    Strategic Approach of Reverse Logistics Management for Recyclable Waste and Transportation: A Systematic Review

    Strategic reverse logistics management is a key driver of sustainability in supply chains, where challenges in recyclable waste must be aligned with transportation systems to achieve optimal outcomes. A systematic review using the PRISMA methodology was conducted in December 2024 by searching Scopus, Google Scholar, and Thai Journals Online to examine the global research landscape and the strategic approaches applied in reverse logistics for recyclable waste and transportation. Analysis of 32 publications shows a steady rise in research, with most studies in Asia and dispersed across multiple journals, reflecting the field’s multidisciplinary nature. Four strategic approaches were identified. Model-driven approaches demonstrate strong capability through mathematical, computational, conceptual, and hybrid models, achieving reductions of 44% in climate impacts and 34% in costs. Technology-driven approaches contribute innovations to enhance battery transport safety. Exploratory approaches reveal contextual policy gaps and financial limitations. Hybrid approaches can improve efficiency and reduce CO<inf>2</inf> emissions. The future development of hybrid approaches still offers substantial room for broader application and deeper integration. This review supports the development of more effective systems, policies, and future research.

    Portable Modular Pool Prototyping for Military Training and Testing in Remote Environment

    Military training and periodical assessment are essential in preparing a well-built soldier physically and mentally for the Malaysian Army Forces. One of them is the water survival training test. The test consists of a series of aquatic tasks conducted in a remote area. As a matter of fact, it requires a water-pool facility which is durable and portable. Therefore, this research aims to design and prototype a modular portable swimming pool for floating exercises and assessment for military personnel. The study is conducted in partnership with the Royal Army Engineers Regiment, with the objectives being to design, simulate, prototype, and build the modular portable swimming pool for military uses. The study output was tested, evaluated, and appraised on the swimming pool workability on site. The methodology is divided into 4 phases; (i) Content Studies and Design Profiling, (ii) Digital Prototyping, Evaluation and Testing, (iii) Physical Prototyping-Materials and Method; and (iv) Application and Measurement. The study seeks to maximise the training of military personnel and reduce the transportation time and resource costs of building a permanent pool by placing it with a modular portable swimming pool, which is more cost-efficient and user-friendly. The findings of Phase 1 prototyping required improvement on design structure where it indicated disadvantages in sustaining water volume ability at targeted level due to structural integrity. Upon improvement of Phase 2 prototyping using metal with bracing frame the pool are able to sustain the desired water volume at 5200 l<sup>3</sup>. Moreover, this study, also responds to the approaches of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9, 16 and 17 towards harmonizing and interconnecting the three core elements of sustainability, economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection for human well-being.

    MURNInets IMPLEMENTATION TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE TOWNSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN MALAYSIA

    MURNInet (Malaysia Urban Indicators Network) is a framework developed by FDTCP (Federal Department of Town and Country Planning, Peninsular Malaysia) to measure the sustainability levels and performance of urban development in Malaysia. Since its launch in 2002, MURNInet set as a foundation to assess urban development in Malaysia. After review and refinement, it was rebranded as MURNInets (Malaysian Urban-Rural National Indicators Network for Sustainable Development) comprises of 6 sustainable dimensions, 20 sustainable themes and 39 sustainable indicators. The revised MURNInets provides wider agglomeration economies which offers larger prospects for knowledge and sharing information, effective provision of services especially in health and education, and also on cultural exchanges. The aims of this article is to examine the significance and achievement on the implementation of MURNInets by Malaysian Local Authorities. The method used in this study is semi-structured interviews with 8 registered urban planners of government agencies and government-linked organisations. The outcomes suggested that all these sustainable factors are important for societal development, empowerment of public community, wellbeing, cultural solidification, transformation and cosmopolitanism. Generally, all dimensions, theme and indicators were achieved in the implemented score.

    Adaptive Reuse and Film Locations: How Physical Factors Influence the Selection of Older Houses

    This study examines the key factors influencing the selection of residential homes as film locations within Bangkok’s shifting urban landscape. As younger generations favor urban living, suburban detached houses—once highly sought after—are increasingly left unoccupied, particularly in districts such as Ramkhamhaeng, On Nut, and Lat Phrao. In response, some homeowners have repurposed their vacant properties for film production, generating income while contributing to architectural conservation. Adopting a qualitative multi-case study approach, this research investigates three detached houses through in-depth interviews with homeowners, location providers, and film directors, alongside site analysis. Findings reveal that physical attributes— environmental context, accessibility, structural integrity, surface materials, available amenities, spatial configurations, and furnishings—significantly influence a property’s suitability for filming. The use of real homes offers practical advantages, reducing set construction costs while preserving architectural heritage. Moreover, repurposing vacant houses helps mitigate urban decay, lower crime rates, and minimize the environmental impact of new developments. While Boonprasong’s framework provides a valuable foundation for assessing residential filming locations, this study underscores the need for greater adaptability. Factors such as interior layout and homeowners’ emotional ties play a crucial role in decision-making. Furthermore, the study highlights a gap in the literature regarding the adaptive reuse of old houses for film production in Thailand. Future research should explore the economic, social, and conservation challenges of integrating historical architecture into the creative industries. By bridging urban development and film production, this practice fosters sustainable reuse while establishing a mutually beneficial relationship between homeowners and the film industry.
