Item type:Publication, Preparation, characterization and photocatalytic properties of rubber-TiO2-rGO composite sheets for dye decomposition in wastewater(2017-01-01) ;Tejangkura, Worapol; In this work, rubber-TiO<inf>2</inf>-rGO (RT-rGO) composite sheets were successfully prepared by a simple latex mixing-casting method using TiO<inf>2</inf> and natural rubber latex with different amounts of rGO loading. The prepared RT-rGO sheet samples were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, Raman, SEM and EDS techniques. The photocatalytic properties of the prepared RT-rGO sheets as catalyst were evaluated using methylene blue (MB) dye solution under UV light irradiation. The result indicated that all the composite sheets loaded with rGO had better photocatalytic activities than the sheet without rGO loading. RT-rGO6.2% sheet showed the highest removal efficiency of 93.3% which has the rate constant (kapp) as 98.2 times higher than the unloaded sheet. Furthermore, the efficiency of the RT-rGO sheet upon the repeated usage was also studied. The result indicated that the sheet could be easily used, recovered and reused many times with no need for the cleaning in between successive uses. Thus, the RT-rGO sheet appears to be an attractive-material for the wastewater treatment or the water purification industry. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Curcumin-sensitized TiO2for enhanced photodegradation of dyes under visible light(2014-01-01) ;Buddee, Supat ;Wongnawa, Sumpun ;Sriprang, PimpapornCurcumin was coated on P25 TiO<inf>2</inf> by using impregnation method from freshly prepared curcumin solution. The resulting products (Cur-TiO <inf>2</inf>-P25) was studied by several techniques such as X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy, specific surface area by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method, and UV-Vis diffused reflectance spectroscopy. Experimental results revealed that impregnation of curcumin at 0.5, 3, 5, and 7 wt% did not affect the native phase of anatase and rutile in P25 significantly, however, it caused red shift of absorption onset in all curcumin-coated samples. The Cur-TiO<inf>2</inf>-P25 showed enhanced adsorption efficiency and increased photocatalytic activity under visible light with optimal result at 5 wt% curcumin content. Commercial anatase and rutile coated with curcumin (Cur-TiO<inf>2</inf>-an and Cur-TiO<inf>2</inf>-ru) were also prepared by the same method for the use in comparative studies of photodegradation of dyes. Cur-TiO<inf>2</inf>-an and Cur-TiO<inf>2</inf>-ru were also characterized with some selected equipment above but not as extensively as the Cur-TiO <inf>2</inf>-P25. Curcumin coating helped improve photocatalytic efficiencies of P25 and anatase but not for rutile. The mechanism of photocatalytic reaction was proposed that under visible light irradiation, curcumin molecule could act as dye sensitizing agent that injected electron into the conduction band of TiO<inf>2</inf> leading to photodegradation of dyes. © Springer Science+Business Media 2014. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, High photocatalytic performance of 3D porous-structured TiO2@natural rubber hybrid sheet on the removal of indigo carmine dye in water(2019-08-01); ; Sriwong, SukanpiromDue to the high efficiency of photocatalytic process for the environmental treatments, titanium dioxide (TiO<inf>2</inf>) is a popular used as photocatalyst material. However, the practical uses of TiO<inf>2</inf> in powder form have some drawbacks as well as the difficult reusability. In this work, 3D porous-structured TiO<inf>2</inf>@natural rubber (TNR) hybrid sheets with high photocatalytic performance were presented. TNR hybrid sheets prepared by a facile and low-cost method, which is based on the mixing of natural rubber (NR) latex (60% high ammonia) and ammoniacal TiO<inf>2</inf> (P25) suspension, followed by vacuum filtration through a sintered glass template to make a 3D porous network structure on the surface of the sheets. The obtained TNR sheet samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and reflection Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques. The results showed that the surface morphologies of TNR hybrid sheets appeared as porous-structured which had high roughness and with various tiny pores on the surface. The photocatalytic properties of the prepared TNR hybrid sheets were tested using indigo carmine (IC) dye under UV light irradiation. It was found that the highest photodegradation efficiency was achieved with the TNR_5 wt% hybrid sheet sample. Compared with the sheets reported in previous works, the TNR sheet shows higher efficiencies than those sheets due to its higher amount of TiO<inf>2</inf> particles at the surface, more porous structure with high rough surface, and abundance of tiny pores on the TNR sheet surface. Moreover, the recyclability and stability of TNR sheet indicated that upon using 10 cycles (remains 98% efficiency), in which the stability of the sheet surface well-confirmed by SEM and XRD techniques, as well. From above the study, this 3D porous-structured TNR hybrid sheet could be a new alternative strategy for the water or wastewater treatment in industry concerning with the easy use, recovery, reusability and stability of the photocatalysts. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Preparation, characterization, and supercapasitive properties of CoO-NiO microflowers incorporated with graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide hybrid materials(2018-01-01) ;Saei, Worawee; This research investigated the preparation, characterization and supercapacitive properties of cobalt oxide-nickel oxide (CoO-NiO) microflowers incorporated with graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanosheets. These hybrid materials were easily prepared through a direct mixing of CoO-NiO powder suspended in acidic solution with the appropriate amount of GO and RGO loading to make CoO-NiO/GO and CoO-NiO/RGO hybrid samples, respectively. Then, the obtained hybrid samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) techniques. The results demonstrated that the crystalline phases and functional groups of all hybrid samples are corresponding to pristine CoO-NiO and RGO. SEM results showed that the CoO-NiO microflowers were impregnated and well-combined with both GO and rGO nanosheets. Moreover, the supercapacitive behavior of pristine CoO-NiO and all hybrid samples were studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. The results revealed that all hybrid samples exhibited much higher the current density than those of the bare CoO-NiO. Thus, this research indicates that the supercapacitive properties of CoO-NiO incorporated with both GO and RGO hybrid materials are superior to the pure CoO-NiO microflowers. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Mechanical, dielectric, thermal and antibacterial properties of reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-nanosized C3AH6 cement nanocomposites for smart cement-based materials(2019-10-15); ; This work aimed to fabricate nanocomposites of reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-nanosized C3AH6 cement via a rapid cement hydration for enhancing its micro-hardness, dielectric constant, thermal conductivity, electrochemical and antibacterial properties.rGO-nanosized C3AH6 nanocomposites (∼10–20 nm in diameter) with 1, 2, 3, and 4% weight of rGO, were successfully synthesized from a Ca12Al14O33 and rGO colloid that was rapidly heated with water to a temperature of 100 °C. Nanocomposites of x%rGO-C3AH6 (x = 1, 2, 3, and 4) were characterized using XRD, UV–vis spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and TGA techniques. The chemical composition was confirmed using SEM and EDX characterization. The results revealed a nanocomposited rGO-C3AH6 material with nanosheet and nanoflaked rGO, as well as nanosized C3AH6 particles. The results presented rGO-C3AH6 with high performance multifunctional properties that included enhanced mechanical, dielectric, and thermal properties. The vickers micro-hardness and dielectric constant were enhanced by the effect of rGO-C3AH6 nanocomposites. The thermal conductivity of rGO-C3AH6 was higher than that of C3AH6. The electrical conductivity and electrochemical properties were effectively increased with greater levels of rGO in the material. Its antibacterial activity was confirmed by the formation of clearing zones on a Petri plate seeded with Escherichia coli (E. coli). The diameter of these zones increased with the rGO content. These results confirmed that nanocomposited rGO-C3AH6 was effective in enhancing mechanical, dielectric and thermal properties while serving as a high performance multifunctional cement-based material. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A sensitive and selective colorimetric sensor for reduced glutathione detection based on silver triangular nanoplates conjugated with gallic acid(2018-03-20); ; Silver triangular nanoplates conjugated with gallic acid (AgTNPs⋅GA) was designed and synthesized for colorimetric detection of reduced glutathione (GSH). The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) properties of AgTNPs⋅GA were strongly influenced by the addition of GSH. The detection principle was based on the aggregation of AgTNPs⋅GA, which leads to the significant bathochromic shift of the SPR spectra from 602 nm to 650 nm. The dramatic color changes from the initial dark blue to light blue can be observed, which allowed simple monitoring of GSH ether by naked eye and UV–vis spectrophotometer. With UV–vis spectrophotometer measurements, a quantitative linearity was established in the range of 0.5–5.0 nM (R2 = 0.9919) and with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.12 ± 0.02 nM. Relative standard deviation (RSD) of 3.46% and 1.82% (n = 10) were achieved for the determination of 1.0 and 3.0 nM, respectively. No interfering substances such as ascorbic acid, glucose, sucrose, citric acid, cysteine, Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe3+ and K+ were revealed in the AgTNPs⋅GA based assay. The proposed colorimetric strategy could be extended as the general platform for detection of GSH in dietary supplements and no significant differences in accuracy and precision were observed compared to HPLC standard method. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effect of synthesized Ag nanoparticles by using the different amounts of polyvinylpyrrolidone for Ag-natural rubber hybrid sheets and their antibacterial properties(2017-01-01) ;Prasanseang, Warot; Ag-natural rubber (Ag-NR) hybrid sheets were successfully prepared with a very simple and low cost method. In this method, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were firstly synthesized by a rapid and green microwave-assisted using polyvinylpyrroridone (PVP) media. The effect of PVP weight ratios towards the size of AgNPs was also investigated. Then, Ag-NR hybrid sheet samples were prepared by latex mixing-casting method using concentrated natural rubber (NR) latex with the synthesized AgNPs colloids. The characteristic absorption, particles sizes and shapes of the obtained AgNPs were examined through UV-vis, TEM and SAED. Also, the prepared Ag-NR sheet samples were characterized using XRD, FT-IR, SEM and EDS techniques. It was found that the particles sizes of all the synthesized AgNPs had spherical-like shape, and the mean sizes were increased from 29.7 to 90.4 nm upon increasing PVP contents. EDS results showed the AgNPs were well-dispersed and impregnated into the rubber matrix. Moreover, the antibacterial properties of the prepared Ag-NR sheets were tested by agar disk-diffusion method with Gram-positive and Gramnegative bacteria as Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli), respectively. The results showed that the hybrid sheets exhibited excellent antibacterial properties against these bacteria, in which the zones of inhibition were also dependent on the synthesized AgNPs by utilizing the different amounts of PVP. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Optical and dielectric properties of nano-sized tricalcium aluminate hexahydrate (C3AH6) cement(2018-08-10); ; ;Maensiri, Santi ;Chindaprasirt, PrinyaThe present study investigates the optical and dielectric properties of nano-sized C3AH6 cement hydrates. A cement product was fabricated via a simple hydration process using a derivative of a C12A7 cement precursor reacting with de-ionized water while raising the reaction temperature to 100 °C. A crystalline phase of the C3AH6 cement product was characterized and confirmed using an XRD technique. Its morphology was also evaluated using TEM and SEM techniques. It was found that nano-sized C3AH6 (in size 10–50 nm) was successfully derived via this process. This cement product was thermodynamically stable over the range of room temperature to 300 °C. The optical direct gap was 4.1 eV and the indirect energy gap was 2.45 eV. Over the range of 20 Hz to 2 MHz, the observed capacitance was 10−10 F–10−11 F and the dielectric constant varied from 20 to 150. The dielectric properties were enhanced over those of general cement compounds. This effect was due to its complex structure in which –O–H bonding appeared in the structure and the formation of nano-sized structures from this process. These results suggested that the nano-C3AH6 hydrated particles were transparent to visible light and exhibited a high frequency electrical response. This implies an important role for these cement-based materials as potential candidates having optical and dielectric properties appropriate for applications such as smart building materials in the form of transparent electrode windows, smart wall capacitors, triboelectric devices and supercapacitors. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effect of free oxygen radical anions and free electrons in a Ca12Al14O33 cement structure on its optical, electronic and antibacterial properties(2019-05-01); ; ;Srepusharawoot, Pornjuk ;Maensiri, SantiChindaprasirt, PrinyaThe aim of this work was to investigate the effect of free oxygen radicals and free electrons in a Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf> (C12A7) cement structure on the optical, electronic and antibacterial activity of this material. Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf> was successfully fabricated via rapid heating to high temperatures by high frequency electromagnetic induction. Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf> cement samples were characterized using XRD and UV-Vis-DRS spectroscopy. The morphology and chemical composition of the samples were also investigated using SEM and EDS techniques. The presence of free oxygen radicals (O<inf>2</inf> −ions) in the insulating structure of Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf> was confirmed using Raman spectroscopy showing a spectrum peak at 1067 cm−1. The excitation of free electrons in the Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf> cement was indicated by UV-Vis absorption spectra at 2.8 eV and an optical energy gap of 3.5 eV, which is consistent with the first-principles calculations for the band energy level. The effects of free oxygen radicals and free electrons in the Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf> structure as antibacterial agents against Escherichia Coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus Aureus (S. aureus) were investigated using an agar disk-diffusion method. The presence of O<inf>2</inf> − anions as a reactive oxygen species (ROS) at the surface of Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf> caused inhibition of E. coli and S. aureus cells. The free electrons in the conducting C12A7 reacted with O<inf>2</inf> gas to produce ROS, specifically super oxides (O<inf>2</inf> −), superoxide radicals (O<inf>2</inf> •-), hydroxyl radicals (OH•) and hydrogen peroxide (H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>), which exhibited antibacterial properties. Both mechanisms were active against bacteria without effects from nano-particle sized materials and photocatalytic activity. The experimental results showed that the production of ROS from free electrons was greater than that of the free O<inf>2</inf> − anions in the structure of Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf>. The antibacterial actions for insulating and conducting Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf> were different for E. coli and S. aureus. Thus, Ca<inf>12</inf>Al<inf>14</inf>O<inf>33</inf> cement has antibacterial properties that do not require the presence of nano-particle sizes materials or photocatalysis. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, AC/TiO2/rubber composite sheet catalysts; fabrication, characterization and photocatalytic activities(2015-11-04); Tejangkura, WorapolThe AC/TiO<inf>2</inf>/Rubber (ACTR) composite sheets weresuccessfully fabricated by a simply mixing of fixed TiO<inf>2</inf> suspension and natural rubber latex (60% HA) contents withthe varyingamounts of activated carbon (AC) suspension, followed by stirring, pouring into apetri dish mold, drying at room temperature (RT),after that taking out from a mold, reversing and drying again at RT. Then, the as-fabricated ACTR composite sheets were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), attenuated total reflectionFourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)techniques. The photocatalytic efficiencies of allACTR composite sheet sampleswere evaluated by photodegrading of methylene blue (MB) dye solution under UV light irradiation. The results showed that the photocatalytic activity of ACTR sheet with10.0wt%AC loadinghas the highest efficiency for the photodegradation of MB dye than the other sheets. This is due to the fact that it is relatively with the synergistic effect of well-combined titanium dioxide catalyst and activated carbon adsorbent.
