Item type:Publication, Chaetomium siamense sp. nov., a soil isolate from Thailand, produces a new chaetoviridin, G(2011-01-01) ;Pornsuriya, Chaninun; ; ;Kanokmedhakul, SomdejKhumkomkhet, PrimmalaChaetomium siamense sp. nov., isolated from soil in a pineapple plantation in Thailand, is described and illustrated. The new species is similar to C. cupreum in having superficial globose or ovate ascomata with red circinate ascomatal hairs but can be distinguished by its fusiform ascospores with two apical germ pores. Phylogenetic analysis of ITS rDNA sequence data also supports C. siamense as distinct. Investigation of the secondary metabolites of C. siamense led to the isolation of one new (chaetoviridin G) and seven known compounds (ergosterol, 24(R)-5á,8á-epidioxyergosta-6-22-diene- 3â-ol, ergosterylplamitate, cochliodone D, chaetoviridin A, chaetoviridin F, chrysophanol). © 2011. Item type:Publication, Effective of Neosartorya and Talaromyces to control Alternaria brassicicola causing leaf spot of kale(2018-12-01) ;Punyanobpharat, A.; The antagonistic potential of Neosartorya and Talaromyces proved to control leaf spot of kale caused by Alternaria brassicicola. Leaf spot symptoms were collected from Nakornpathom, Suphanburi, Ratchaburi and Nonthaburi provinces, isolated and identified the pthogen by morphological and molecular characterization. Four isolates were confirmed as A. brassicicola. The pathogenicity test was done by detached leaf bioassay and found that AbK-NP01 was the highest virulence pathogenic isolate. Dual culture technique was used to assay with eight species of antagonistic fungi (N. hiratsukae, N. pseudofischeri, N. aureola, N. spinosa, N. fennelliae, Neosartorya sp., T. trachyspermus and T. muroii) against A. brassicicola. The best effective of antagonist to control the tested pathogen was N. spinosa CHA09-A01. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Antibacterial and anti-tyrosinase activities of the methanolic extracts from leaves of Tectona grandis(2018-12-01) ;Phonmakham, J. ;Wattanasuksakul, S.The antibacterial and anti-tyrosinase activities of methanolic extracts from fresh and fallen leaves of Tectona grandis (Teak) was studied. Fresh and fallen of teak leaves were collected from Thongphaphum and Phitsanulok silviculture research station. Antibacterial activity was determined by disc diffusion method with concentration at 500 µg/disc. Fresh and fallen of teak leaves extracts showed a good activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. In the other hand, fresh teak leaves inhibited growth of Propionibacterium acnes better than fallen teak leaves. The anti-tyrosinase activity was determined by Dopachrome method with concentration at 1500 µg/ml, inhibitory power of tyrosinase enzyme from fresh and fallen leaves extracts value were detected in the percentage between 35.45%-73.65%. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Biological activities of the methanolic extracts from two varieties of Dimocarpus longan seeds(2018-12-01) ;Natungnuy, K. ;Chareonsap, P. P.Dimocarpus longan belongs to Sapindaceae which two varieties are found in Thailand. In addition to commercial longan (D. longan ssp. longan var. longan), in the eastern part of Thailand found another type of flora longan called Thao (D. longan ssp. longan var. obtusus). The total phenolic content and various biological activities was investigated including antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-tyrosinase and cytotoxic activities of the methanolic extracts from two varieties of these longan seeds. The results showed that the most activity of Edor (var. longan) seed extract presented higher biological activities than Thao (var. obtusus) seed extract. The total phenolic content by Folin-Ciocalteu method related to antioxidant activity in DPPH, ABTS and FRAP assays. In antibacterial activity using disc diffusion method both varieties of extracts (5 mg/disc) inhibited Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus and Bacillus subtilis. However, in anti-tyrosinase activity by the dopachrome method Thao revealed similar activity to the commercial longan cultivar Edor with 50% inhibitory concentration (IC <inf>50</inf> ) values of 504.73 and 527.04 µg/ml, respectively. In cytotoxic activity using MTT assay with L929 (Mouse fibroblast cell line), Thao seed extracts were non-cytotoxic activity and stimulated skin cell lines, while Edor showed low cytotoxic activity. Therefore, their bioactive compounds should be studied further for developing longan seed extracts to cosmetic and pharmaceutical products in the future. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Sequence-Related Amplified Polymorphism (SRAP) analysis for studying genetic characterization of Bouea macrophylla. Biodiversitas 17: 539-543. Bouea macrophylla Griff. is well-known as one of native typical fruits in Southeast Asia which needs to be preserved and continuously cultivated because of economical and ecological significances. More recently, sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers have been developed, which are used to amplify coding regions of DNA with primers targeting open reading frames. This technique has proven to be robust and highly variable and is attained through a significantly less technically demanding process. In this research, SRAP method was preliminary applied to assess genetic characterization of B. macrophylla. Genomic DNA was extracted from fresh leaf samples. The result clearly showed that at 100 ng template DNA and MgCl<inf>2</inf> 5 mM concentration are suitable for further PCR analysis. Thirty SRAP primer combinations were initially screened for analysis and 26 primer combinations were chosen for further analysis. A total of 222 DNA fragments, varying from 90-2500 bp, were amplified. The produced band number for each optimal primer set ranged from 3 to 12 with a percentage of polymorphic bands spanning from 33.33 to 80.00%. Therefore, SRAP analysis is suitable for further analysis method on genetic study of Bouea species and related genera. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Biological control of anthracnose disease on banana var 'Namwa Mali-Ong' by Neosartorya species(2018-12-01) ;Pattarasaikul, W.; The anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum musae on banana was controlled by biological control agents. Seven isolates of C. musae were collected from banana growing area in Suphanburi, Nakhonpathom, Ratchaburi and Nonthaburi province, Thailand. Pathogenicity was tested on fresh banana, and proved that isolates CMDC-01 and CMNM-01 were most aggressive isolates. These isolates were molecular phylogeny confirmed species. In vitro test was done by dual culture tecnique, two isolates of pathogen were tested against ten isolates of antagonistic fungi (Neosartorya hiratsukae, N. pseudofischeri, N, aureola, N. spinosa, N. fenneliae, Talaromyces muroii and T. trachyspermus). The result showed the best antagonistic isolate was N. pseudofischeri EU13 which inhibited C. musae CMDC-01 of 51.23% and N. fenneliae CHA03-A11 inhibited C. musae CMNM-01 of 59.85%. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Isolation and identification of phytophthora sp. and pythium sp. from durian orchard in Chumphon Province, Thailand(2018-05-01) ;Suksiri, S. ;Laipasu, P.; The major problem of durian cultivation are root and stem rot disease caused by Phytophthora and Pythium species. Therefore, the pathogens were isolated, identified, and found the virulent pathogenic fungi that isolated from soil planted to durian in Chumphon province. The pathogens were studied on morphological and molecular analysis based on internal transcribed spacer (ITS)-nrDNA sequence. Ten isolates were confirmed as Phytophthora palmivora, Pythium cucurbitacearum, Pythium deliense, Pythium splendens, Mortierella chlamydospora, Mortierella capitata and Mortierella sp. The pathogenicity test was done by detached leaf method in Monthong durian variety. It found that P. palmivora and P. cucurbitacearum were high pathogenic isolates. Moreover, P. splendens was infected and produced symptoms on leaves. It is the first report of P. splendens as pathogenic to durian. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The bioactivities of seed coat and embryo extracts from indian gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica)(2018-03-01) ;Jaiboonma, A. ;Janvikul, W.The research evaluated the bioactivities of seed coat and embryo extracts from Indian gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica Linn). The crude methanolic extract was further successively extracted with hexane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol and water by liquid-liquid partitioning method. The total phenolic content (TPC) in each solvent-extracted fraction was determined by Folin-Ciocateu method. The ethyl acetate seed coat extract possessed the highest TPC with values of 439.09±5.49 milligrams gallic acid equivalent (mgGAE)/g extract. The antioxidant activity of each extract was examined using ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and 2, 2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS+) assay. The ethyl acetate seed coat extract revealed 50% inhibitory concentration (IC <inf>50</inf> value) at a concentration of 31.53±0.36 microgram/milliliter (μg/ml) and ferric-reducing antioxidant power with 751.92±5.22 milligrams ascorbic acid equivalent (mgAAE)/g extract. The antibacterial activity of each extract was performed using disc diffusion method. The ethyl acetate seed coat extract demonstrated the greatest bacterial inhibition against Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, Bacillus cereus DMST 5040, Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228, Staphylococcus aureus TISTR 1466, and Micrococcus luteus ATCC 9341. These results suggested that the seed coat extracted with ethyl acetate could be served as a natural source of the bioactive compounds and used in the preparations of products such as drugs, anti-aging supplements, and cosmetics. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Efficacy of Chaetomium species as biological control agents against Phytophthora nicotianae root rot in citrus(2015-01-01) ;Hung, Phung Manh ;Wattanachai, Pongnak ;Kasem, SoytongThailand is one of the largest citrus producers in Southeast Asia. Pathogenic infection by Phytophthora, however, has become one of major impediments to production. This study identified a pathogenic oomycete isolated from rotted roots of pomelo (Citrus maxima) in Thailand as Phytophthora nicotianae by the internal transcribed spacer ribosomal DNA sequence analysis. Then, we examined the in vitro and in vivo effects of Chaetomium globosum, Chaetomium lucknowense, Chaetomium cupreum and their crude extracts as biological control agents in controlling this P. nicotianae strain. Represent as antagonists in biculture test, the tested Chaetomium species inhibited mycelial growth by 50~56% and parasitized the hyphae, resulting in degradation of P. nicotianae mycelia after 30 days. The crude extracts of these Chaetomium species exhibited antifungal activities against mycelial growth of P. nicotianae, with effective doses of 2.6~101.4 μg/mL. Under greenhouse conditions, application of spores and methanol extracts of these Chaetomium species to pomelo seedlings inoculated with P. nicotianae reduced root rot by 66~71% and increased plant weight by 72~85% compared to that in the control. The method of application of antagonistic spores to control the disease was simple and economical, and it may thus be applicable for large-scale, highly effective biological control of this pathogen.
