    Perspectives of Thai Listed Companies on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals
    (2019-05-16) ;
    Chhang, Rady
    The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development encourages both public and private sectors to contribute in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include 169 targets covering all social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Thai government incorporated SDGs as the key agenda to be addressed in its 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan and the 20-yr National Strategy. The government has to rely on private sector's contribution to achieve the national targets. In the past few years, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and some Thai listed companies have been very active in promoting sustainability practices; however, their understanding and contribution to the SDGs remain unclear. This study investigated their perspectives, policy, and planned actions towards SDGs using structural equation modelling technique. The results show that investor is the key driver for SDGs and can influence business strategies of companies towards achieving the SDGs. The findings can contribute to understanding current directions and conditions of Thai listed companies to integrate government sustainability policies in their business strategies.

    Systems thinking is normally accepted as the backbone of a successful systems approach and understanding the big picture. Systemigrams help system engineers map the relation between members in the systems of interest (SOI) and provide text and pictures that were drawn on a map, so Systemigrams are used to present a picture of the whole system or present individual system components and contexts in a supply chain system. Moreover, a systems approach shows the full perspective of a business architecture and links the vision of the organization into real action. In summary, a business architecture could transform business processes in each department of a university from manual processes to more productive automated processes. In this study, we have drawn Systemigrams and a designed framework to bring the value through the education supply chain with a digital business process. This study can provide a framework to implement a digital supply chain transformation in a typical Thai university, KMITL, and then we apply it to the other tertiary education institutions and the other service business sectors in Thailand and similar countries.

    Consumer perspectives on premium price of ecologically friendly product: A case study of ophthalmic lens in Thailand
    (2019-05-16)
    Tuna, Nida
    ;
    Due to the increase of public environmental awareness especially in terms of climate change and resource depletion problems, consumers tend to change their consumption preference towards sustainable development and circular economy concepts. Green and environmentally friendly products are becoming more demanded in various business sectors. Therefore, manufacturers are driven to change their products to be more eco-friendly. Theoretically, being green should save some costs; however, this business transformation requires some investment and may cause product's price to increase. Thus, it is important to understand whether or not the consumers are willing to pay more for being "green" along with other factors that influence their green purchasing decisions. The study found that approximately 90% of the respondents are willing to pay more for green ophthalmic lens products compared to typical ophthalmic lens products. There is relationship between green awareness and willingness to pay more for green products. The results of the study can be used to enact government sustainability policies and business strategies.

    Green Campus initiative and its impacts on quality of life of stakeholders in Green and Non-Green Campus universities
    (2016-12-01) ;
    Hollmann, Nicholas M.
    In 2010, Universitas Indonesia (UI) developed the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking for universities to share information about their sustainability practices. This ranking system was well aligned with the basis of Sustainability for Higher Education. The scoring system can also be used as a guideline for universities to achieve sustainability in their campuses. Since its first launch, more universities around the world have increasingly participated in the ranking system including many universities in Thailand. This study compared perception of stakeholders in Green Campus and Non-Green Campus universities in Thailand regarding stakeholders’ satisfaction on sustainability practices and perceived quality of life at their campuses. The results showed that stakeholders at the studied Green Campus University were more satisfied and had significantly better perceived quality of life compared to stakeholders from the studied Non-Green Campus university. The results suggested that universities should adopt the criteria set in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking to achieve better sustainability in their campuses and improve quality of life of their stakeholders.

    International Freight Transportation Problems under GMS-CBTA: Case Study of Thailand-Cambodia
    (2019-10-25)

    ;
    The governments of Thailand and Cambodia have enacted a policy under the GMS agreement to facilitate and increase trade and transport capacity. One of the key components is to improve land transport performance on the designated routes between Bangkok and Phnom Penh under the GMS-CBTA. However, the policy has not been considered effective as expected because licensed logistic companies still do not use that privilege. They also use the traditional method in which cargo is transhipped by local trucks at the borderline. In light of the problem, this study systematically investigated the root causes of the agreement ineffectiveness. Some recommendations for improving the performance of operation are given.
