Cubical-Shaped DR-Based Wideband Circularly Polarized Antenna with Vertically-Curved Metallic Wall

Abstract

This paper presents a cubical-shaped dielectric resonator (DR) wideband circularly polarized (CP) antenna designed for C-band wireless networks. The proposed CP DR antenna incorporates a single substrate layer, a cubical-shaped DR, and a vertically-curved metallic wall. The substrate comprises a dual-sided structure, with the lower side featuring a microstrip feed line and the upper side hosting a cross-shaped slot ground plane. The TE<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">111</inf> mode is used to realize the circular polarization of the cubical-shaped DR antenna. Simulation results at 4.5 GHz (center frequency) achieved a reflection coefficient of 28.88% (between 3.91 - 5.21 GHz) and an axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 22.22% (between 4 - 5 GHz). The proposed cubical-shaped DR CP antenna achieves a maximum right-hand circularly polarized gain of 5.75 dBic at 4.4 GHz, functioning to C-band spectrum applications.
