    Dielectric analysis of degraded stator bars of a hydro generator

    This paper presents the investigation of dielectric analysis of degraded stator bars by Polarization and Depolarization Current (PDC) measurement. The stator bars obtained from the 30-year in-service synchronous machine were divided into two groups. The first group was the unmodified stator bars. The second group was the simulated degradation stator bars which were composed of the thermal stress stator bars, conductive tap abrasion stator bars, multiple air cavity stator bars, multiple oil filled stator bars and multiple water filled stator bars. PDC test experiment was performed with the stator bar samples. PDC test results were analyzed in time domain and in frequency domain with the derived parameters i.e. R<inf>dc</inf>, real and imaginary part of complex capacitance, C ratio, conduction loss factor and polarization loss factor. It was found that PDC shapes obtained from the conductive tape abrasion stator bar and multiple water filled cavity stator bar were clearly different from that of the unmodified stator bar. For other case studies, the derived parameters showed the usefulness in analysis the degraded stator bar characteristics. For example, the increase in the imaginary capacitance and conduction loss factor can be observed from most cases of degraded stator bar test results.

    UWB Transmission Waveform Application for in an Indoor Localization System

    Nowadays, the indoor localization systems had been widely utilized. The popular use of localization system is the global position system (GPS). However, the system fails in particular environments such as indoors because low received signal power. It is not appropriate to take a position. The indoor localization system was used to assist in finding a position in an indoor environment. There are several techniques used to evaluate. Technique trilateration model is a technique of geometric. This technique leverages circular intersections to estimate target positions. The circles are derived from a set of reference positions. This paper studies on indoor positioning in line of sight (LOS) using by IEEE 802.15.4 standard in ultra wideband option which this study employs trilateration to estimate the position of target objects. Biconical antennas with vertical polarization serve as both transmitting and receiving elements. The evaluation is conducted using a vector network analyzer (VNA) across a frequency range of 3GHz to 11GHz. The positioning accuracy will be assessed in terms of distance error.

    Analysis and design of a zero-voltage-switched (ZVS) quasi-resonant buck converter operating in full-wave mode

    Hard-switching is typically used in most DC-DC converters, where transition of a power switch occurs when it still carries current and is subject to voltage at the same time. The hard-switching operation incurs high stress and switching losses to the device. These problems can be alleviated by zero voltage switching in which a power switch is made to turn on and off at zero voltage. This paper presents analysis and design of a Zero-Voltage-Switched (ZVS) quasi-resonant buck converter operating in full-wave mode. The prototype converter is designed and built. Test results show that the designed converter achieves zero voltage switching and possesses good output regulation throughout its operating range.

    A self-oscillating flyback converter with primary feedback control

    Due to its simplicity and low component count, a self-oscillating flyback converter is an ideal topology for cost sensitive applications, such as mobile phone chargers and auxiliary power supplies. To regulate the output voltage, the conventional self-oscillating flyback converter employs a secondary feedback current mode control scheme whose major components include a TL431 error amplifier and optocoupler. These two components nonetheless contribute significantly to a total cost of the self-oscillating flyback converter. A further cost reduction can be achieved, if the error amplifier and optocoupler can be eliminated altogether. This paper proposes a self-oscillating flyback converter with primary feedback control. In the proposed converter, the error amplifier and optocoupler are replaced by a Zener diode, and the output voltage from the auxiliary winding is used as a feedback variable, instead of the actual output voltage from the secondary winding. In the paper, the operation of the proposed converter is described. The prototype converter operating from a 220 V AC main and producing an output of 24 V/0.5 A is fabricated and tested. Experimental results are presented to verify the converter performance as well as to validate the principle of operation.

    A Study of Low Band UWB Localization with Wooden and Metal Bookshelves Based on Measurement Data

    This paper considers the potential of Impulse-Radio Ultra-Wideband (IR-UWB) technology which can be a barcodes replacement in bookshelf management systems. To assess its feasibility, we analyze IR-UWB propagation characteristics within bookshelf environments, particularly focusing on the impact of wooden and metal structures. A measurement-based evaluation scheme is employed, utilizing a vector network analyzer (VNA) alongside microstrip patch antennas for both the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) operating within a frequency range of 3.2GHz to 4.8GHz. The path loss, received signal strength (RSS), and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the measured data are then analyzed to evaluate the suitability of IR-UWB for bookshelf management applications. These findings will inform the design of IR-UWB antennas and the overall assessment of this technology in this specific context

    The Study of Polarization and Depolarization Current Measurements on Service-Aged 22 kV XLPE Underground Cables with Presence of Water Trees

    This paper represents the condition assessment of service-aged 22 kV XLPE insulated underground cables. From the investigation, the water trees were detected in the insulation layer. The visual inspection of underground cables reveals the presence of copper carbonate contaminated on the copper tape layer. Some underground cables have the discontinuity of the copper tape layer. To evaluate the insulation condition of the underground cables, the polarization and depolarization current (PDC) measurements were performed on both the service-aged and the new (or unused) cables. The underground cables to experiment with the length of insulation screen equal to 1 m were prepared. In this research, the PDC measurements were performed on different aspects, i.e., the testing voltages (600 V, 800 V, and 1000 V), the testing positions, the effect of the discontinuity of the copper tape layer which occurred during service, the influence of the presence of copper carbonate, and the influence of water trees in XLPE cables. The dielectric response of the underground cables by using polarization and depolarization current measurements can diagnose the problems in service-aged underground cables, but this paper needs more test data for accurate interpretation.

    Analysis and Experimental Verification of a Tapped Inductor Buck Converter

    Modern electronic and information technology equipment require a low DC voltage for operation. Therefore, a power supply used in these devices must be capable of a wide voltage conversion. This paper presents an analysis and experimental verification of a Tapped Inductor Buck Converter (TIBC), which employs a coupled inductor to realize a steep voltage step-down gain. A prototype TIBC is built and tested. The measurement confirms that experimental results are consistent with the analytical ones.

    Design and evaluation of a Quadratic Buck Converter

    This paper presents design and evaluation of a Quadratic Buck Converter (QBC). A step-by-step procedure to select the converter's component values and semiconductor device ratings is demonstrated. A prototype QBC with a simple closed loop output voltage control is constructed and experimentally evaluated. It is shown that the converter performs well within the design specification, has good output voltage regulation and fast transient response, and achieves the highest efficiency of 82%.

    This paper introduces the design and experimental validation of an integrated boost-flyback converter with a voltage multiplier (IBFCVM). It describes the operation of the IBFCVM and provides its essential voltage and current equations. A phototyped circuit design for a 72W, 12V-to-120V IBFCVM is presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed IBFCVM exhibits effective output voltage regulation, achieving an impressive efficiency of 89.9%.

    Simplified Analysis and Validation of a Two-switch Flyback Converter

    This paper presents a simplified analysis and validation of a two-switch flyback converter. When parasitic components, i.e. the MOSFET's output capacitance and transformer's leakage inductance, are neglected, circuit analysis of the two-switch flyback converter is greatly simplified and derivation of the converter equations becomes straightforward. The validity of the derived equations, which are useful for the converter design, is confirmed by simulation and experimental results.
