Item type:Publication, Knowledge, attitudes, and adoption process towards innovative agricultural food production with aquaponics for communities with limited spaces in urban Bangkok, Thailand(2023-07-01) ;Simakorn, S. ;Suwanmaneepong, S. ;Cavite, H. J.M.Yomla, R.The study found that household respondents have positive attitudes towards the Golden Apple Snail-Vegetable/Herb (GASVH) aquaponics innovation. Results implied that urban households were open to constant exploration of how the innovation would give better livelihood and income opportunities. Furthermore, the adoption acceptance survey revealed that household respondents generally have high-level ratings at each stage of the adoption process. This finding indicates respondents' positive knowledge and attitude toward an enhanced innovation adoption of GASVH aquaponics. It is recommended that GASVH aquaponics innovation be promoted particularly to urban households, as this can help to address food security and safety issues in urban areas. Urban families generally had high knowledge and positive attitudes towards technology which it is promising innovation for adoption. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Supply chain structure and constraints of a rice production community enterprise: Evidence from rural Thailand(2022-05-01) ;Cavite, H. J.M.Suwanmaneepong, S.Supply chain involves actively streamlining a business’s supply-side activities to maximize customer value and gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. In rice production, the concept of supply chain has been explored in several studies across Thailand. However, its current supply chain structure has not been updated to keep up with the emerging constraints in production and marketing, particularly at the level of community enterprises. This study investigated the supply chain structure and constraints of Ban Nong Saeng community enterprise in Chachoengsao province, Thailand. Results revealed that a chain of five major channels comprised the Ban Nong Saeng community enterprise’s supply chain as rice moved from the farm to final consumers. This chain includes farmers, primary and final processors, dealers, and local retailers. Farmers produced rice according to Organic Thailand standards. Processors create added value to rice products through product handling, packaging, and branding. Meanwhile, distributors supply packed rice to various local outlets such as Sanam Chai Khet hospital market, Wat Phra That Wayo market, and community farmers’ market. However, among the identified constraints were inadequate postharvest management skills at the farmers’ level, lack of rice mill certification at the processor’s level and poor product packaging quality, and inadequate consumer information at the marketers’ level. This research provided the insights into how the supply chain of a rice production community enterprise worked and what improvements are needed to address the existing constraints. Future studies are recommended to formulate strategic guidelines to address each problem identified. Item type:Publication, Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria from upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) rhizosphere and their tricalcium phosphate solubilizing abilities(2018-12-01) ;Cavite, H. J.M. ;Mactal, A. G.M. ;Cruz, J. A.Khermkhan, J.Insoluble forms of phosphorus (P) may be converted to soluble P by phosphate-solubilizing organisms living different soil ecosystems to make them available for plant roots to be absorbed. In this study, isolation of rhizobacteria and screening of their ability for phosphate solubilization was done. A total of 25 isolates were obtained from upland rice rhizosphere in Isabela province, Philippines. Measuring the solubilizing efficiency revealed that seven out of 25 isolates were found to be promising phosphate-solubilizers showing clearing zone around the colony. Moreover, phosphorus solubilization index (PSI) of the isolates ranged from 1.25 to 1.60 and results obtained are higher than other observations indicating that strains of bacteria isolated are effective phosphate-solubilizers. Furthermore, these PSB could serve as efficient biofertilizer candidates for improving the P nutrition of the crop. This observation can be a promising contribution to cropping system of upland rice, which is constrained by drought leading to inefficient P acquisition. If further developed, this can be eco-friendly and prove to be cost effective strategy to improve upland rice production particularly in the Philippines.
