Abstract

In Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET), many routing protocols have been proposed to find the route from source node to the destination node. However, the process for discovering the route may increase the routing overhead. In this paper, we improve our previous scheme to reduces routing overhead with adaptive request zone which is called Adaptive Request Zone for Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (ARZAODV). In ARZAODV, we consider that the request zone may not be fixed but it can be chosen adaptively depending on the variation of distance between source node and destination node because those nodes may change the position. We evaluate the performance of ARZAODV by means of the simulation using NS-2. The performance metrics are packet delivery fraction and routing overhead. Our simulation results are compared with our previous scheme called Modified Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance (MAODV) and the traditional Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV). The results show that ARZAODV can provide not only reducing the routing overhead and also increasing the packet delivery fraction comparing with MAODV and AODV. © 2011 IEEE.
