    The prevalence of capripoxvirus causing lumpy skin disease in beef cattle with no clinical signs on a well-managed cooperative farm

    Capripoxviruses were confidently detected in cattle, exhibiting a prevalence of 1.17% (9 out of 770 samples). The PCR products from the infected cattle consistently ranged from 1,000 to 1,500 base pairs, even at very low viral loads. Importantly, no significant differences in infection rates were found between the summer and rainy seasons (P > 0.05), and the prevalence was not associated with specific geographical regions or the timing of blood sample collection (P > 0.05). Notably, infected cattle displayed no clinical signs, such as skin nodules, emphasising that the disease can be present without causing visible harm. These findings strongly reinforce the necessity for stringent disease prevention measures in beef cattle production to effectively mitigate potential losses.

    Amla extract's impact on pre-weaning piglet diarrhea: An investigation into the therapeutic potential of Indian Gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica L.)

    The crude extract of Amla was found to be effective in treating pre-weaning piglet diarrhea. In this study, the group given a 25% extract concentration showed the most rapid recovery (4.80±0.57 days) and highest body weight gain (3240.00±45.83 g/piglet) over 15 days, outperforming the control group. Additionally, treatment costs were significantly lower in the 25% Amla crude extract group (0.039 USD per piglet) compared to the control group (0.052 USD per piglet). These findings suggested that Amla crude extract could be a cost-efficient alternative for managing pre-weaning piglet diarrhea, especially at a 25% concentration. Moreover, it addressed the issues of treatment expenses and antimicrobial resistance.

    Molecular identification of Anaplasma ovis and Anaplasma marginale in Sheep using PCR-RFLP method

    Anaplasma is a protozoan blood in livestock such as cattle, goats and sheep. This pathogen leads to anaplasmosis, which is tick-borne disease, production loss and high costs due to disease prevention. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the epidemiology of Anaplasma of livestock. The results demonstrated that the semi-nested-PCR product was approximately 120 bp. The restriction endonuclease Bst1107I only recognized the sequence (GTATAC) in semi-nested PCR product of A. marginale and cut the sequence at the position 68. However, the restriction endonuclease was not able to cut the semi-nested PCR product of A. ovis at the same position because of the different sequence (GTACGC). The prevalence of A. ovis and A. marginale infection in sheep at Sa Kaeo Province was 3.66% (3/82) and 1.22% (1/82), respectively. The overall prevalence of Anaplasma infection in sheep was 7.32% (6/82). From this result, the PCR-RFLP method could be used to isolate A. ovis and A. marginale using this technique with high specificity and safe time to identify both types of infection.

    Coexistent infection event of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, porcine circovirus type 2 and Pasteurella multocida in swine

    Result elucidated the instances of concurrent infections by crucial pathogens in pigs, which is adversely impacted the herd's health status on a farm located in the Rachaburi province of Thailand. The farm which accommodated a population of 700 sows had found its fattening pig units exhibited unsatisfactory growth performance and an inconsistent size appearance. The serum samples underwent the testing via enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, unveiled a substantial antibody response to the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). The finding strongly indicated the prevalence of PRRSV infection within the farm. Furthermore, analysis of lymph node samples confirmed the presence of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) through conventional polymerase chain reaction. The bacterial culture carried out on lung samples which detected an infection caused by Pasteurella multocida. In summary, the investigation is conclusively established the occurrence of a mixed infection involving both viruses and bacteria on this farm, specifically PRRSV, PCV2, and P. multocida. The report is illustrated the possibility of multiple infections by viruses and bacteria, which can potentially undermine the efficacy of vaccinations and cause severe clinical signs on the farm.

    A molecular survey of Theileria spp. in Ruminants in the Thailand-Cambodia border region

    Theileriosis is caused by Theileria spp. Parasites which transmitted by various species of ticks including Amblyomma, Haemaphysalis, Hyalomma and Rhipicephalus. This pathogen can be found in red blood cells and white blood cells of farmed animals, including cattle, buffaloes, goats and sheep. Theileria spp. leads to a high morbidity in small ruminants, economic loss in agricultural production and time spent on infection prevention. It is necessary to detect the infection in a farm, as there are generally no clearly recognisable clinical signs. Our results revealed that infected animals displayed 230 bp DNA fragments, which is the length of the V4 region of the 18S rRNA gene of Theileria spp. The overall prevalence of Theileria spp. in ruminants farmed in Sa Kaeo Province, the border between Thailand and Cambodia, was 9% (29/314). The prevalence of Theileria spp. in meat cattle (6%), buffaloes(6%), meat goats (6%) and crossbred meat sheep (6%). It was also found that the prevalence of Theileria spp. was linked to neither species nor gender (p>0.05). Polymerase Chain Reaction was used to analyse Theileria spp. since it is very sensitive, specific and fast. Our analysis can be used to prevent and control the spread of Theileria infection in ruminants. Furthermore, this information may guide implemention of a policy on animal movement within the border regions.
