    Single Commercially Available Integrated Circuit-based Sinusoidal Oscillators with Amplitude Adjustability and Electronic Control of Condition

    This paper presents four new sinusoidal oscillators using a commercially available integrated circuit (IC). The proposed circuits are simple topologies that employ a single commercial IC, LT1228. It is connected to passive element, consisting of four resistors and two capacitors. All derived oscillator circuits have low output impedance, allowing them to connect to other circuits without requiring an additional buffer. Using an active LT1228 device enables electronic adjustment of parameters in the proposed circuits. A feedback resistor can be used to change the output signal's amplitude without affecting the oscillation's frequency or condition. We performed both simulations using the PSPICE program and experiments to confirm the accuracy of all proposed oscillator circuits. The best total harmonic distortion was 0.13% for the proposed oscillator circuit 3. Adjusting the maximum amplitude using a resistor provides a gain of roughly 1.5–16.5 dB for the proposed oscillator circuit no. 1.

    Future global visions of engineering education

    This article presents the future global visions of engineering education. Due to the socio-technological challenges, engineering education must anticipate and adapt to dramatic changes in terms of engineering practice and instruction. In the future, the roles of engineers must change along with the following aspects: the globalization of industry and engineering practice, the shift of engineering employment from large companies to small and medium-sized companies, the growing emphasis on entrepreneurialism, the growing share of engineering employment in nontraditional, less-technical engineering work, the shift to a knowledge-based "services" economy, and increasing opportunity for using technology in the education and work of the engineering. This study found that successful attributes for the engineering education graduates in 2020 must be at strong level. They are as follows: lifelong learners, ability to frame problems, putting them in a socio-technical and operational context, dynamic/agile/resilient/flexible, high ethical standards and a strong sense of professionalism, good communication skills with multiple stakeholders, possess strong analytical skills, exhibit practical ingenuity; posses creativity, and business and management skills; leadership abilities. Moreover, the study found that the problems which engineering education graduates in 2020 encounter and have strong ability to solve. They are as follows: maintaining technical currency & life long learning, environmental and energy related problems, managing globalization, problems related to population growth, ultra-nanoscale, miniaturization, and bioengineering and medical problems.

    Sustainability awareness, attitudes and actions: A survey of pre-service teachers

    The purpose of this study was to survey the awareness, attitudes and actions of Thai, pre-service, industrial-education teachers (N=390) regarding economic, social and environmental sustainability. Survey items were derived from learning objectives provided by UNESCO in relation to 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). Research questions focused on overall results as well as analyses to determine differences based on program type and year of study. Results showed an average overall higher percentage in the categories of attitudes (90%) and action (91%) than for awareness (69%). The lowest ranked items in the categories of attitudes and action were related to SDG 5, gender equality. Pre-service teachers in year two of their program reported significantly higher levels of awareness than those in their first, third, fourth or fifth year. There were no significant differences for program type. Implications point to the value for higher education institutes, programs and instructors of identifying sustainability issues most relevant to their context in terms of culture and subject area. Results also pointed to the possibility that higher education institutions may be able to address aspects of sustainability through other initiatives (e.g., mental health awareness days) that are not necessarily branded specifically as sustainability issues.

    Competence development in the electronics industry in Thailand

    Competence development is integral to human resource development. However, the lack of attention to competence standards in some countries combined with the need for skilled workers presents significant challenges for industry. The electronics industry in Thailand represents a case in point. A study of competence development in this country was conducted in order to: identify current practices related to competence development; and determine how companies provide competence development for their employees. The study included a survey of electronics industry managers at 60 companies in Bangkok and suburban areas as well as semi structured interviews and observations in five companies. Results revealed that the most commonly stated reason for respondents not working with competence development was that their organisation was not familiar with the concept (86 per cent). Only half the companies surveyed used competence instruments. Most respondents did not recognise the importance of integrating cultural differences. In terms of implications for human resource management in the companies surveyed, competency development will need to become more of a priority as will integration of intercultural competence.

    Engineering educators’ perspectives on the feasibility of fostering sustainability through the internet of things

    The purpose of this study was to identify the feasibility of integrating the internet of things (IoT) in engineering education (EE) to promote environmental, social and economic sustainability. This purpose is explored through self-report surveys with 113 engineering educators in Thailand. Analysis relied on descriptive statistics and two-way ANOVA. Results revealed high feasibility of integration with less feasibility for social sustainability. There were no significant differences in relation to feasibility and demographic factors such as educators’ years of experience and type of EE. Respondents identified factors that can promote the integration. These were grouped into the following categories: curricula and programs, instructor and student-related factors, administrative and policy factors and technology-related factors.

    Evaluating the Impact of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy on Sustainable Innovation: A Data-Driven Analysis

    This study investigates the factors affecting sustainable innovation within Thailand's Provincial Electricity Authority, a nonprofit organization committed to sustainable energy solutions. With a focus on the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy as a developmental framework, the study examines how SEP principles of moderation, prudence, and resilience contribute to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The research adopts a quantitative approach to analyze how SEP influences SI in PEA's operations alongside internal and external factors like disruptive leadership, digital transformation, and national sustainability initiatives. Through a series of correlation and regression analyses, the study identifies SEP as a critical component in fostering SI, with values of virtue, risk management, and informed decision-making emerging as influential elements. The findings indicate that integrating SEP's balanced approach to production and consumption facilitates organizational resilience, enabling the PEA to navigate internal and external shocks effectively. Furthermore, the results underscore the necessity of a holistic framework where internal initiatives align with broader cultural and ecological goals. The study highlights SEP's applicability beyond the energy sector, as seen in sustainable efforts in regions like Krabi and Koh Samui, which exemplify SEP-driven approaches toward low-carbon transitions. By leveraging SEP’s sufficiency principles, organizations can strengthen sustainable practices contributing to Thailand's environmental and social well-being. The research calls for further exploration into SEP’s role across sectors, positing that SEP could be a foundational pillar alongside economic, social, and environmental dimensions to drive sustainable innovation across diverse contexts.

    The Impacts of Internal and External Factors on Developing Global Digital Innovation: A Case Study of the Provincial Electricity Authority in Thailand

    The study aimed to investigate the impacts of internal and external factors on developing global digital innovation by means of a case study of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Thailand. The research framework was based on the concepts of disruptive leadership, Thailand 4.0, Industry 4.0, PEA Digital Utility or Electric Utility of the Future, ICT/Digital Innovation, and Sufficiency Economy Principles (SEP). The research sample group comprised 419 PEA employees randomly selected from throughout the country. The research tools consisted of structured questionnaires on content and technical quality validated by five qualified experts. Assumptions of multiple regression analysis- normality, linearity, no multicollinearity, independence, and homoscedasticity were examined. The data verifying the assumptions were analyzed by multiple regression and PEA Digital Utility, Industry 4.0, ICT/Digital Innovation, Disruptive Leadership, and Thailand 4.0 were estimated for the development of global digital innovation. It was also found that most PEA employees, or 51.55 percent, refer to the innovation they know of as PEA Smart Plus. This is because PEA will focus on the use of communication technology to improve efficiency in the distribution system which is the foundation for further development of other parts of the system. Furthermore, most PEA employees identified innovation as being environmentally friendly.

    A Model of Engineering Education for Innovation

    The purpose of this paper is to present implications of innovation for Engineering Education (EE) and research. The specific objectives are as follows: Analyze innovation policies from India, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea and the Association of South-East Nations (ASEAN): Identify common themes between policies; determine implications for EE for Innovation (EEFI); create a model of EEFI; determine implications for EEFI research. Analysis of the policies led to the identification of seven themes: prosperity, humanity, inclusivity, capacity, sustainability, inquiry, and community. These themes guided the creation of a model of EEFI. The model consists of four principal bases: learner-based; STEM + AE-based, problem-based and; project-based. Learner-based focuses on what engineers are in terms of their personal and professional competencies. STEM + AE are a reminder that engineers must be more than technicians, well-versed in STEM. Their education needs to include the arts and entrepreneurship. The problem base refers to EEFI activity being driven by complex, authentic, ill-structured challenges, problems and issues that have a social as well as a technical character. The project-base involves collaborative efforts to find answers to questions and create solutions to problems and challenges. Implications for research highlight a range of approaches to researching EEFI from quantitative surveys of perceptions of participants to complex research designs whereby engineers in training are collaboratively solving real problems in communities.

    Quality, equity, inclusion and lifelong learning in pre-service teacher education

    Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable, quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. One of the three means of implementation of SDG 4 targets is SDG 4c which calls on countries and donors to significantly increase the supply of qualified teachers in developing and underdeveloped countries. This emphasis on the supply of teachers is in recognition of the fact that the quality of education ultimately depends on teachers. In general, there is widespread agreement that teacher education has an important role to play in the achievement of the SDG 4 targets. However, there has been limited attention in the literature to SDG 4 in a context of teacher education. This paper aims to contribute to the literature on SDG 4 and teacher education. The paper first presents a conceptual framework pertaining to quality, equity, inclusion, and lifelong learning. Next, the framework is applied to the case of Thailand to identify examples of progress the country is making in support of realization of SDG 4 in teacher education. The framework with the four concepts can be applied by researchers to identify examples of progress on SDG 4 in teacher education in other countries and contexts.

    Single-input multiple-output voltage-mode shadow filter based on VDDDAs
    This paper presents a voltage-mode shadow filter with single-input multiple-output (SIMO) configuration using voltage differencing differential difference amplifiers (VDDDAs). In this design, the low-pass and high-pass output functions of the single-input three-output second order filter are feedback via the voltage amplifier. The proposed filter consists of three VDDDAs, one grounded resistor and two grounded passive elements. The proposed filter uses grounded elements which is attractive for integrated circuit (IC) fabrication. It can simultaneously provide low-pass (LP), high-pass (HP), band-pass (BP), band-reject (BR) and all-pass (AP) responses without matching condition. The proposed circuit has high input impedance. The natural frequency (ω <inf>0</inf> ) and quality factor (Q) can be independently and electronically tuned by changing the external DC bias currents. The effect of the non-ideal and parasitic elements of the VDDDA is studied and investigated. The PSpice simulation and experimental results using CMOS technology and commercially available active devices are given to confirm the workability of the proposed filter.
