Item type:Publication, Investigating antagonistic activity of fish gut bacterial isolates against aquaculture pathogens: Short Communication(2024-05-01) ;Prakash, M. P.K. ;Padmanaban, D. ;Loganthan, C. ;Palaniswamy, K.Krishnamoorthy, K.Aquaculture worldwide suffers significant economic losses and high fish mortality due to bacterial diseases. Antibiotics have been used extensively to combat these infections owning to the overuse of antibiotics, Drug-resistant bacteria can emerge. Studies on probiotics, which provide improved growth and disease resistance, are becoming more and more popular as an antibiotic substitute, Bacteria derived from a marine setting such as fish gut might be putative candidate for aquaculture probiont. In vitro antagonistic activity against fish pathogens has been used to assess the antimicrobial properties of bacteria isolated from the gut of Sardinella longiceps and Rastrelliger Kanagurta. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Isolation and screening of fish gut actinomycetes for antibacterial activity against Uropathogenic Escherichia coli(2023-09-01) ;Jisha, K. ;Gayathri, G. ;Gopikrishnan, V. ;Vareeket, R.Prabha, T. R.Actinobacteria are among the most studied prokaryotes due to their propensity to create microbial bioactive compounds. Actinobacterial members can be found in a wide variety of aquatic and terrestrial settings, incorporating marine habitats. Actinomycetes isolated from the marine environment are gaining popularity due to their diverse structures and unique biological properties of the secondary metabolic products. The research was investigated the antibacterial properties of actinobacteria associated with gut of marine fish against human pathogen. Approximately 20 morphologically distinct strains obtained from Engraulis sp. (anchovy fish) and Trachurus trachurus (horse mackerel) were proved for antibacterial efficacy against Extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC). The actinobacterial strain HM7 expressed antibacterial effect against UPEC. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, New discovery of natural product nanoparticles constructed from active metabolites from Chaetomium brasiliense for immunity to brown spot of rice var. RD 47(2023-01-01) ;Vareeket, R.; Natural product nanoparticles constructed from active metabolites from Chaetomium brasiliense is firstly presented as a new elicitor for immunity to brown spot of rice var. RD 47 caused by Drechslera oryzae. The nano-CBH, nano-CBE, nano-CBM from C. brasiliense at 15 μg/ml are treated to rice leaves after 3 days expressed R<inf>f</inf> of 0.61 which supposing to be Oryzalexin C. Moreover, ethyl acetate, hexane and methanol crude extract derived from C. brasiliense that shown to be inhibited D. oryzae which the ED<inf>50</inf> were 0.24, 0.32 and 0.35 μg/ml, respectively. Nano-CBH, nano-CBE, nano-CBM inhibited D. oryzae with ED<inf>50</inf> values of 5.86, 4.92, and 2.86 μg/ml, respectively. All nanoparticles derived from C. brasiliense were more actively responded to suppress the pathogen inoculum of D. oryzae at the lower concentration than crude extracts at lower concentrations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Nano-particles from Cheatomium brasiliense against brown spot of rice(2018-12-01) ;Vareeket, R.; ;Kanokmedhakul, S.Kanokmedhakul, K.Chaetomium brasiliense was used in this study to control rice brown spot disease pathogen, Drechslera oryzae. The result of bi-culture test showed that Ch. brasiliense gave the hightest percentage of growth inhibition at 26.38% and had the highest spore inhibition at 23.81%. In crude extracts test, it was found that crude methanol extract obtained from Ch. brasiliense at 1000 ppm showed the highest inhibitory effect on colony growth and spore production. Ch. brasiliense gave a growth inhibition and spore inhibition rates at 83.50 and 99.78% respectively. The effective dose (ED <inf>50</inf> ) on growth and spore inhibition of Ch. brasiliense was 80.54 and 0.35 µg/ml, respectively. It was also found that Nano-particles obtained from crude methanol extract of Ch. brasiliense (nano CBM) at 10 ppm had the best inhibitory effect in terms of growth and spore inhibition. Nano CBM can inhibit the growth at 70.00% and spore production at 79.92%. The ED <inf>50</inf> values for spore inhibition of Ch. brasiliense was 2.86 µg/ml.
