Item type:Publication, Optimized plastic injection molding pr ocess and minimized the warpage and volume shrinkage by response surface methodology with genetic algorithm and firefly algorithm techniques(2017-06-01) ;Sudsawat, SupattarachaiThis goal of this paper is an optimization approach to generate suitable process setting of multi responses of the minimization of warpage and volume shrinkage in the plastic injection molding (PIM). Central composite design (CCD) was employed to handle the orthogonal array for experimental test runs and using the response surface methodology (RSM) to construct response surface equation model. Then the optimization methods of firefly algorithm (FA) that have never been applied to minimize warpage and volume shrinkage in the plastic injection molding (PIM) and genetic algorithm (GA) were employed to optimal parameter conditions with fitness function generated from RSM. Simulation software Moldex 3D and plastic injection machine were used as the experimental tests to show the comparison of the optimal performance of both metaheuristic algorithms. The results showed that the firefly algorithm created the suitable process parameters to meet the minimization of warpage and volume shrinkage better than the popular genetic algorithm for this study. It can be concluded that FA is very proper to approach the good performance in PIM. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Hybrid Natural Fiber Composites of Polylactic Acid Reinforced with Sisal and Coir Fibers(2025-01-01); Praemettha, AriyaThis study explored the tensile and impact strength of polylactic acid (PLA) through the incorporation of sisal and coir fibers. Hybrid natural fiber composites were prepared using PLA as the matrix and sisal and coir fibers as the reinforcements. The hybrid composites were prepared with an internal mixer, followed by compression molding. A constrained mixture design was employed to determine the optimal material combinations and their effects on the tensile and impact strength. Confirmatory experiments based on response surface methodology revealed no significant differences in the data means at the 0.05 significance level. PLA reinforced with sisal fibers alone exhibited the highest tensile strength of 75.36 MPa but demonstrated a low impact resistance of 12.94 kJ/m2 at a 95.22:4.78 (PLA:sisal by volume) ratio. Conversely, the maximum impact resistance of 36.71 kJ/m2 was achieved with PLA and coir at the same ratio. An optimal blend, consisting of 95.22% PLA, 0.78% sisal, and 4.0% coir by volume, resulted in a tensile strength of 51.08 MPa and an impact strength of 26.59 kJ/m2, outperforming other mixtures and pure PLA in the mechanical properties. Additionally, water absorption tests showed that reinforcement with sisal and coir fibers increased both water absorption and stability over 60 h. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The simulation of volume shrinkage for double-injection molding with PC and ABS(2018-08-14) ;Leklong, PichaiThe objective of this paper was to study and analyze the plastic injection molding parameters to reduce the volume shrinkage of double injection molded part. The specimen was molded with Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) after Polycarbonate was molded as a half part. The weld line occurred at the haft of the molded part. The simulation with Moldex 3D R13 and the design of experiment with Taguchi method was used to perform the experiments and analyze the data to get the optimum of volume shrinkage. The results showed that melt temperature and packing pressure was significant to the volume shrinkage. When using low melt temperature and high packing pressure, the shrinkage was low and related to the thermal expansion of the material. It would be one of the parameters to the design of double injection molding. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Optimization of Salt-Leaching Parameters for Gelatin/Na2Ti3O7 Scaffolds Using a Mixture Design Experiment(2022-02-01) ;Sangkatip, Rittichai; ; Jongwuttanaruk, KaonaThe purpose of this research was to learn the formation of biomedical scaffold material from gelatin by using titanate (Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf>), which is a newly synthesized derivative of titanium dioxide (TiO<inf>2</inf> ) with gelatin. It was prepared by mixed several solutions and cross-linked molecules by heating and salt-leaching. The biomedical scaffold was formed, and its porosity depended on the size of the salt crystal. The mixture was designed by using a mixture design with three factors: gelatin, titanate, and deionized water to determine the optimal mixture for the tensile strength of the biomedical scaffold. The microstructure of the biomedical scaffold was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The findings revealed that Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf> thoroughly pen-extracted the biomedical scaffold, and the tensile strength of the gelatin/titanate scaffold was higher than the biomedical scaffold, which was formed using pure gelatin. By using the mixture design technique, the 14.73% gelatin, 0.2% Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf>, and 85.07% DI water got the highest yield of tensile strength (1508.15 kP). This was an about 4.88% increase in the tensile strength property when compared with using TiO<inf>2</inf> . - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Gelatin/Na2Ti3O7 Nanocomposite Scaffolds: Mechanical Properties and Characterization for Tissue Engineering Applications(2023-05-01) ;Sangkatip, Rittichai ;Jongwuttanaruk, KaonaMaterials and manufacturing technologies are necessary for tissue engineering and developing temporary artificial extracellular matrices. In this study, scaffolds were fabricated from freshly synthesized titanate (Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf>) and its precursor titanium dioxide and their properties were investigated. The scaffolds with improved properties were then mixed with gelatin to form a scaffold material using the freeze-drying technique. To determine the optimal composition for the compression test of the nanocomposite scaffold, a mixture design with three factors of gelatin, titanate, and deionized water was used. Then, the scaffold microstructures were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to determine the porosity of the nanocomposite scaffolds. The scaffolds were fabricated as a nanocomposite and determined their compressive modulus values. The results showed that the porosity of the gelatin/Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf> nanocomposite scaffolds ranged from 67% to 85%. When the mixing ratio was 100:0, the degree of swelling was 22.98%. The highest swelling ratio of 85.43% was obtained when the freeze-drying technique was applied to the mixture of gelatin and Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf> with a mixing ratio of 80:20. The specimens formed (gelatin:titanate = 80:20) exhibited a compressive modulus of 30.57 kPa. The sample with a composition of 15.10% gelatin, 2% Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf>, and 82.9% DI water, processed by the mixture design technique, showed the highest yield of 30.57 kPa in the compression test. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Preparation and characterization of the Na2Ti3O7: ABS/Na2Ti3O7 composites(2017-01-01) ;Sangkatip, Rittichai; Titanate Ribbon (Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf>) used in ABS plastic was synthesized to study the mechanical properties and to conduct test on the E-coli bacteria inhibition performance. The polymer blends of ABS/Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf> by Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf>, was synthesized through alkaline hydrothermal reaction with 0.5 grams of titanium dioxide as a precursor with 20 ml. of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) at the concentration of 10 molar under the alkalinity at 200°c for 24 hours. The study on the microstructure by scanning electron microscope revealed that the Layered structure was shaped as a complete ribbon. The mechanical testing activities on the E-coli bacteria inhibition polymer mixed ABS/Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf>; it was found that the mechanical properties for ABS/Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf>, The results showed that tensile modulus and tensile strength of blending Na<inf>2</inf>Ti<inf>3</inf>O<inf>7</inf> at 0.5 %wt was the highest. The result showed that E.coli could reduce up to 66.01%. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Warpage reduction through optimized process parameters and annealed process of injection-molded plastic parts(2018-10-01) ;Sudsawat, SupattarachaiThe objective of this paper is to achieve the minimization of warpage for an injection molded part. The techniques that were implemented to minimize the warpage are the design of experiment (DOE), response surface methodology (RSM), firefly algorithm (FA), and annealing treatment. The packing time, cooling time, and melt temperature were shown to be significant parameters and FA was employed to seek these suitable values by experimental tests based on simulation software Moldex3D and injection machine. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to validate experiments. Annealing treatment process was then applied to reduce more warpage phenomenon; the results showed that warpage phenomenon decreased dramatically compared with popular optimized parameter methodology. Moreover, the residual stress which was obtained by using photoelasticity showed that it has a direct relationship with warpage reduction. Therefore, the best solution of warpage mitigation can be solved by popular optimum process parameters and also annealing treatment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Robust design of PC/ABS filled with nano carbon black for electromagnetic shielding effectiveness and surface resistivity(2020-05-01); ;Tippayakraisorn, ArsarinLim, Jun WeiThis study focuses on the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE), dissipation of electrostatic discharge (ESD), and surface resistivity of polymer blends between polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) filled with carbon black powder (CBp) and carbon black masterbatch (CBm). The mixtures of PC/ABS/CB composites were prepared by the injection molding for the 4-mm thickness of the specimen. The D-optimal mixture design was applied in this experiment. The EMI SE was measured at the frequency of 800 and 900 MHz with a network analyzer, MIL-STD-285. The result showed that the EMI SE was increased when the amount of filler increased. The surface resistivity of the composites was determined according to the ASTM D257. It was found that the surface resistivity of the plastic with no additives was 1012 Ω/square. When the amount of fillers was added, the surface resistivity of plastic composites decreased to the range of 106-1011 Ω/square, which was suitable for the application without the electrostatic discharge. The optimization of multi-response showed using high amounts of PC and CB was the best mixture of this research. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, An application of the design of experiment for purging of injection molding machine and hot runner mold(2013-01-01)This research was proposed on the experimental study on purging of an injection molding machine's barrel and hot runner mold. The Taguchi method was used to design the experiment with two level of shot size, melt temperature, injection speed, screw speed, injection pressure, back pressure and suck back position and two level of temperature at hot runner mold. Those factors were controllable factors while mixing with recycle material and moisture content of material were uncontrollable factors. The ABS resin was used to perform the experiment. It was mixed with 5% (by weight) of mica particles and acted as particle tracer and used for the first shot. Then, the barrel and hot runner mold were purged with virgin ABS. The results showed that shot size, melt temperature, screw speed and injection speed were main factors which significant for purging and the mixing recycle material effect to purging more than the moisture content in material. However the suck back position should be used during purging. The temperature of hot runner mold should be set at normal injection condition.
