Item type:Publication, A Comparative Assessment of Life-Cycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Hypothetical Electric Airport Transportation Services in Thailand(2018-05-22)Global warming is an increase of average temperature in the atmosphere, which causes adverse effects on the environment. Carbon dioxide (CO<inf>2</inf>) from transportation sector is one of the main contributors of the overall greenhouse gases (GHG). To cope with this issue, electric car services are increasingly seen as popular alternative modes of green transportation especially for urban cities as it is more flexible, more environmentally-friendly, and less expensive than the use of conventional vehicles. The study analyses and compare the hypothetical electric car systems from airport transportation services. Center of Environmental Science of Leiden University (CML) 2001, the Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) method, is applied to convert life cycle inventory data into environmental impacts. The observed results showed that the electric shuttle bus had the highest impact in global warming potential (GWP) compared to other transportation types. Alternatively, this Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study that evaluated different transportations provided important information for decision makers on quantifying the differences between each scenario. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Energy efficiency and environmental impact analysis in grocery store market in Canada(2018-01-01)There is growing pressure to limit Global Warming Potential (GWP) as it is the most significant way to reduce serious threats to people. The increase of average temperature in the atmosphere causes adverse effects on the environment, and this is changing the way business operates. Together with undergoing changes to be more environmentally friendly, the majority of business sectors has been launching many projects to reduce environmental impacts. Similar to grocery sector in Canada, many companies have been reported to investigate the environmental performance. Loblaw Companies Limited, the largest food distributors in Canada, has put more concerns on environmental impacts and worked diligently to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through actions such as improving energy efficiency reducing refrigerant leaks, and incorporating renewable energy sources. This study analyzed Loblaw's energy efficiency and environmental performance and provided suggestions in the applications of skylight improvement, geothermal, refrigeration systems, kinetic energy to electricity, and e-grocery shopping. The results showed that the environmental concerns were substantially decreased. However, types of lights and refrigerators, distance driven, vehicle types, fuel used in e-grocery shopping results in the different amount of emissions; consequently, the GHG emissions varied depending on these factors. By integrating more environmentally technology, Loblaw could further reduce their emissions and waste and become a more sustainable company. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Resource Scheduling Problem in Distribution Center(2019-10-25) ;Hamontree, C. ;Prompakdee, S.Due to the rapid growth of the retail shop trend recently, the Distribution Center (DC) or warehouse had become to be a vital part in the supply chain in order to store goods from multiple suppliers and deliver to multiple retailers. Cross docking is a relatively the logistics technique used in the DC in order to move materials from inbound trailers to outbound trailers as quickly as possible. From the following problem, an ineffectual DC management leads to the resources utilization problem such as machine, forklift, industrial trucks, etc. The main objective of this research is to study and solve the scheduling problem of the usage of the forklift in the Cross docking of DC and to manage the inbound and outbound docks in order to minimize Tardiness jobs, and also to maximize the efficiency of machine utilization. This study has provided the scheduling, comparison from genetic algorithm and heuristic method. As the result came out we found that the forklift scheduling by the genetic algorithm method is given the better management result better than heuristic method. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Decentralized Network Building Change in Large Manufacturing Companies towards Industry 4.0(2017-01-01); ; In complex industrial ecosystems together with an increasing global competition, success depends on a complete value chain transformation. The use of Industry 4.0 standards is therefore gradually emerging in many industries to ensure significantly higher factory productivity, flexibility, and efficiency. However, selected methodology and results are required to be studied to fully understand the digital transformation as well as its characteristics. This research presents a system conversion study, from centralized to decentralized systems, using epidemic membership protocols on a large manufacturing company towards Industry 4.0. The system conversion shows that the epidemic membership protocols provide an ability to rewrite the structure of the overlay topology. The experimental results are presented in two categories: (1) convergence speed and (2) accuracy of the epidemic applications. These provide the information for the performance guarantee of the global aggregate computation. The expectation of this paper is to present a preliminary study focusing on the system conversion methodology in the context of Industry 4.0. There are several recent publications based on Industry 4.0; however, nothing has been done to address any methodologies applied in Industry 4.0 or their simulation results. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A Comparative of Life Cycle Assessment of a Conventional Van and a Battery Electric Van for an Online Shopping System in Thailand(2018-05-22); Hamontree, C.The transportation sector is responsible for one of the main emitters of large quantities of pollutions to the atmosphere, which impacts local, regional or global environment receptors. In Thailand, many retail chains have been trying to launch many campaigns and projects to reduce GHG emissions together with offering the best convenience services to serve customers' needs. By promoting an online shopping system for the workplace, this will mitigate even more of the air pollutants than the conventional online shopping system, where the products are delivered to customer's doorsteps. This study aims to investigate and compare the impact of different vehicle technologies for an online shopping using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology especially in the vehicle use phase. The observed results showed that the electric van has the potential of reducing emissions and consequently showed lower impacts in most impact categories. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Analysis of environmental impacts of drone delivery on an online shopping system(2018-09-01)In rural areas, drones are designed to replace road deliveries so as to overcome infrastructure challenges; though drones notably consume less fuel and consequently have a smaller impact on the environment, their full life cycle assessment should still be evaluated to comprehensively understand their environmental impact. This study presents a life cycle assessment study on drone delivery in Thailand using CML2001, the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) method, to convert life cycle inventory data into environmental impacts. The observed results show that an online shopping system using drone delivery is one of the most environmentally friendly transportation options throughout a wide range of scenarios. However, the parts production contributed to significant impacts on environmental issues while the drone operation showed the least impact to all impact categories. The dominant contributors to global warming, abiotic depletion (ADP elements and fossil), acidification air, eutrophication, ozone layer depletion, and photochemical ozone creation impact categories were the coal mining and electricity generating station operation. However, the carbon fibers and the battery, are the main contributors to other impact categories, which include the human toxicity, freshwater aquatic ecotoxicity, marine aquatic ecotoxicity, and terrestric ecotoxicity. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Epidemic System Conversion on Industry 4.0's Perspective under Dynamic Network Condition(2019-09-25); ; In large-scale manufacturing operations with increasing global competition, success depends on a reliable network system to complete a value chain transformation. The use of the Industry 4.0 paradigm is increasingly evolving in many areas of different industries to ensure significant increases in factory productivity, flexibility, and efficiency. Consequently, the system transformation requires a shift from single automated node to a fully integrated system. However, selected methodology and results require study to fully understand the digital transformation as well as its characteristics. This investigation presents a system conversion study, between centralized and decentralized systems, using the concept of epidemic membership protocols in the context of Industry 4.0. This paper proposes the method based on membership protocols focusing on the system conversion methodology under dynamic network condition. Item type:Publication, Accuracy of distributed systems towards industry 4.0: Smart grids and urban drainage systems case studies(2018-01-01); With significantly improving the overall manufacturing operations commonly known in smart factory practices, vertical and horizontal integrations of various components are introduced throughout the entire value chain. The proliferation of smart factory practices introduces the fourth industrial revolution called Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 creates new challenges and the application of networked manufacturing systems is one of the important features required to handle the systems in an efficient way by communicating and processing information to each other. Distributed systems provide coordination to allow the global information to be available for a better decision making and consequently achieving high efficiency. This connectivity helps for a better decision making and therefore achieve high efficiency. However, the evaluation on the accuracy of global information between different architectures of distributed systems (centralized systems and decentralized systems) has little work mentioning in the state of current manufacturing systems under the conception of Industry 4.0. As a result, this research will fill the gap by providing an accuracy of the decentralized system over the centralized system together with their sensitivity analysis. In this study, the decentralized system is built based on the concept of Epidemic protocols or Gossip-based protocols, while the centralized system is a simple client-server. The epidemic protocol is a bio-inspired communication paradigm that imitates the behavior of virus when the outbreak occurs in a community. The accuracy in both systems has been monitored by means of simulations. The effects of message loss to the accuracy of centralized and decentralized systems are studied. By comparing the system accuracy between both systems, it was found that the accuracy of the decentralized system is generally more accurate when the system is used for a long period. The accuracy tends to be lower down especially when the information is not completely distributed, while the accuracy of the centralized system receives an excessive suffer from message loss. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Applying epidemic algorithm for financial service based on blockchain technology(2018-08-13); ; ; Chatwiriya, WatcharaOur global market is emerging transformation strategy that can make the difference between success and failure. Smart contract systems through developments of technological innovations are increasingly seen as alternative technologies to impact transactional processes significantly. Blockchain is a smart contract protocol with trust offering the potential for creating new transaction platforms and thus shows a radical change of the current core value creation in third parties. These results in enormous cost and time savings and the reduced risk for the parties. This study proposed a method to improve the efficiency of distributed consensus in blockchains using epidemic algorithm. The results showed that epidemic protocols can distribute the information similar to blockchain.
