    Capacitive measuring of crude palm oil-water mixture

    Oil palm is one of the famous commercial crops of Thailand. The production is in the 3<sup>th</sup> rank of the south east Asia, and plantation is still increasing every year. To investigate the feasibility of using electrical capacitance measuring technique as an alternative method for low-cost non-destructive, oil palm fresh oil (CPO) and water have been prepared and studied. One group is concerned with the immiscible fluid and another is all ultrasonic shakes. The mass concentration (x) of CPO varied from 0 g/cm<sup>3</sup> to 0.9 g/cm<sup>3</sup> and then all experiments were tested on room temperature (25<sup>o</sup>C). Guard parallel structure has been used in conjunction with AD7747 capacitive to digital converter to obtain capacitance value (y). The results show that y = 0.11987x<sup>2</sup> - 0.46104x + 0.47418 with r<sup>2</sup> = 0.98098. The model for second sample is y = 0.08965x<sup>2</sup> - 0.41335x + 0.3731 with r<sup>2</sup> = 0.9554. The capacitance of first sample is higher than the second sample. As previously mentioned, this project aims to make benefit of interest on seasonable optimistic harvests.

    The uncertainty in sugar solution concentration measurement based on density approach

    The concentration of solution used in osmotic process is an important factor to dehydrate water from food, which is an effect to the rate of mass transfer. Therefore, the in line measurement and control of the concentration in osmotic process is taken into account. The density of sugar solution can be computed by volume and weight in order to determine the concentration in degree of Brix. This instrument will complete when accompanied by a statement of its uncertainty. The calibration equation established the relationship between the reading values of sensor and the values of concentration also need to clarify. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the uncertainty of predicted values of calibration equation; therefore, the uncertainty is determined in this study, and to compare the obtained results from the classical method in linear equation and the inverse method. Furthermore, the data from Monte Carlo simulations also are compared to the measured data. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

    Kinetics of dye removal using Fe3O4 nanoparticles and pulsed white-LED illumination
    Removal of dyes with the aid of photocatalytic nanomaterials illuminated with continuous-light sources has been given substantial attention in the recent years. In the present work we study the efficiency of dye degradation using some alternative photocatalytic nanoparticles under condition of pulsed illumination. Our specific purpose is to investigate the removal of rhodamine 6G dye basing on suspended Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf> solution. The experiments are carried out in the batch mode when the effect of the exposition time (ranging from 30 to 150 min) on the dye removal is examined under both continuous and pulsed white-LED illuminations. Different pulsed-light frequencies and duty cycles are tested. We estimate the concentration of rhodamine 6G in the mixed solution following from its absorption spectrum measured with a UV-Vis spectrometer and determine in this manner the percentage of dye removal. Our main conclusion is that Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf> nanoparticles enable removing efficiently the rhodamine 6G dye under pulsed white-LED illumination. In particular, more than 90% of the dye is removed when the duty cycle is equal to 25% and the frequency to 30 kHz. The equilibrium state of this process is achieved in about 60 min.

    Estimation of vertical jump height using nintendo Wii remote IR camera

    In this article, we proposed to measure the heights of countermovement jumps which are recorded in term of vertical leap by using the Wii Remote infrared camera. According to the physical principles, positions of the movement were detected based on the rules regarding conservation of energy, motion under gravity, and coordinate system. The obtained results were compared with that of the slow-motion measurements. The experiment involved 30 basketball players whose jump results were slightly deviated from the vertical measurement of the coordinate system. Therefore, the results should be calibrated each time the new system is installed.

    Saline solution concentration measurement based on contact angle approach

    There are a number of factors that affect the quality control of an osmotic product. One of these is the concentration of the osmotic solution. There are several ways to measure solution concentration, such as optical measurement method, freezing point temperature measurement method, wave principle measurement method, viscosity and specific gravity measurement method. Saline solution concentration of the osmotic solution based on contact angle. The experiments showed whenever the saline solution concentration increased, the contact angle measured on the acrylic substrate increased as well. Their relation is also the linear correlation. Lastly, the developed software evaluated the saline solution concentration based on the contact angle close to the prepared saline solution concentration. The measured concentration was linear correlation with R-squared value of 0.996 that can be accurately applied on concentrations of 5% to 30% with maximum error of 4.72%.
