Item type:Publication, Sil assessment for tail gas treating process using layer of protection analysis(2018-06-01) ;Poomhuang, Jirawat ;Julsereewong, PrasitThepmanee, TeerawatA tail gas treating process is one of pollution control processes in refineries and natural gas processing plants required to manage process safety. Based on IEC 61511 safety lifecycle, the safety must be maintained during all design, operation, and maintenance activities. This paper addresses an allocation of specific functions performed by a safety instrumented system (SIS) to protection layers in analysis phase of the safety lifecycle for the studied tail gas treating process. An application of layer of protection analysis (LOPA) process to evaluate three scenarios identified in a prior hazard and risk assessment by using a hazard and operability (HAZOP) study is proposed. The results obtained from the proposed assessment are the specifications of the safety function requirements and the safety integrity requirements. The safety integrity level (SIL) determination results can be utilized as the criterions for the safety instrumented function (SIF) design and engineering in order to conform the required SIL. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

The hardware implementation consists of instruments for measuring process data and pump input parameters, controllers for maintaining test conditions and test procedures, and engineering/operator workstation. Pump testing, real-Time monitoring, data gathering, and test reporting of the implemented system are based on LabVIEW. Centrifugal pump manufacturers in Thailand can use the proposed test system for determining the efficiency of their products on assembly line before official product testing and certification or customer shipment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Comparative study on cascade control configuration in engineering phase for analog system and FF system(2017-02-06) ;Khochasin, Narupon ;Trisuwannawat, Thanit ;Julsereewong, PrasitJulsereewong, AmphawanThis paper presents a comparative study of two configuration techniques for building cascade control loops in engineering phase by using traditional analog system and modern digital Foundation Fieldbus (FF) system. For both analog and FF systems, control strategy configurations for providing the process control loop with high safety and the process control loop with high availability are described. The engineering software of the CentumVP host system is used to build the studied control systems, and it is also employed to check the consistency of the configurations. Comparison results show that the smart FF devices provide powerful functionalities for ease of engineering to take special actions in the events of undesired conditions. In addition, the results from the studied cases can be the practical guideline to configure the interlocks that are essential for system safety and availability. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Integration of Weighing Indicator with Proprietary Commands into PLC-Based System Using Modbus Protocol(2017-01-01) ;Chanka, Lerson ;Smerpitak, Krit ;Julsereewong, PrasitJulsereewong, AmphawanThis paper presents a technique to integrate a stand-alone weighing indicator with proprietary commands into a monitoring system of industrial production processes. The proposed technique is based on creating a new function block of the programmable logic controller (PLC) used in weighing machine control for converting weighing indicator commands into the Modbus-RTU commands. Creation of the function block operated in the PLC modeled CP1L-M30DR-D for converting commands of the AD-4401 weighing indicator to display on the Panel Master touch-screen monitor is described as an illustrative case study. Based on the proposed method, weighing data at the field site for local readout can be added into process data monitoring at the human machine interface (HMI) station of the PLC-based system. This enables ease of upgrading the weighing machine used, which has weighing indicator with local readout display. Performance of the proposed system integration is verified by experimental results. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Flow metering modification for avoiding control valve cavitation in hydrocarbon industry(2016-11-01) ;Pilaoon, Pongsak ;Kummool, Sart ;Julsereewong, PrasitJulsereewong, AmphawanThis paper presents a practical technique for solving noise and vibration problems caused by control value cavitation in existing pipeline measurement system for condensate residue flow metering of an aromatics plant in hydrocarbon industry. A cause of cavitation in the control valve is due to change in the purpose of flow metering system from use for custody transfer measurement to use for normal process monitoring and control. In order to avoid damaging effects of cavitation, pipeline modification by installing a new monitoring and control system is proposed. Based on the recommended practice of International Society of Automation (ISA) for evaluating control valve cavitation, the evaluation results confirm that no incipient cavitation occurs in the selected control valve for new installation in the proposed modification under normal service conditions. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Design of functional safety model for tail gas treating process(2016-01-24) ;Poomhuang, Jirawat ;Julsereewong, PrasitThepmanee, TeerawatThis paper addresses the design of functional safety model for process automation in accord with IEC 61508/61511 standard. Functional safety design of a tail gas treating unit has been conducted in this study. The quantitative fault tree analysis approach which has been proved to be acceptable and widely applied in many applications of modeling and methods supporting the designer and safety engineer not only to identify how subsystems and components could fail and what are the corresponding effects on the whole system, but also to quantify the reliability parameters for complex systems. The analytical evaluation of the probability failure on demand and the failure rate for the system, all these component are supposed to be not repairable and the probability distributions of time to failure random variables are assumed to be exponential function. The calculation result is used as the criterion for the safety instrumented function design in order to conform the required safety integrity level. The experimental show that the subsystem architecture of safety instrumented function has a significant impact on improving the average probability of failure on demand of the process. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Low-cost instrument for oscillometric blood pressure measurement(2015-01-01) ;Wongjan, Anan ;Julsereewong, PrasitJulsereewong, AmphawanThis article presents a technique for design and implementation of a lowcost microcontroller-controlled instrument for noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) measurement based on oscillometric method. The proposed measuring device consists of a HEM-CR24 cuff for wrapping around a subject’s upper arm with automatic inflation, SCX pressure sensor, pneumatic subsystem, circuitry subsystem, PIC18F452 microcontroller, and LCD display module. The systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and heart rate (HR) can be simultaneously measured and digitally displayed. The performance of the proposed instrument is confirmed through calibration results by using the BP Pump 2 NIBP monitor tester. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effective energy saving for cold rolling mill driven by large DC motors in steel production industry(2014-02-04) ;Kummool, Sart ;Julsereewong, PrasitLerdlum, NattawootA useful technique to reduce power consumption for cold rolling mill driven by large direct current (DC) motors in steel production industry is introduced. The proposed method is based on automatically stopping cooling units and shunt-field winding exciters of DC motors for operating the mill in maintenance mode and long-time stand-by mode. The smart relay modules and normally-closed contractors used for energy saving are controlled via an existing direct digital control (DDC) system. Performance of the proposed technique has been observed at a Sendzimir cold rolling mill using the stand driven by three couples of 2,150 kW DC motors in Thailand. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides saving in energy cost in a short payback period. © 2014 ISSN 2185-2766. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
