Item type:Publication, Small scale method for estimation of genetic coefficients of photoperiod-insensitive rice using generalized likelihood uncertainty estimation(2023-03-01) ;Suanphrom, Nattawut; Importance of the work: Genetic coefficients are important parameters for simulations of rice yield performance in crop growth models. Most genetic coefficients (GCs) are obtained from large experiments. Objectives: To estimate the GCs of seven photoperiod-insensitive rice cultivars for four planting dates in a pot experiment. Materials & Methods: Input data (soil, weather, management, plant parameters) were collected and used to calibrate the GCs of seven rice cultivars using the GLUE estimator in the DSSAT version 4.7 package. The data were collected from four planting dates: 1) 23 Nov 2019; 2) 23 Dec 2019; 3) 23 Jan 2020; and 4) 23 Feb 2020. The data from planting dates 1, 3 and 4 were used for calibration of the GCs, whereas the data from planting date 2 were used for evaluation of the GCs. Results: Good prediction qualities of the model for most cultivars were indicated for days to anthesis and days to physiological maturity; however, there were poor prediction qualities for almost all cultivars for their biomass and grain weight. Main finding: This information should be useful for further investigations of GCs in rice. Although the results were contrary to the initial hypothesis, the method showed promise for further use in rice modeling research if the method can be improved by experimental management, the use of suitable reference plants for each cultivar and running the model for an appropriate cycle. It was possible to obtain some reliable GCs from small-scale experiments, so the experiment should be improved to obtain better results. Further investigations should focus on the optimum scale and weather data specific to experimental sites. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Total soluble solids, dry matter content prediction and maturity stage classification of durian fruit using long-wavelength NIR reflectance(2023-12-01) ;Saenphon, Chirawan ;Ditcharoen, Sirirak ;Malai, Chayuttapong ;Saengprachatanarug, KhwantriWongpichet, SereeThe DM and TSS of durian pulp moving on a conveyor belt were measured for their rapid and non-destructive qualities based on quantitative and qualitative measurements. The calibration set and prediction set equaled 209 and 69 pulps, respectively. The quantitative test compared the performance of PLS regression for DM and TSS prediction developed from full wavelength (860–1754 nm) and a few significant variables using SPA, GA, and VIP methods. The qualitative test identified the possibility of maturity stage classification by comparing three supervised machine learning classifiers, namely SVM, random forest (RF), and LDA. Effective models for DM and TSS prediction were developed from second derivatives spectra combined with the GA method, exhibiting r<sup>2</sup>, SEP, and RPD of 0.85, 4.50%, and 2.64, respectively for DM, and 0.66, 5.15%, and 1.60, respectively, for TSS. The model classifying samples into two distinct groups, namely “reject” and “pass,” utilizing the LDA algorithm, exhibited an impressive accuracy rate of 94.20%, making it a suitable choice for quality assurance purposes. This result indicates that the few effective variables were more efficient than full wavelength and improved model accuracy with greater model stability. Item type:Publication, Classification of N, P, and K concentrations in durian (Durio zibethinus murray cv. mon thong) leaves using near-infrared spectroscopy(2022-08-24); ;Jaisue, Natthapon ;Tawinteung, Nukoon; A good durian fruit should be supported by sufficient nutrient concentrations. If farmers can quickly determine the nutrient concentration in leaves, they can control fertilisation. Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is a rapid non-destructive test for estimating nutrient concentration. Measuring nutrient concentrations requires chemical analysis and is a time-consuming process. The aim of this paper is a preliminary test for classifying the N, P, and K concentration levels to determine the possibility of creating models in the future to help farmers obtain information on durian tree nutrient requirements quickly. The models reported in this paper were created by PLS-DA, which had higher accuracy than SVM and the SIMCA method. Fresh durian leaf samples were used, and the spectra provided greater accuracy than the dried ground leaf sample spectra. The classification models had an accuracy of 88.89, 81.25, and 86.36% for predicting N, P, and K, respectively. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The roles of calcium lactate on bruised damage in papaya fruit(2018-11-01); Siriphanich, J.Bruise damage reduces postharvest quality and it was rejected by consumer. Lack detail about bruise mechanism reported in papaya fruit, the prevention and reduction of postharvest loss were limited. The tissue softening as a result in the change of cell wall solubility and depolymerization including changes in physical properties were following bruise damaged. The maintaining cell wall integrity by calcium lactate application before bruising was tested. Papaya fruits were non-dipped or dipped in 2% calcium lactate solution at 55°C for 5 minutes, then air dried at room temperature for 1 hour. Two groups of fruit sample were separated; one group was impacted from height level at 75 cm while the other was nonimpacted. The result showed that bruise treatment reduced skin lightness, chroma and hue angle especially in 'Khak dam' papaya, but could maintain by calcium lactate application. This treatment also preserved the reduction of fruit firmness by 4 days concomitant with the solubilization of pectin during bruising was reduced by calcium lactate treatment. Water-, Na <inf>2</inf> CO <inf>3</inf> - and potassium hydroxide-soluble fraction were low in calcium lactate treatment both with and without bruise damage. Non-significant different between non-dipped and dipped in calcium lactate in TSS, skin color development and fresh weight loss in bruise treatment. However, calcium lactate treatment reduced the increase in bruise area of 20 and 10% in 'Khak dam' and 'Holland' papaya, respectively. Fruit decay incidence was 5% low in fruit treated with calcium lactate following bruise damage than non-dipped. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Rapid evaluation of the texture properties of melon (Cucumis melo L. Var. reticulata cv. Green net) using near infrared spectroscopy(2018-08-01); The near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy as the rapid nondestructive method was aimed to be applied for determination of the texture properties of melon intact fruit and pulp including initial firmness, rupture force, average firmness, rupture distance, toughness, average penetrating force and penetrating energy. The data from the reference method of texture analyzer were correlated with the NIR spectral data. The result showed that, only the two properties including rupture force and penetrating force in pulp could be predicted by NIR spectroscopy technique. The determination coefficient of validation (r<sup>2</sup>) for prediction of rupture force and penetrating force in the pulp of melon using intact fruit spectra were 0.850 and 0.845, respectively. The r<sup>2</sup>, for prediction of rupture force and penetrating force in the pulp of melon using pulp spectra were 0.813 and 0.778, respectively. This indicated that the NIR spectroscopy protocol developed here was useful for research works such as breeding and postharvest research, the melon processing factory and also the import and export of melon. Practical applications: The near infrared spectroscopy protocol developed for determination of rupture force and penetrating force in pulp using intact fruit spectra as a nondestructive method will be useful for research works such as breeding and postharvest research, the melon processing factory and also the import and export of melon. Item type:Publication, Primary assessment of macronutrients in durian (CV Monthong) leaves using near infrared spectroscopy with wavelength selection(2024-01-05); ;Jaisue, Natthapon ;Worphet, Akarawhat ;Tawinteung, NukoonFarmers would be able to regulate fertilization and produce quality durian if they knew the nutrient concentration in durian leaves. A long period of time for traditional nutritional content determination is needed. Therefore, near-infrared spectroscopy is a good method for nondestructive and quick nutrient content evaluation. The leaf sample matrices (fresh leaves, dried ground leaves, and dried ground leaf pellets) were scanned by Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) with a wavelength of 12,500–3,600 cm<sup>−1</sup>. Regression models were developed using partial least squares (PLS) with full wavelength, short wavelength, and selected wavelength by successive projections algorithm (SPA). In this study, the model for N and K concentration was acceptable and the prediction was considered good but for P content not had succeeded. As a result, the PLS-SPA model using fresh leaf samples for evaluating N content in durian leaves exhibited performance of r<sup>2</sup> = 0.852, SEP = 0.14%, RPD = 2.63 and bias = −0.020%. The PLS-SPA model using dried ground leaf samples for evaluating K content in durian leaves exhibited performance of r<sup>2</sup> = 0.820, SEP = 0.13%, RPD = 2.36 and bias = 0.006%. This research found that it is possible to apply NIR waves to predict N and K concentrations in durian leaves. It is not necessary to predict directly from the wavelengths associated with -N or -K bonds. Instead, NIR can measure them indirectly from the bonding of proteins, which are products formed by N and K. In addition, selecting the wavelength that is related to the value to be measured can produce results that are not significantly different from using full or short wavelengths. These models can assist farmers in rapidly predicting N and K content in durian leaves for immediate fertilizer adjustment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effects of insecticidal essential oil fumigations on physiological changes in cut Dendrobium sonia orchid flower(2015-09-01) ;Pumnuan, Jarongsak; Insung, AmmornThis study investigated essential oil (EO) formulas with high insecticidal properties, but low physiological impacts on cut Dendrobium Sonia orchid flower. Fumigation toxicities of EOs from 18 medicinal plants at 2.0 and 3.0 μl/L air were examined against adults of thrips (Frankliniella schultzei) and larvae of mealybug (Pseudococcus jackbeardsleyi). The effective EO mixtures, optimal concentrations fumigation and air circulation periods were investigated. Then, field experiments were conducted, and changes in L*, a* and b* values, percentages of weight loss and anthocyanin contents of the EO-fumigated flower were observed and compared to the methyl bromide and control fumigations. The results showed that clove and cinnamon demonstrated high insecticidal properties against the insects (>85% mortality) and low physiological changes in the flower. In particular, fumigations with 2.0 μl/L air of a mixture between clove and cinnamon EOs (1:3) for 3 hr with 15- min air circulation demonstrated the highest thrips and mealybug mortalities (92.2 and 74.6%, respectively). The EO fumigation formula presented less impact on color change and anthocyanin content than methyl bromide fumigation which showed higher reduction of anthocyanin content (22.9 mg/100g FW) when compared to the control (13.6 mg/100g FW). The percentages of weight loss in the flower fumigated with EO, control and methyl bromide were about 10.4, 7.9 and 14.8%, respectively. In general, applications of EO at higher concentrations resulted in higher insect mortalities and more impacts on physiological changes which involved anthocyanin degradation and higher percentages of weight loss. Further studies might consider applications of clove and cinnamon EO formulas via other methods. In addition, revisions of the EO mixture can also be examined in order to obtain the most effective and environment friendly insect management approach. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Production Performance and Adoption Opinion Toward Wet and Dry Farming of GAP and Non-GAP Farmers in Suburban Bangkok, ThailandTechnology adoption requires technical information to support decision-making and encourage broader acceptance. Recognizing the significance of alternate wetting and drying technology in sustainable agriculture, this study aims to promote the adoption of this technology among both Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and non-GAP farmers in Suburban, Bangkok, Thailand. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire, which gathered information on farmers' cost and return values, as well as their adoption opinions. The collected data were then analyzed using cost and return analysis, as well as stochastic frontier analysis. The results indicate that non-GAP farmers face significantly higher total costs due to increased fixed costs compared to GAP farmers. While there were no significant differences in yield between the two groups, GAP farmers achieved significantly higher total income and net profit due to lower total costs and higher selling prices. Furthermore, the analysis suggests that both groups of rice farmers have the potential to improve their efficiency levels, with non-GAP farmers showing a higher potential for improvement. In terms of adoption opinion, both farmer groups recognize the advantages of wet and dry farming technology over traditional flooded rice farming. This study highlights that the adoption levels of both GAP and non-GAP farmers can be significantly improved through the implementation of best management practices. Overall, the findings emphasize the importance of trustworthy information dissemination to encourage the adoption of wet and dry farming technology, as it enhances farmers' trust in the received information and their engagement with the technology. The study concludes by providing policy implications and recommendations to promote the wider adoption of wet and dry farming technology. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Insecticidal activity of essential oil formulas and their physiological effects on eggplant(2017-05-01) ;Pumnuan, Jarongsak; Insung, AmmornThis study examined fumigation toxicity of 18 medicinal plant essential oils (EOs) against adult of aphid (Aphid gossypii) and whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). Then, non-target effects of the EO mixtures on physiological changes of eggplant (Solanum melongena) were tested. The insecticidal property and physiological toxicity of the fumigation formulas were also examined and compared to methyl bromide (MB) fumigation. The results showed that the eggplant fumigated with clove (Syzygium aromaticum) and lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus) EOs mixture at the ratio of 1:3 (Cl1Le3) showed no significant physiological changes when compared to the control treatment. The formula resulted in similarly high mortalities (82-100%) of both insects when compared to MB. However, MB fumigation caused complete senescence appeared before day 3 observations. On the contrary, the eggplant fumigated with Cl1Le3 at 3 μL/L air showed no differences in the physiological changes when compared to the control throughout the 9-day examinations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Currently, farmers apply various fertilisers to produce a large quantity and quality of durian fruit, irrespective of the actual nutrients that the plant requires. Accordingly, the production cost is high and non-renewable resources. Therefore, this study focused on rapid classification primary macronutrient levels in durian (Durio zibethinus Murray CV. Mon Thong) leaves using Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy and investigated the effect of imbalanced data on efficient classification models. Contents of N, P, and K in durian leaves were measured via NIR with the wavelength range of 800–2,500 nm. Classification models were developed using partial least squares, k-nearest neighbour, and artificial neural networks (ANNs) with imbalanced and balanced data. The imbalanced data were balanced using a synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE). In this study, the model regarding the fresh leaf sample performed better than that for the dried ground leaf sample. Moreover, the ANN was the best algorithm, exhibiting validation accuracies of classified levels corresponding to N = 0.99 and P = 0.97 when the data were analysed with SMOTE and K = 1.00 from the original balanced data. The imbalanced data affected biased classification when the models could increase the classification accuracy by applying balanced data for modelling.
