This paper presents the design of a voltage-mode three-input single-output multifunction first-order filter employing commercially available LT1228 IC for easy verification of the proposed circuit by laboratory measurements. The proposed filter is very simple, consisting of a single LT1228 as an active device with two resistors and one capacitor. The output voltage node is low impedance, resulting in an easy cascade-ability with other voltage-mode configurations. The proposed filter provides four filter responses: low-pass filter (LP), high-pass filter (HP), inverting all-pass filter (AP−), and non-inverting all-pass filter (AP+) in the same circuit configuration. The selection of output filter responses can be conducted without additional inverting or double gains, which is easy to be controlled by the digital method. The control of pole frequency and phase response can be conducted electronically through the bias current (I<inf>B</inf>). The matching condition during tuning the phase response with constant voltage gain is not required. Moreover, the pass-band voltage gain of the LP and HP functions can be controlled by adjusting the value of resistors without affecting the pole frequency and phase response. Additionally, the phase responses of the AP filters can be selected as both lagging or leading phase responses. The parasitic effects on the filtering performances were also analyzed and studied. The performances of the proposed filter were simulated and experimented with a ±5 V voltage supply. For the AP+ experimental result, the leading phase response for 1 kHz to 1 MHz frequency changed from 180 to 0 degrees. For the AP− experimental result, the lagging phase response for 1 kHz to 1 MHz frequency changed from 0 to −180 degrees. The design of the quadrature oscillator based on the proposed first-order filter is also included as an application example.

In this contribution, the realization of a first-order, two-input, single-output voltage-mode multifunction filter employing a second-generation voltage conveyor (VCII) is described. The proposed first-order versatile filter is extremely simple, composed of a single VCII and three passive devices. Because of its low output impedance, the output voltage node can be easily cascaded with other voltage-mode configurations without the requirement of any buffers. In the same circuit topology, the proposed first-order filter provides various filtering functions: inverting and non-inverting low-pass (LPF), inverting and non-inverting high-pass (HPF), as well as inverting and non-inverting all-pass (APF). The digital method allows the selection of output first-order filtering functions without the need for additional circuits such as inverting or double-gain amplifiers. Furthermore, the pass-band gain of the low-pass and high-pass responses can be adjusted by varying the resistance or capacitance values without influencing the pole frequency as well as the phase response. The influence of VCII's current/voltage gain errors and parasitic elements on filtering performance is also investigated. Moreover, the modification of the proposed lagging phase all-pass filter to achieve electronic controllability is also proposed by replacing the passive resistor with the operational transconductance amplifier (OTA). The 0.18μm TSMC CMOS structure of the VCII employed in the proposed filter operates in the subthreshold region and utilizes the bulk-driven technique (BD), enabling it to operate with 0.4V supply voltage and consuming 383 nW of power. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the LPF with an applied input voltage Vinpp=300 mV @ 50Hz is -49.5 dB. An application example as a quadrature sinusoidal oscillator realized from the proposed first-order allpass filter and lossless integrator is also included. The performance of the proposed reconfigurable voltage-mode first-order filter is simulated and experimentally tested using a commercially available AD844 IC-based VCII with ±5 V power supply.

This paper presents inductance simulators using the voltage differencing differential input buffered amplifier (VD-DIBA) as an active building block. Three types of inductance simulators, including floating lossless inductance, series inductance-resistance, and parallel inductance-resistance simulators, are proposed, in addition to their application to the 4th order elliptic lowpass ladder filter. The simple design procedures of these inductance simulators using a circuit block diagram are also given. The proposed inductance simulators employ two VD-DIBAs and two passive elements. The complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) VD-DIBA used in this design utilizes the multiple-input metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) transistor technique in order to achieve a compact and simple structure with a minimum count of transistors. Thanks to this technique, the VD-DIBA offers high performances compared to the other CMOS structures presented in the literature. The CMOS VD-DIBAs and their applications are designed and simulated in the Cadence environment using a 0.18 µm CMOS process from Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company (TSMC). Using a supply voltage of ±0.9 V, the linear operation of VD-DIBA is obtained over a differential input range of −0.5 V to 0.5 V. The lowpass (LP) ladder filter realized with the proposed inductance simulators shows a dynamic range (DR) of 80 dB for a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 2% at 1 kHz and a 1.8 V peak-to-peak output. In addition, the experimental results of the floating inductance simulators and their applications are obtained by using VD-DIBA constructed from the available commercial components LM13700 and AD830. The simulation results are in agreement with the experimental ones, confirming the advantages of the inductance simulators and their application.

The design of a low-power, low-voltage, fully-differential universal biquad filter is presented in this work, which is constructed from four multiple-input gate-driven operational transconductance amplifiers (MI-OTAs) along with one passive resistor and two passive capacitors. The scheme of presented biquad filter has three high-input impedance voltage nodes and single output voltage node. Five unity gain filtering functions, all-pass (AP), low-pass (LP), band-pass (BP), high-pass (HP) and band-stop (BS) responses, are obtained. The selection of output filtering responses is obtained without the need of component matching condition, inverting or double input voltage. With this feature, it can be easily controlled with digital programming. The quality factor (Q) and angular frequency (ω<inf>0</inf>) are electronically and independently tuned. Moreover, the adjustment of ω<inf>0</inf> and Q can be done without affecting the voltage gain. A workability of the design is confirmed via Cadence software and the Spectre simulator based on the 180 nm TSMC CMOS technology parameters. The proposed fully differential filter operates with 0.5 V supply voltage. The results verify that the proposed filter dissipates the total power of 53.3 nW. Additionally, the dynamic range (DR) of band-pass filtering function is 63 dB for 2% third intermodulation distortion (IMD). Also, the simulated RMS value of the band-pass filtering noise is 45 µV.

Single-input multiple-output voltage-mode shadow filter based on VDDDAs
This paper presents a voltage-mode shadow filter with single-input multiple-output (SIMO) configuration using voltage differencing differential difference amplifiers (VDDDAs). In this design, the low-pass and high-pass output functions of the single-input three-output second order filter are feedback via the voltage amplifier. The proposed filter consists of three VDDDAs, one grounded resistor and two grounded passive elements. The proposed filter uses grounded elements which is attractive for integrated circuit (IC) fabrication. It can simultaneously provide low-pass (LP), high-pass (HP), band-pass (BP), band-reject (BR) and all-pass (AP) responses without matching condition. The proposed circuit has high input impedance. The natural frequency (ω <inf>0</inf> ) and quality factor (Q) can be independently and electronically tuned by changing the external DC bias currents. The effect of the non-ideal and parasitic elements of the VDDDA is studied and investigated. The PSpice simulation and experimental results using CMOS technology and commercially available active devices are given to confirm the workability of the proposed filter.

This contribution presents the procedure to synthesis the voltage-mode active biquad filters using the active elements, voltage differencing differential input buffered amplifier (VD-DIBA). Two filtering categories, single input four output (SIFO) configuration and three input three output (TITO) configuration are proposed. Both proposed filters consist of two VD-DIBAs, two grounded capacitors and two resistors. All input voltage nodes for both biquad filters exhibit high impedance. The proposed SIFO biquad filter simultaneously provide four filtering responses, low pass (LP), band pass (BP), high pass (HP) and band reject (BR) functions, while the proposed TITO filter provides five filtering responses (including all pass (AP) function). The natural frequency (ω<inf>0</inf>) is linearly and electronically tuned without affecting the quality factor (Q). Also, the Q adjusting can be done without affecting the ω<inf>0</inf>. By modifying the proposed TITO biquad filter, the current controlled sinusoidal oscillator is achieved. The frequency of the generated sinewave is linearly tuned without affecting the condition of oscillation. The performances of the proposed circuits are simulated by Cadence software and the Spectre simulator of the Analog Design Environment using CMOS VD-DIBA in 0.18 μm TSMC CMOS technology and laboratory experiment using VD-DIBA constructed from commercially available ICs.

This paper describes a synthesis of versatile voltage-mode biquad filter. The presented multifunction filtering topology has one output node and four input nodes for applying input signal. The principle to synthesize the presented versatile second order filter is based on the parallel connection of the passive RLC circuit. The proposed filtering structure is very compact employing single active elements, voltage differencing differential difference amplifiers (VDDDA), two passive resistors and a couple of passive capacitors. In the offered circuit, five voltage-mode biquadratic filtering functions, band pass (BP), low pass (LP), high pass (HP), notch and all pass (AP) filter with unit voltage gain. These filtering functions are given by selecting the voltage signal to appropriate input voltage nodes. The tuning feature of the angular frequency (ω0) is done electronically by respective bias current. Additionally, the quality factor (Q) is tuned without affecting the ω0 by changing value of resistor. The proposed circuit is designed and supported by Pspice simulation. The implementation of VDDDA is realized from off-the-shelf available ICs, LM13700 and AD830. Several simulation results are obtained and confirmed the design and theorical analysis.

Electronically tunable current-mode biquad filter employing CCCDTAs and grounded capacitors with low input and high output impedance
In this study, a single-input multiple-outputs current-mode analog biquadratic filter, based on current controlled current differencing transconductance amplifier (CCCDTA) is presented. The proposed filter uses two CCCDTAs and two grounded capacitors without any external resistors, which is well suited for integrated circuit implementation. The filter simultaneously gives 3 standard transfer functions, namely, lowpass, highpass and bandpass filters with independent control of quality factor and pole frequency by electronic method. By summing of I<inf>HP</inf> and L<inf>LP</inf>, the notch filter can be also achieved. Moreover, the circuit has low input and high output impedance which would be an ideal choice for cascading in current-mode circuit. The PSPICE simulation results are included verifying the workability of the proposed filter. The given results agree well with the theoretical anticipation. © 2013 Elsevier GmbH.
