Item type:Publication, A Comparative Assessment of Life-Cycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Hypothetical Electric Airport Transportation Services in Thailand(2018-05-22)Global warming is an increase of average temperature in the atmosphere, which causes adverse effects on the environment. Carbon dioxide (CO<inf>2</inf>) from transportation sector is one of the main contributors of the overall greenhouse gases (GHG). To cope with this issue, electric car services are increasingly seen as popular alternative modes of green transportation especially for urban cities as it is more flexible, more environmentally-friendly, and less expensive than the use of conventional vehicles. The study analyses and compare the hypothetical electric car systems from airport transportation services. Center of Environmental Science of Leiden University (CML) 2001, the Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) method, is applied to convert life cycle inventory data into environmental impacts. The observed results showed that the electric shuttle bus had the highest impact in global warming potential (GWP) compared to other transportation types. Alternatively, this Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study that evaluated different transportations provided important information for decision makers on quantifying the differences between each scenario. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Development of a university innovation ecosystem assessment model for Association of Southeast Asian Nations universities(2022-12-01) ;Chaipongpati, Jirawan ;Thawesaengskulthai, NatchaUniversities are centres of innovation and technology transfer, and they play a particularly strong role in the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with developing technology programs. However, there are only a few assessment tools for evaluating a university’s innovation ecosystem, and these tools are frequently lacking either in terms of process orientation or in other gaps. The objective of this research was to develop a model of an innovation ecosystem for an ASEAN university and to identify the relative importance of each factor. A multi-method approach was used. In the Stage 1 research, a Delphi study of ASEAN-based university innovation experts (n = 40) was conducted. This research resulted in a preliminary assessment tool. This tool was then evaluated through a broader survey of university innovation experts in ASEAN (n = 418). The data were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis. The results identified a total of 21 innovation areas in four role-based domains: Leaders and Governors, Educators, Innovators and Connectors. The resulting assessment instrument is suitable for use in university innovation ecosystem development and policy making. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Sustainable Practices and Environmental Impact Assessment in a Lifelong Learning Center(2024-01-01); ; ;Saepoo, SakkarinFilimonau, ViachaslauClimate change is a major environmental challenge that should be mitigated by all parties concerned. One such party is the KMITL Lifelong Learning Canter (KLLC) which has committed to reducing its environmental externalities, including the impact of its operations on climate change. The idea of a “green KLLC” seeks to reduce adverse effects on the environment and improve indoor environmental quality through the use of natural building materials and biodegradable products, resource conservation (water, energy, paper), responsible waste disposal, and eco-friendly practices (recycling). To reduce these environmental externalities, the environmental performance of the KLLC canter should first be examined to establish measures for improvement. However, accurate evaluations of the environmental impact of Lifelong Learning Centers (LLCs) are uncommon because of the lack of data and the immaturity of appraisal methodologies. With a case study of KLLC, the newest LLC in Thailand, this paper appraises the environmental effects, thus setting benchmarks for subsequent studies. The appraisal demonstrates that the KLLC community can significantly reduce the environmental consequences by using e-certificates, motion sensor light installation, banana leaf packaging, solar cell installation, and carpooling systems. Although e-certificates and banana leaf packaging are the most cost-effective methods of implementation, the adoption of carpooling systems and electric vehicles demonstrates the highest potential for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction. The paper showcases how KLLC can reduce its GHG emissions and wastes, thus turning into a more environmentally sustainable business. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Sustainable urban waste collection using a hybrid heuristic–genetic approach: a Bangkok case study(2026-01-01) ;Hamontree, Chaowalit; Urban waste collection is a critical component of sustainable city development, directly influencing emissions reduction, resource efficiency, and public health. This study develops a hybrid optimization framework combining a Nearest Neighbor Heuristic with a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to optimize municipal waste collection routes in Bangkok, addressing the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) under real-world constraints such as vehicle capacity, time windows, and traffic conditions. The optimized algorithm reduced weekly travel distance by 8.51% and increased average vehicle utilization by 7.78%, translating into projected five-year economic benefits of over 4.7 million Baht and annual GHG emission reduction equivalent to planting approximately 1,750 trees. These findings demonstrate how algorithmic optimization can advance SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production) by aligning technical innovation with environmental and social outcomes. Beyond Bangkok, the framework is scalable to other rapidly urbanizing contexts, offering policymakers a data-driven pathway toward inclusive, low-carbon, and effective waste management systems. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Integrating Spatial-Temporal Risk Factors for an Ambulance Allocation Strategy: A Case Study in Bangkok(2018-08-14) ;Chaicharoenwut, Pakinai; ;Changpetch, Pannapa ;Buatongkue, SirisudaDedicated emergency medical services (EMS) are important to patients' chances of survival. In particular, the quicker such services arrive at the scene of an incident, the higher the survival rate. Therefore, the management of ambulance bases is an essential aspect of emergency medical services. Further, the locations of ambulance bases are determined based on patient demand. However, in practice, many elements should be taken into account in a risk assessment of given areas within a locale. Specifically, each area should be assessed for the number and severity of accidents that ordinarily take place there, the number and size of the public events it hosts, its population density, and the number of elderly people resident. In this study, we use a spatial-temporal approach to integrate those factors into a risk assessment of areas relative to each other in a locale. Based on this risk assessment, we determine the optimal locations for ambulance bases in order to minimize response time. We validate our approach using Bangkok as a case study. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Solvent extraction based reclaiming technique for the removal of heat stable salts (HSS) and neutral degradation products from amines used during the capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) from industrial flue gases(2019-12-01) ;Karnwiboon, Kanokkorn ;Krajangpit, Wallapa ;Supap, Teeradet ;Muchan, PailinSaiwan, ChintanaThis work used a modified OH-aliquat mixed with a new diluent, namely, 2-ethyl-1-hexanol to separate heat stable salts (HSS), namely, formate, glycolate and oxalate as well as neutral degradation products (i.e. imidazole, N-acethylethanolamine, 2-oxazolidone, N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-succinimide) from monoethanolamine (MEA), 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP), and N-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) and their blends which are amines/amine blends typically used for carbon dioxide (CO<inf>2</inf>) capture from industrial flue gases. The new diluent, which has a branched-chain structure, increased the extraction performance of the OH-aliquat up to 50% HSS removal from MEA solution compared to our previous straight-chained 1-octanol diluent. The extractant also performed very well in removing HSS from MDEA and AMP with the ease of HSS extraction increasing in the order of AMP < MEA < MDEA for which the oxalate was removed by nearly 100% regardless of the type of amine and concentration. In blended MEA, AMP and MDEA, the extractant had a higher chemical affinity in removing all HSS when compared with single MEA. The extractant could also remove major neutral degradation products found in MEA solution. High temperature and low CO<inf>2</inf> loading conditions were found to be favorable in maximizing the ability of the extractant to remove both product types. This finding revealed that the exact location where the amine slipstream should be taken for simultaneous extraction of all degradation products is at the exit point of the lean-rich amine heat exchanger. The regeneration of extractant using sodium hydroxide solution (NaOH) also indicated the reusability of the extractant as long as its reactive molecules remained. The results obtained from this study are being used for further development of the extraction process that can be used as a permanent replacement for conventional reclaiming techniques. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Energy efficiency and environmental impact analysis in grocery store market in Canada(2018-01-01)There is growing pressure to limit Global Warming Potential (GWP) as it is the most significant way to reduce serious threats to people. The increase of average temperature in the atmosphere causes adverse effects on the environment, and this is changing the way business operates. Together with undergoing changes to be more environmentally friendly, the majority of business sectors has been launching many projects to reduce environmental impacts. Similar to grocery sector in Canada, many companies have been reported to investigate the environmental performance. Loblaw Companies Limited, the largest food distributors in Canada, has put more concerns on environmental impacts and worked diligently to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through actions such as improving energy efficiency reducing refrigerant leaks, and incorporating renewable energy sources. This study analyzed Loblaw's energy efficiency and environmental performance and provided suggestions in the applications of skylight improvement, geothermal, refrigeration systems, kinetic energy to electricity, and e-grocery shopping. The results showed that the environmental concerns were substantially decreased. However, types of lights and refrigerators, distance driven, vehicle types, fuel used in e-grocery shopping results in the different amount of emissions; consequently, the GHG emissions varied depending on these factors. By integrating more environmentally technology, Loblaw could further reduce their emissions and waste and become a more sustainable company.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Accuracy of distributed systems towards industry 4.0: Smart grids and urban drainage systems case studies(2018-01-01); With significantly improving the overall manufacturing operations commonly known in smart factory practices, vertical and horizontal integrations of various components are introduced throughout the entire value chain. The proliferation of smart factory practices introduces the fourth industrial revolution called Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 creates new challenges and the application of networked manufacturing systems is one of the important features required to handle the systems in an efficient way by communicating and processing information to each other. Distributed systems provide coordination to allow the global information to be available for a better decision making and consequently achieving high efficiency. This connectivity helps for a better decision making and therefore achieve high efficiency. However, the evaluation on the accuracy of global information between different architectures of distributed systems (centralized systems and decentralized systems) has little work mentioning in the state of current manufacturing systems under the conception of Industry 4.0. As a result, this research will fill the gap by providing an accuracy of the decentralized system over the centralized system together with their sensitivity analysis. In this study, the decentralized system is built based on the concept of Epidemic protocols or Gossip-based protocols, while the centralized system is a simple client-server. The epidemic protocol is a bio-inspired communication paradigm that imitates the behavior of virus when the outbreak occurs in a community. The accuracy in both systems has been monitored by means of simulations. The effects of message loss to the accuracy of centralized and decentralized systems are studied. By comparing the system accuracy between both systems, it was found that the accuracy of the decentralized system is generally more accurate when the system is used for a long period. The accuracy tends to be lower down especially when the information is not completely distributed, while the accuracy of the centralized system receives an excessive suffer from message loss.3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Contributions from the Drone Delivery System in Thailand to Environmental Pollution(2018-06-04)In recent years, the great development of science and technology together with social movements and commerce has shaped the design and use of commercial drones. This particular emerging technology has boosted the speed and ability of online shopping systems to provide customers ever faster delivery. In addition, Global Warming Potential (GMP) is the most serious impact to people and environment. Carbon dioxide (CO<inf>2</inf>) from transportation is one of the main contributors contributing to GHG emissions which result in higher number of GWP. Drones should have a reduced GWP impact and other environmental impacts in which these help reduce the number of delivery trucks or other transportation options traveling on roads. In addition, as road infrastructure challenges especially in rural areas, drone delivery systems are able to transport freight across remote supply chain. The use of drones appears to be an important approach because they are not only inexpensive and easily available but can also travel on individual direct routes. In this study by establishing a life cycle assessment (LCA) framework, all emissions from a drone delivery system in rural areas in Chiang Mai, Thailand will be evaluated. The results show that the drone's part production is the main contributor of all impact categories.2
