Abstract

The development of wind turbine technologies has made a significant contribution to electrical energy generation from renewable sources. Wind power generation has been rapidly prospering in electric supply industry around the world during the last two decades because it is clean and environmentally friendly. One of the main causes of damages for wind turbine is lightning. Lightning strokes are unavoidable on large wind turbines. Most of the lightning strokes on the rotor blades hit the area of the blade tip, resulting in considerable damage. Lightning damages effect in high costs of maintenance, so lightning protection systems must be a standard feature of wind turbine. In this paper, we have analyzed the impact of wind turbine component from induced currents of lightning.
