    Multi level contract net protocol based on holonic manufacturing system implement to industrial networks

    This paper presents a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) that cooperated the holonic manufacturing system (HMS) with automatic material handling devices via industrial networks. The HMS is described as an intelligent manufacturing system that employs multi-agent system with negotiation protocols. The traditional HMS's negotiation protocol usually used the contract net protocol (CPN) and multi-level contract net protocol (MCPN). This paper develops a cooperative system that applies the concept of HMS to implement a distributed control system for automatic warehouse and FMS. Results from simulation indicated that our approach is able to improve the overall system flexibility. The system is able to reconfigure the re-order points, increase the system fault tolerances, and provides the dynamic rescheduling.

    Speckle noise reduction using adaptive singular value decomposition in logarithmic domain

    This paper presents applying the singular value decomposition to reduce speckle noise. Generally, it is used to filter the additive Gaussian noise with zero mean and any variance. Since speckle noise is in multiplicative model, to transform multiplicative model into additive model, we then employ logarithmic transformation. In this paper, speckle noise is generally modeled as Gamma distribution function corresponding with speckle noise of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery applied. All singular value decomposition based filtering processing is in logarithmic domain. Threshold value to determine the effective rank and orders of matrix are adapted as homogeneity analysis. The orders of matrix are consisted of 16 by 16, 8 by 8 and 4 by 4. Normally, the results of the singular value decomposition based filtering after that the filtered matrix is transformed into spatial domain by exponential function is in block-fashion, then blocking effect is occurred. To smooth, the filtered matrix is performed as average filtering by using a number of pixels of 4 by 4 pixels around center of one. Experiments are tested using both simulated image and real image. Signal to noise ratio and equivalent number of looks are employed to evaluate the performance of our method. Our results are good enough when compared with the recent results at which such method is more complex. © 2005 by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.

    Demand forecasting approach inventory control for warehouse automation

    This paper presents a technique to control the inventory level on the warehouse automation by using continuous reviewing and forecasting system. The product demand that stored in the warehouse depend on orders from customers. For each product, the demand follows a Poisson process and the delivery lead-time is known. The demand forecast can predict the trend of order and redefine the reorder point (RP) of inventory that linked to automatic warehouse control system. The automatic warehouse plays an important role in the computer integration manufacturing system (CIMS) The Junctions of CIMS include production planning, material requirement planning, work order generation, process control, quality control, shipping planning, warehouse and inventory management and material cost accounting.     A dynamic associative e-learning model based on a spreading activation network

    Presenting information to an e-learning environment is a challenge, mostly, because of the hypertext/hypermedia nature and the richness of the context and information provides. This paper proposes a dynamic semantic model for e-learning system based on the psycholinguistic theories of human memory; Spreading Activation Network (SAN). This work employs a SAN as a technique to provide the interface's action selection mechanism in an uncertain environment. The paper combines the SAN with the temporal logic to provide an e-learning system that a learning activity level evolves according to their expected contextual relevance. The system differs from the other e-learning by representing dynamic associations between learning activities and the relevance subjects. This system equipped with an Event-Triggered learning interface (context) adaptation component. This component provides multiple parallel processes for perception. These processes provide context screen selection and learning task operation based upon the user current situation. The SAN attempts to achieve a number of goals in an unpredictable complex dynamic environment. Spreading activation explains the predictive top-down effect of knowledge. It supports general heuristics which may be used as the first step of more elaborated methods. This model is suited to deal with the interaction between semantic and episodic memories, as well as many other practical issues regarding e-learning, including the retroactive effect of semantics over perception. The system uses the SAN to activate the most suitable interface screen (context) in response to the current conditions (learning activities) while the system continues working towards the learning objective goal. The paper presents our efforts to realize such e-learning system. The proposed paradigm has been implemented to develop a prototypical system, and the experiments also illustrate the robustness of such an e-learning framework.

    The Programmable logic Controllers (PLCs) are widely used in industrial. Thus PLCs usually used the IEC 1131-3 standard programming language. The ladder diagram is the most popular language that similar to the electrical schematic diagrams which does not require a lot of the steps and sequences of the operation. Therefore it is difficult to understand the program structure and developing the system. The Petri nets is one of graphical models that can be explained the system operating easily and clearly. This paper presents the transformation structures from Petri Nets to Ladder diagram and possible implementation to control the process through PLC's input and output. In this article can be applied to other applications on any PLCs as well.

    Contrast enhancement of satellite image based on adaptive unsharp masking using wavelet transform

    This paper concerns with a method for unsharp masking for contrast enhancement of satellite image. We employ the nature of wavelet transform that separates the original image into low and high frequency sub-band images as low and high pass filter. Particularly, a number of high frequency sub-band images consist of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal coefficients that contain detail of information. Taking inverse wavelet transform of each sub-band image separately except low frequency one, we have each of high frequency information in horizontal, vertical, and diagonal image. All of them are scaled by the scaling factor in each one separately. Adaptive algorithm is implemented to results the suitable scaling factor to obtain the enhanced image corresponding with the given criterion based on variance of each area smooth and detail area. Experimental results show that our method performs well to high enhance in detail area and low in smooth area.

    A PDA-based human-robot interaction using EMG-based modified morse code

    The paper presents an innovative human-robot communication paradigm for people with disability using electromyography (EMG) signals via a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). The paper proposes a novel human-robot interaction architecture where the disabled people could interact with the robot using an EMG-based Morse code-inspired communication from portable devices. The user employs EMG signals to issue high-level commands to the robot that decomposes these commands into low-level primitive subtasks. Then, the robot dynamically constructs an action selection network to form the operational plan. The architecture is developed on a PDA that offers small and lightweight mobile interaction devices. Utilizing the PDA with EMG-based modified Morse code could provide flexibility, mobility, and durability for handicapped people to control the robot-aid system. The proposed paradigm has been implemented to develop a prototypical system, and the experiments also illustrate the conventionality, and the robustness of such a human-robot framework. © 2005 IEEE.

    Design of decoupled controller for TITO system using characteristic ratio assignment

    Most control performances in actual design are usually defined by the time domain response such as overshoot, rising time, settling time, steady state error, etc.. There are few control design methods, which are able to apply directly to the purpose. The pole placement method is the most popular. The Characteristic Ratio Assignment (CRA) is one technique of pole placement based on defined parameter of characteristic equation. This technique cans adjustment of speed response and the damping ratios by only one parameter. In this paper, CRA is use to design controller for two-input two-output (TITO) systems. By using the decentralized CRA controllers and eliminate interaction between loop transfer function with conventional decoupler design method. Several examples are present to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and compared it with existing ones. It is show that CRA design is stable, robust, whilst giving the desired time domain performance. © ICROS.

    A PDA-based human-robot interaction for disabled persons using electromyography

    The paper discusses a novel humane-robot communication system for people with disability using electromyography (EMG) signals via a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), This paper is a continual research from our previous work [1] with the objective of extending our approach to portable device with adaptive user interface capability, It presents an innovative architecture of human-robot interaction where the disabled persons could command the robot through an EMG-based Morse code-inspired communication paradigm on PDAs. The disabled persons may issue high-level commands to the robot via their muscle's EMG Signal. The system will decompose these EMG commands into low-level subtasks. Then, the robot dynamically constructs an action selection network to form the action plan. The architecture is developed on a PDA that offers small and lightweight mobile interaction devices. Utilizing the PDA with EMG-based modified Morse code could provide flexibility, mobility, and durability for handicapped people to control the robot-aid system. Additionally, the system is designed as an agent-based user interface (UI) for mixed-initiative interaction for the user. The proposed paradigm has been implemented to develop a prototypical system, and the experiments also illustrate the conventionality, and the robustness of such a human-robot framework.

    An innovative high-level human-robot interaction for disabled persons

    Human-robot interaction poses great challenges to disabled people who must be able to control the robot via a limited physical ability. A novel semi-autonomous human-robot system where the robot requires only high-level commands from the human to perform its tasks is proposed. In this system a Morse code inspired but relatively more flexible and robust communication technique generates such high-level commands from Electromyogram (EMG) signals. The proposed framework has been implemented to develop a prototypical human-robot interaction system. Initial results from preliminary human subject experiments are encouraging and demonstrative of the advantages of such a human-robot framework.
