems on the local van (songthaew) route 1263 for convenient passenger tracking (23.0%), decreasing the running time (15.5%), and repairing damaged seats (14.5%). Prioritizing the bus operations management and safety regulations must be established by relevant governmental agencies to promote customer satisfaction. Vehicle examinations must strictly adhere to substantial practices. Operators should receive training on safe driving and outstanding service to boost passenger confidence and service. User suggestions regarding the management are, for example, an appropriate schedule and bus operation punctuality. There should be collaboration between government agencies and the private sector in order to accommodate passengers on main public transportation while connecting with local ones. A public hearing among stakeholders from both the private and governmental sectors should be held in order to gain ideas for improvement, such as fare promotion. Customer satisfaction will be improved if the above measures, along with all other recommendations, are taken into serious consideration by the operator and government agencies. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

The study area is more developed due to the activation of the Bang Sue Central Station red line train and the increasing facilities for various forms of transportation. There is also a large number of pedestrians in the study area. Therefore, this study assessed the ability to walk in the overall network of the area using the (Walkability Index, WI). This method includes factors and physical problems faced by pedestrian users in the affected area. Item type:Publication, Car ownership demand modeling using machine learning: Decision trees and neural networks(2019-01-01) ;Kaewwichian, Patiphan ;Tanwanichkul, LaddaA household car ownership modeling is crucial in understanding the impact on an individual's or a family's travel behavior in traveling demand analysis. Trips or tours as a unit of analysis can be used in the modeling of car ownership demand for analyzing travel needs. Machine learning is widely used to describe a car owner's decision since the machine learning model was specifically designed to give more accurate predictions through a variety of mechanisms. This research presents car ownership modeling using two types of machine learning models, including decision trees and neural networks. The impacts of socio-demographic attributes on household car ownership demand are discussed and compared against these two models after adding the main attributes of variables from tour-based models. Data was collected from 2,015 households surveyed in Khon Kaen Province, Thailand, conducted in 2015. The outcomes indicate that the machine learning model can be used to predict household car ownership. It also found that when using the default parameters across all datasets, whereas the neural networks provide a more accurate result than the decision tree algorithm. However, in cases where the household car ownership prediction from the dataset with add attributes of the key variable used in tour-based models. In that case, the neural networks algorithm would give a prediction accuracy that corresponded to results as found from the prediction using a dataset with only the household's socio-demographic attributes. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Attitudes of Pedestrians when Using Crosswalks with Distinct Traffic Lanes: A Case Study on Chaeng Watthana Road, Lat Krabang Road, and Kingkaeo Road(2024-01-01) ;Booncharoenpanya, VeerapongOne of the most important modes of transportation in cities and suburbs is walking. In large urban areas, walking reduces traffic congestion. However, data indicates that Bangkok is responsible for 1 in 3 pedestrian accidents per year, with an average of 900 such incidents taking place there. Furthermore, based on data collected from 2013 to 2017, car-pedestrian collisions are categorized by the highest severity index due to the average of 55 fatalities per 100 accidents. These statistics show that there are, on average, 740 pedestrian-vehicle incidents annually. The data indicates that to lower the number of pedestrian fatalities, walking mode needs to be enhanced. Consequently, the investigator was interested in determining how crossing facilities and people's attitudes are related. The goal of this research is to examine significant variables that influence how pedestrians feel about crossing the street. A questionnaire was used to collect data, which was separated into two sections: attitude about crossing the road and attitude regarding safety when crossing the road. The study's sample crosswalks are located on Chaeng Watthana Road, Lat Krabang Road, and King Kaew Road. Descriptive statistics and linear regression were employed in the analysis to consider social characteristics, variables related to past road crossing experience, variables regarding attitudes toward using road crossings, and variables regarding crossing facilities. Results from 412 questionnaires show that the number of traffic lanes, vehicle volume and vehicle speed were determined to be the primary factors significantly reducing the attitude of security that one feels when crossing the street. Furthermore, the outcomes held up when descriptive statistics were used for analysis. Item type:Publication, Impact of motorcycles and shoulder width on two-lane highway capacity in Thailand using traffic micro-Simulation model(2019-12-01) ;Chaipanha, Wuttikrai ;Tanwanichkul, LaddaThe effect of motorcycle and shoulder width on two-lane highway capacity using a traffic micro-simulation model was investigated, together with other effect factors, which are heavy vehicles and access points. Four sections of a two-lane highway that have different shoulder widths were selected for the study. Under prevailing conditions, a two-lane highway with a shoulder width of fewer than 1.5 meters will cause a motorcycle to interfere with the carriageway and other impact factors that make capacity significantly less than HCM2010 calculation. The analysis of the base conditions model determined that the maximum capacity of a two-lane highway with a shoulder width of 2.0 meters was 1979 passenger car/hour/direction. Two-lane highways with shoulder widths of 1.5, 1.0 and 0.5 meters recorded maximum capacity at 1914, 1860 and 1789 passenger car/hour/direction, respectively, with all results higher than the HCM 2010 calculation. Model equations for capacity estimation were developed using multiple linear regression analysis derived from the relationships between capacity, shoulder width, and other affecting factors. Item type:Publication, A Study of Efficiency and Economic Value of Grade Separated Construction Project: Case Study of Grade Separated Without Ramp across The Sri Ayutthaya Intersection Bangkok(2024-01-01) ;Bilee, RachataThis research was conducted to analyze the efficiency and economic value of grade separated construction projects in a large city due to heavy traffic volumes. This is consistent with the current situation where traffic volumes are continually increasing. In order to reduce fuel consumption, accidents and travel time. In this research, the efficiency and economic value of grade separated without ramp across Sri Ayutthaya intersection will be studied, Bangkok (Thailand), is considered in the form of an underpass through the intersection by using the VISSIM program to create and develop micro simulation traffic models. Then, the economic cost-benefit analysis of the project is evaluated by considering the economic worthiness of the project from a comparison between the case with the project and without the project. The economic worthiness of the project is analyzed by using Net Present Value (NPV), Benefit-Cost Ratio (B/C ratio) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). From the results of this study, it was found that after developing the current area, which is a ground level intersection into an underpass. Traffic at intersections will be more efficient. And helps reduce traffic congestion at intersections. This is because the average delay of each type of vehicle decreased after the project. Performance measures at intersections can be summarized as the average vehicle delay in the project start year (2027) for motorcycles decreased from 364.48 seconds/vehicle to 85.93 seconds/vehicle, passenger cars decreased from 369.35 seconds/vehicle to 78.42 seconds/vehicle, trucks decreased from 282.19 seconds/vehicle to 78.96 seconds/vehicle, and buses decreased from 420.47 seconds/vehicle to 65.07 seconds/vehicle. And it can be concluded that the project of grade separated construction in the form of an underpass across Sri Ayutthaya Intersection. It is economically worthwhile and suitable for investment. Because the net present value (NPV) in the 15th year of the project (2041) is equal to 1,752.18 million baht, which is greater than 0, the benefits-costs ratio (B/C Ratio) in the 15th year of the project (2041) is equal to 3.61, which is greater than 1, and the internal rate of return (IRR) at the 15th year of the project (2041) is equal to 42%, which is greater than 12%.1
