Wire HART field device is connected to WirelessHART adapter (THUM) and WirelessHART device are assigned act as RTU(Remote Terminal Unit) in SCADA system. In system, THUM and WirelessHART device communicate to WirelessHART gateway that collects their data and send to master station with Modbus/TCP. The paper presents the practices to install and configure the THUM with control valve wire HART device, WirelessHART transmitter, tags assignment, and so on that focus for HART parameters mapping in order to device operation and management. Effectiveness of the proposed system integration is verified by simulation and experimental results. Moreover, the technique can be applied in existing plants or in new project to support end-users to quickly and easily gain the benefits of device diagnostic and decision support for operation and management.

    Detailed knowledge of how to balance between safety and availability for instruments is essential to successful design and implementation in fieldbus-based process control systems. The configuration correctness is crucial to actually obtain the benefits of digital fieldbus technology used. In actuality, a number of device parameters must be set to provide the required functionalities. This paper focuses on improving safety and availability for the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) and cascade control strategies using Foundation Fieldbus (FF) with control in the field. The aim of this paper is to analyze the logical behaviors of PID and cascade loops in two conflicting purposes for studying how different configuration options affect the interlocks between function blocks located in instruments as well as the initialization and fail-safe mechanisms in response to invalid measurements. For safety purpose, the interested control loops are configured to bring the process to a safe state in the presence of a fault. For availability purpose, the interested control loops are configured to keep the process running in the event of a failure. A water tank process is utilized as a case study for control loop implementations. Interactions between the status propagation and mode shedding for demonstrating the studied control loop behaviors are examined experimentally in Petri net models. In addition, the function block options for bumpless transfer and setpoint tracking are also described. The proved configuration method for proper operations in balancing the interests of safety and availability is proposed.

    A parallel-connected negative DC-DC converter using power saving techniques has been proposed in this paper. Unlike conventional negative converters, the proposed converter consists of four negative heap converters connected in parallel, where the power switch is driven by non-overlapped four-phase pulses cyclically. In two of the four negative heap converters, a part of the electric charge in parasitic capacitances is reused in each clock cycle. For this reason, the proposed converter can reduce energy loss than the conventional converters. The validity of the proposed technique was confirmed by simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) simulations and theoretical analysis. When the output load is 1 km, the proposed converter was able to improve power efficiency more than 11% compared to the conventional converter. © 2013 IEEE.

    Safety enhancement for basic process control using 4-20 milliampere signal transmission
    (2021-08-01) ;

    ;
    To enhance safety of basic process control using traditional 4-20 mA current loops with/without transmitting a return signal of actual actuator position back to a host, this article presents a useful technique to provide fault-state and fault-recovery actions in four patterns. The proposed technique is a design of control drawings configured in a distributed control system (DCS) host for conventional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) loops with/without feedforward path to improve actions of the control loops in response to sensor and actuator failures. The configuration design based on functions of failure status propagation and failure mode shedding for eight control drawings that contain software function blocks for running on the DCS host modeled CENTUM VP is described. Simulation results by employing the DCS virtual test function verify that all designed control drawings can successfully perform the desired fault-state and faultrecovery actions for process safety enhancement.

    Family of Fibonacci-Type Marx Generators with a Single Inductor in a Three-Phase Configuration

    ;
    High-voltage discharge applications have seen a widespread adoption of solid-state Marx generators (SSMGs) in recent years. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid solid-state Marx generator (HSSMG) with a single inductor. Through the application of a three-phase Fibonacci scheme, the HSSMG is capable of achieving a substantial increase in voltage output. Furthermore, the proposed HSSMG is able to generate high voltage efficiently with fewer components. The integration of the Fibonacci and boost modules is a crucial idea in the proposed technique, where the boost module increases the output voltage of the Fibonacci module to achieve higher output voltage. Regarding the proposed two-stage HSSMG, the theoretical feasibility of the proposed topology is confirmed by theoretical analysis and Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis (SPICE) simulations. As a result of comparative analysis, it was found that the number of circuit components of the proposed two-stage HSSMG is approximately half that of the traditional SSMG. Moreover, the newly suggested two-stage HSSMG accomplishes more than 86% power efficiency at 5 W.

    This paper presents a method for evaluating reliability and unreliability of emergency shutdown function for a control system of heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), which is operated with active redundant for providing safety and protection. The studied triple-pressure HRSG for driving the steam turbine in a power plant consists of three sections: high pressure section, intermediate pressure section, and low pressure section. A safety shutdown is based on level and pressure sensing system with three pressure transmitters and three level transmitters in each section for implementing a voting algorithm in order to tolerate the failure ofone sensor. Fault tree analysis (FTA) is employed as a tool for analyzing probability functions ofsuccess and failure for three possible voting algorithm configurations. Based on the obtained modeling, complex data of the studied system are transformed to accurate prediction of its reliability and unreliability.

    This paper presents an analysis of possible causes of nuisance tripping of paper machine effect to imperfect paper production. The possible causes of the focused paper machine failure are paper thickness, paper type, sensor configuration, and sensor placement. Experiment procedures based on analysis of variance (ANOVA) are designed to test the interesting causes. Analysis result can be useful for minimizing the imperfect paper production.

    To improve power efficiency, a power saving technique for the ring-type DC-DC converter is proposed in this paper. By reusing a part of the electric charge in stray parasitic capacitances, the proposed converter can achieve higher power efficiency than the conventional converter. The results of the simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) simulation showed that more than 8% of the power efficiency was improved by the proposed converter when the output load is 10km. Furthermore, a handy equation to estimate the maximum power efficiency of the proposed converter is provided by theoretical analysis. © 2013 IEEE.
