    Currently, stream data classification is a challenge task to discover new useful knowledge from massive and dynamic data in big data era. This paper proposes a streaming learning method based on the incremental learning using a new adaptive boosting algorithm for stream data. The proposed adaptive boosting consists of a new method for updating distribution weight and the new weight voting. This learning method concentrates on learning from sequential chunks of data stream. The distribution weight updating method uses error of previous hypothesis to update the weight. The learning method uses only one data chunk to create a new hypothesis at a time and after learning, the learned data chunk can be thrown away and can learn the new data chunk without using the previous learned data. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the proposed method is higher than other methods in all datasets.

    ;
    Patients with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are increasing around the globe. Possible causes of the NCDs are continuously being investigated. One of them is a sleep disorder. In order to detect specific sleep disorders, the Polysomnography (PSG), is necessary. However, due to the lack of the PSG in many hospitals, researchers attempt to discover alternative approaches. This article demonstrates comparisons of sleep disorder classifications using machine learning techniques. Three main machine learning techniques have been compared including Classification And Regression Tree (CART), k-Mean Clustering (KMC) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The SVM achieves the best classification results in NREM-1 and NREM-2. The CART performs superior in NREM-3 and REM. Implications in terms of medical diagnosis, there are two main selected features, SaO2 and Pulse, based on the CART in all of the sleep stages. The features may be pieces of evidences to predict various types of sleep disorders.

    A New Hybrid Sampling Approach for Classification of Imbalanced Datasets
    (2018-09-11)
    Nowadays it is an era of data driven. Many organizations around the world including bank, industry, commercial, and medical intend to extract knowledge from a huge of data. But in the real-word datasets, most of them occur class imbalance problems. This paper presents a new algorithm to handle an imbalanced classification. The proposed technique is a hybrid sampling approach which is the combination of a well know oversampling algorithm called SMOTE and the undersampling technique by removing the ambiguous instances from the majority class instances. The experimental results show that the new hybrid sampling method yields the better predictive performance in term of F-measure when compare with other sampling techniques. In addition, it can improve f-measure up to 59.73% and 412.26% when compare with the original dataset based on decision tree learning and naïve bayes classifiers respectively.

    In fashion applications, deep learning has been applied automatically to recognize and classify the apparel images under the massive visual data, emerged on social networks. To classify the apparel correctly and quickly is challenging due to a variety of apparel features and complexity of the classification. Recently, the hierarchical convolutional neural networks (H–CNN) with the VGGNet architecture was proposed to classify the fashion-MNIST datasets. However, the VGGNet (many layers) required many filters (in the convolution layer) and many neurons (in the fully connected layer), leading to computational complexity and long training-time. Therefore, this paper proposes to classify the apparel images by the H–CNN in cooperated with the new shallow-layer CCP-3-Block architecture, where each building block consists of two convolutional layers (CC) and one pooling layer (P). In the CCP-3-Block, the number of layers can be reduced (in the network), the number of filters (in the convolution layer), and the number of neurons (in the fully connected layer), while adding a new connection between the convolution layer and the pooling layer plus a batch-normalization technique before passing the activation so that networks can learn independently and train quickly. Moreover, dropout techniques were utilized in the feature mapping and fully connected to reduce overfitting, and the optimizer adaptive moment estimation was utilized to solve the decaying of gradients, which can improve the network-performance. The experimental results showed that the improved H–CNN model with our CCP-3-Block outperformed the recent H–CNN model with the VGGNet in terms of decreased loss, increased accuracy, and faster training.

    A Partition-Based Hybrid Algorithm for Effective Imbalanced Classification
    (2025-04-01)
    Theephoowiang, Kittipong
    ;
    Imbalanced classification presents a significant challenge in real-world datasets, requiring innovative solutions to enhance performance. This study introduces a hybrid binary classification algorithm designed to effectively address this challenge. The algorithm identifies different data types, pairs them, and trains multiple models, which then vote on predictions using weighted strategies to ensure stable performance and minimize overfitting. Unlike some methods, it is designed to work consistently with both noisy and noise-free datasets, prioritizing overall stability rather than specific noise adjustments. The algorithm’s effectiveness is evaluated using Recall, G-Mean, and AUC, measuring its ability to detect the minority class while maintaining balance. The results reveal notable improvements in minority class detection, with Recall outperforming other methods in 16 out of 22 datasets, supported by paired t-tests. The algorithm also shows promising improvements in G-Mean and AUC, ranking first in 17 and 18 datasets, respectively. To further evaluate its performance, the study compares the proposed algorithm with previous methods using G-Mean. The comparison confirms that the proposed algorithm also exhibits strong performance, further highlighting its potential. These findings emphasize the algorithm’s versatility in handling diverse datasets and its ability to balance minority class detection with overall accuracy.

    ;
    Many applications in the real world encounter the class imbalance problem. This problem affects the performance of the model prediction. Nowadays, resampling technique is a popular technique to handle the class imbalance problem such as oversampling, undersampling, and hybridsampling. Thus, this paper proposes a new hybrid resampling technique to deal with the class imbalance problem, called DBSM. The concept of DBSM is to use DBSCAN algorithm for undersampling and apply SMOTE technique for oversampling. The experimental results of the DBSM algorithm are compared with an original datasets and other sampling techniques, which are SMOTE, Tomek Links, SMOTE+Tomek Links and DBSCAN. The results show that the DBSM can improve the predictive performance of the classifiers. In addition, it yields the best in the average of AUC, F-measure, and accuracy.

    Hybrid Deep Learning Framework for Accurate Surface Defect Detection Using Autoencoder and CNNs
    (2026-01-01)

    ;
    ;
    Surface defect detection is paramount in industrial quality control. Conventional methods, which often rely on human inspection or manually engineered statistical models, frequently fail to accurately detect and classify defects, particularly on complex surfaces or those with intricate features. Human inspection is inherently inconsistent and prone to errors due to fatigue, while traditional machine vision systems often lack the sensitivity to clearly identify small or low-contrast defects. This paper proposes a hybrid deep learning framework, termed Autoencoders-Convolutional Neural Networks (AE-CNNs), DefectNet, for surface defect classification, AE, and CNNs to enhance both accuracy and efficiency. The AE is employed to extract and compress reliable features from surface images into latent representations, which are subsequently classified by a CNN enhanced through transfer learning using InceptionV3. The CNN is fine-tuned from a pretrained model with customized fully connected layers to adapt to specific defect characteristics, while the AE is trained exclusively on non-defective images. The encoded features produced by the AE serve as the input to the CNN. The proposed model is evaluated on standard benchmark datasets comprising diverse surface defect types and compared against Anomaly Detection with Autoencoder (ADA), Visual Geometry Group (VGG16), Inception-based Convolutional Neural Network Long Short-Term Memory (In-CNNLSTM), and DTL_Inception_v3. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method, achieving classification accuracies ranging from 85.60% to 100% across five datasets, including a perfect 100% accuracy on the glass bottle neck dataset.

    Automatic parameter tuning in aluminum extrusion based on genetic programming
    (2020-04-01)
    This work applies artificial intelligence in the aluminum extrusion process for automatic setting the ram speed of a machine according to the requirements of the industry. The automatic parameter tuning system computes the ram speed with the equation created by genetic programming (GP). In model evaluation, MAE and MAPE are used to measure a predictive performance of the models. In addition to GP, linear and polynomial regression are used to generate the automatic parameter tuning model for comparing a performance with GP. The experimental results on the test set show that GP performs the best in predictive performance with 0.130 of MAE and 4.22% of MAPE . Finally, the GP model has been developed as a software to calculate the ram speed and display it on a screen. This system will help users who are not proficient in aluminum extrusion or new users to have better control of production.

    ;
    Face recognition is an important task in smart home security for detecting a face or monitoring a person in a live video and verifying the identity of an authentic user. However, there have been spoofing face methods that can trick a face recognition algorithm into wrongly verifying the identity of the person. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid framework for spoofing face detection based on Convolutional Neural Network and Long Short-Term Memory (CNNLSTM) and instance-based learning algorithm. In addition, a new dataset called FSA-CCTV is proposed, which contains face images from CCTV video clips with many types of spoofing attacks. The performance of our method was compared to several other anti-spoofing methods: CNN and RI-LBP, SLRNN, HSV+YCbCr, ResNet50, YCbCr+SVM and YCbCr+KNN. The experimental results show that our method yielded 93.2% of Accuracy, 96.8% of Recall, 94% of Precision, 94.8% of F<inf>1</inf>-score and 0.93 of AUC on the FSA-CCTV dataset. From the experimental results we can conclude that the proposed algorithm outperforms other approaches and yielded the most stable classification accuracy on the proposed dataset.
