Developed from international case studies, expert insights, and pilot data, the model addresses ecosystem gaps through tailored guidance, funding access, and network enhancement. It comprises three phases and seven steps: the Foundation Phase (ecosystem entry and connections), the Acceleration Phase (3Cs-focused mentoring), and the Evolution Phase (scaling and improvement). The framework balances structure with adaptability, making it applicable across sectors such as DeepTech, HealthTech, AgriTech, and the creative economy. Policy recommendations include establishing a national mentorship platform, stage-based financing, mentor certification, and integrated monitoring systems aligned with national innovation goals. The model fosters collaboration among incubators, accelerators, and public–private stakeholders while enabling consistent support for scaling startups. Future research should assess long-term impact and explore AI-powered mentor matching and inclusive strategies for women and regional founders. Ultimately, the 3Cs framework offers a scalable, policy-relevant pathway to strengthen IDEs and support Thailand's transition from a startup-focused to a scale-up innovation economy. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Impact and policy supporting Thailand innovation driven enterprise: orchestrating university innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem with public and private stakeholders(2024-12-01) ;Thawesaengskulthai, Natcha ;Chatmarathong, AwirutKoiwanit, JarotwanThis research paper aims to investigate the impediments faced by innovation-driven enterprises in Thailand and to explore the current measures, policies, and mechanisms related to innovation-driven enterprises (IDEs)’ development both domestically and internationally. The study encompasses a comprehensive approach, including an analysis of an innovation entrepreneur database comprising 320 investors and 883 IDEs. Moreover, semi-structure in-depth interviews were conducted with three investors, twenty-two IDEs’ founders, eight executives, and experts from various sectors, including government, university incubators, and the private sector in Thailand. Through this multifaceted investigation, this paper sheds light on the key factors that hinder the success of IDEs in Thailand, which primarily revolve around the quality of entrepreneurs (Team), Product and Market Fit, and Support. These factors collectively impact the depth of knowledge, business incubation, acceleration programs, and the effectiveness of laws, measures, and policies in supporting innovation capability development within IDEs. In addition, this paper presents a framework for Thailand’s IDEs hub, facilitating the connection between the university's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem with public and private stakeholders. This framework serves as a mechanism to address the identified hindrances and foster a conducive environment for IDEs development. To address the obstacles, this paper proposes three crucial strategies, namely, (1) talent management, (2) ease of doing scaleup, and (3) availability of funding. These strategies are envisioned to counteract the identified challenges and can be effectively implemented through an operating model and practical working procedures tailored to suit the specific context of Thailand. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Development of a university innovation ecosystem assessment model for Association of Southeast Asian Nations universities(2022-12-01) ;Chaipongpati, Jirawan ;Thawesaengskulthai, NatchaKoiwanit, JarotwanUniversities are centres of innovation and technology transfer, and they play a particularly strong role in the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with developing technology programs. However, there are only a few assessment tools for evaluating a university’s innovation ecosystem, and these tools are frequently lacking either in terms of process orientation or in other gaps. The objective of this research was to develop a model of an innovation ecosystem for an ASEAN university and to identify the relative importance of each factor. A multi-method approach was used. In the Stage 1 research, a Delphi study of ASEAN-based university innovation experts (n = 40) was conducted. This research resulted in a preliminary assessment tool. This tool was then evaluated through a broader survey of university innovation experts in ASEAN (n = 418). The data were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis. The results identified a total of 21 innovation areas in four role-based domains: Leaders and Governors, Educators, Innovators and Connectors. The resulting assessment instrument is suitable for use in university innovation ecosystem development and policy making.
