Item type:Publication, Design and Installation of Passive Power Filter for Grid-connected Solar Rooftop Applications at Industrial Plants(2019-05-15) ;Boonseng, C. ;Rapeepornpat, B. ;Suksawat, D. ;Nilnimitr, N.Inwanna, W.This paper presents a study of harmonic filters design to minimize harmonic distortion caused by a harmonic source such as ac drives and solar rooftop inverters. To avoid a problem caused by the harmonics which is produced from ac drives and solar inverters, the Passive Power Filters System (PPFs) are presented. The analysis includes the basic principles, the KMITL Program and economic aspects of the harmonic filter design. The major objectives in the study are to improve the power factor, to reduce current and voltage distortion and to reduce resonance problems at a system. Practically, it is ensured that the PPFs is the best solution applied for grid-connected system. The results show that the 5th harmonic filters are a very appropriate solution for most typical harmonic problems. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Power Factor Improvement and Inrush Current Reduction of a Grid Connected Split-Phase Induction Generator(2018-11-27) ;Prapurt, N. ;Sawetsakulanond, B.Kinnares, V.This paper proposes power factor improvement and inrush current reduction of a 1/2 HP, 220 V, 4.8 A, 4 poles single-phase grid connected split phase induction generator by connecting a capacitor for reactive compensation and a single-phase ac voltage controller for reducing inrush current during starting of the grid connected induction generator. Analysis and comparison of generator performance between calculation with an equivalent circuit and testing in a laboratory are given. Simulation of the generator operation during starting of connection with the power system using MATLAB/Simulink is also included. From testing results, it is found that the capacitor can improve power factor but it causes an increase in harmonic currents. Soft starting of the grid connected generator with the ac voltage controller offers a reduction in the peak inrush current with 75-80% of the peak inrush current with direct on line start. The simulation results using MATLAB/Simulink are in good agreement with testing and theoretical results. The research results are guidelines for single-phase grid induction generator applications in effective electricity production. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Low Harmonic Distortion of Input Voltage and Current of a Medium Voltage Drive for Sugar Mill Plants(2018-11-27) ;Boonseng, C. ;Rapeepornpat, B.Kinnares, V.The medium voltage drive (MVD) is a high voltage alternating current variable frequency device developed and designed for the sugar mill plant in Thailand. The medium voltage drive features offer excellent performance, easy and convenient operation and a wide range of applications using IGBT power devices and complete digital control. Using multipulse input rectification transformer technology efficiently lowers the content of the grid side distortion current to less than 3%. The power cell rectifier is a regular six-pulse diode bridge. However, the phase-shift transformer is designed to combine all power cell input currents into a 24-pulse grid side current. It meets the IEEE 519-1992 standard and the strict requirements of electric grids for distortion, and enhances the power factor to more than 0.96 lagging. Finally, the comparative performances between 12-pulse, 18-pulse and 24-pulse converters are presented. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, A development design of ozone generator with a new helix coil electrode for micro bacterial disinfection in hospitals(2015-01-26) ;Potivejkul, S. ;Leejongpermpoon, S. ;Markchun, C.Kinnares, V.This article presents development of a new helix coil electrode of an ozone generator for disinfection in hospital. In development of the proposed electrode, the optimal spacing between each turn of the helix coil has been investigated. The considered spaces are 1 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm. To confirm the performance of the proposed electrode, the capability in ozone generation has been considered in an HV laboratory by comparison of ozone concentration generated by the proposed and conventional cylindrical electrodes. The helix coil electrode as an inner electrode was made from copper wire and the cylindrical electrode with radius of 1.5 cm as outer electrode was made of stainless steel. Those two electrodes are separated by air gap with gap spacing of 1 mm and glass material with thickness of 1.4 mm. The inner electrode is connected to a high voltage source and the outer one is connected to ground. In the experiment, air flow rate was set to be 20 l/hr to 150 l/hr. The applied peak high voltage with frequency of 20 kHz used in the experimental is set to be 0 to 6 kV. The experimental result show that the condition of the spacing of 2 cm, air flow rate of 50 l/hr and peak voltage of 6 kV provides the highest ozone concentration of 840 ppm. From the experimental results, it is high possibility that the developed electrode is able to use in ozone generators for micro bacterial disinfection in hospitals. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The development of a prototype of polluted gas reducing instrument used for gasoline vehicle(2015-01-26) ;Potivejkul, S. ;Kitwattana, K. ;Udomdat, P.Kinnares, V.This paper presents the development of a prototype of polluted gas reducing instrument which used for a gasoline vehicle. Effect of the electric field between electrodes in the instrument to capability in polluted gas reduction has been studied. In experiments, the electric field of 0-25 kV/cm 20kHz was varied. The revolution speed of engine was set to be 700 rpm. Electrode is wire-plan with 2 layer insulated acrylic plastic and air are 3 mm both of them. It is not necessary to use another power supply from outside the vehicle, since the battery used in the vehicle is used as a power supply of the instrument. The prototype can operate very well. The results showed that using only vehicle battery can provide energy to the electrodes to generate an electric field for reducing emission gases. Actually, it can reduce carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons by 36.3%, 21.6% and 9.1% respectively.
