Abstract
Tomographic process is a quite-novel tool for the 3D image reconstruction. A reconstruction process is as the following: - first, a sequence of photographic images is captured around an interested object. Each row in the digitised images is repeatedly filtered backprojected yielding a stack of cross-sectional images. For better visualization, the surface-rendering technique and the lighting model are implemented on the voxels of cross- sectional images to obtain a 3D shape that resembles to the original object. This method has advantages against the conventional 3D image reconstruction methods in that it never has to solve a complicated correspondence problem, and only plain equipments are required for gathering data from the object. Various objects were tested. The only unresolved problem is the method fails to reconstruct the highly concave-shape object. We also include a solution for a ring-like shape of the cross- sectional images problem.
