    Spatial Identity Creation Using Inquiry-Based Learning for Design Students

    The study investigates the utilization of spatial identity creation within cultural tourism as a foundational guideline for designing spatial development strategies, mainly focusing on its integration into design education as a primary pedagogical tool. The research enriches practical design learning using a case study methodology by emphasizing spatial identity comprehension. Specifically, the article aims to incorporate the Inquiry-Based Learning method into design courses to cultivate interior design strategies tailored to small hotels and explore tourists’ perceptions of environmental design. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach encompassing qualitative and quantitative methodologies, the study conducts in-depth interviews with two distinct sample groups to discern key design factors that effectively communicate spatial identity and to scrutinize environments embodying such identities. The findings underscore the significance of integrated designs aligned with user behavior and needs, efficient interior layout principles, consideration of human proportions, and the strategic application of distinctive colors to foster customer-friendly environments. Furthermore, the research underscores the importance of prioritizing safety and durability in material selection and incorporating architectural motifs to convey spatial significance effectively. These outcomes significantly contribute to developing practical design learning aligned with the research objectives.

    The study explores how spatial identity creation for cultural tourism can be used as the primary guideline for designing spatial development strategies. This research focuses on understanding the identity of Chanthaburi Province with the aim of developing an interior design approach for small hotels. Additionally, it investigates tourists' perceptions of environmental design. This research employs a qualitative approach combined with quantitative analysis. The research tools include conducting in-depth interviews with two sample groups to identify the design factors that effectively convey spatial identity and to examine environments that represent spatial identities. Based on design theory, the findings indicate that integrated designs should possess functional characteristics that align with user behaviour and needs. Principles of interior layout facilitate ease of use by allocating space effectively. Moreover, designs should take human proportions into account. Distinctive colours can successfully convey a clear spatial identity, ensuring a customer-friendly environment. Materials utilized should prioritize safety and durability. Incorporating architectural motifs proves to be an effective way of conveying spatial meaning. Additionally, the result of tourists' perceptions of the physical environment design indicates the successful, effective communication of spatial identity in Chanthaburi Province, signifying an excellent level of communication and indicating that the design has effectively communicated Chanthaburi's spatial identity to a remarkable degree.

    Using inquiry-based learning to explore respect of cultural base design: A case study in amphawa tourism community, Thailand

    Amphawa is a Thai valuable cultural heritage. This cultural tourism has been amplified thanks to the UNESCO award. Despite the recognition, there exists a conflict as seen obviously in the town development by cross-cultural designers. This research focuses on establishment of a proper learning model. Qualitative research was undertaken using a tool namely Ethnographic Delphi Futures Research. The results found that the method of Inquiry-Based Learning significantly made learners gain insights because of the direct interactions with the community stakeholders who truly take part in reaching the consensus which improved consistency of the design works to preserve the cultural identity.
