This paper presents an investigation of the impact of a rising number of electric-vehicle charging points on an interconnected distribution system. Using the PSCAD 4.6 software, this study simulates an electric-vehicle charging station consisting of a charging unit with 2 DC charging and a maximum power of 100 kW. The station receives power from a 23 kV substation through a step-down transformer at 400 V and provides power through the charging unit. The unit regulates the voltage level at 500 V and has a maximum charging capacity of 50 kW each. In addition, the study replicates an actual distribution system of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in the section spanning the Si Samrong to Sawankhalok substations in Sukhothai Province, Thailand. The effects of the following study conditions on the power quality are observed in the simulation: 1) variable location of charging panels, 2) variable number of charging panels, and 3) additional sets of charging panels in the distribution system. The results show that the charging-panel installation location and number of charging panels are significant factors that affect the power quality, including the voltage level. Therefore, optimizing the design of EV charging stations should consider the location and number of charging panels as important factors.

Partial Discharge Pulse Propagation in Coaxial Cable
    (2022-01-01)

In the past, Coaxial cable was the signal cable used to transfer computer data. However, coaxial cables are now being modified for use in the high voltage coaxial cables to increase the security of power transmission in various areas. In addition to increased security, there is also an issue of stability maintenance and many perspectives as well. Because the cable that used to be utilized is still insulated. Therefore, Partial Discharge (PD) can still happen in the electrical system. This paper presents the PD propagation within the coaxial cable simulated via PSCAD/EMTDC program and carried out with RG-58 coaxial cable in a laboratory by testing the propagation of the PD pulse according to the conditions of different cable distances. From the experiment, the calculations will be reversed by considering on the differences of the time manner that PD pulse flows on the cable. The time reference point that the research studied has 2 points which are Peak to peak and Time of arrival(TOA). The comparison between simulation and experiment indicated the similar results with slight discrepancies caused by factors that can be accepted. TOA has smaller errors comparing with the peak to peak point showing that PD pulse flowing on the cable is attenuation and dispersion to the tailing wave part. That's the reason using Peak to Peak is a time reference point that has more errors. A thorough study of PD propagation is useful for in-depth analysis to locate the PD source accurately. As a result, the defect will be resolved on the spot.

In the recent decade, there has been a rising concern in energy consumption and environmental issues. This trend has shifted the electric authority to focus from fossil fuel to renewable energy. The distributed generation (DG) using a renewable energy source has been raising. The presence of DG can cause using renewable energy sources to cause a technical issue on system protection and operation. This paper aims to study the impact of different DG size installations on the distribution system in terms of the system characteristics. The study is done in both normal conditions and in cases of fault occurrence. The system using in this research is a 22-kV distribution system consists of Wind Power Generation as the DG connected into the distribution line that modeled after part of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in the northern part of Thailand. The simulation was done using PSCAD software. The result from simulation reveals the impact of DG on the distribution system characteristics in terms of significant change in the measured current and voltage signal. Thus, the analysis of the impact of DG on the system must be done to ensure the reliability of the power system.

Impact of multi-distributed generation on key parameter in distribution system
In recent year Distributed generation (DG) has become a point of interest in many countries due to several advantages such as improvement in power reliability, reduction of loss in transmission system, improved efficiency in network and lower environment impact. With this much benefit many networks working on integrate renewable energy source DG to the grid connection. Although it has many advantages, installation of DG in distribution network create several effect on the system. One of major effect is the fault current during a grid disturbance because DG changes the grid contribution to the fault current depending on the penetration level, locations and type of DGs, the operation of the protective system can be affected. In network that already has DG connected installing a new DG in network result in significant chance in fault current. Many research has been done such as effect of connecting DG in distribution network. This paper proposes an impact of multi-DG on distribution system characteristic when fault occur. System under studied is 22-kv distribution network with photovoltaic (PV) array and Wind Power Generation using PSCAD/EMTP program. Key parameter such as System current, voltage were obtained in simulation. Result from simulation reveal that DG has an effect on distribution system characteristic. Obtaining data from research can be used to design protection system for distribution system in the future.
