    Meta-analysis of dietary supplementation with hemp products (Cannabis sativa L.) in broiler chicken: performances, blood profiles, intestinal morphology, and meat physicochemical parameters

    The results showed that dietary hemp products reduced plasma triglycerides (SMD = - 2.263; P < 0.01), cholesterol (SMD = -1.239; P < 0.05), and low-density lipoprotein (SMD = - 5.711; P < 0.01), whereas the plasma high-density lipoprotein (SMD = 3.193; P < 0.01) and jejunal villus height (SMD = 4.536; P < 0.01) were increased. However, broiler performances (average daily feed intake, body weight, feed conversion ratio) and meat physicochemical parameters (pH, lightness, redness, yellowness, crude protein, and ether extract) were not significantly affected. Therefore, the study indicated that dietary hemp products in broiler chicken could improve blood profiles and gut health, suggesting their potential as an alternative feedstuff in broiler production.

    Effects of heart fatty acid biding protein (H-FABP) gene, housing system and sex on carcass and meat quality of commercial crossbred pigs

    The results showed three H-FABP HaeIII genotypes (DD, Dd, and dd), three H-FABP MspI genotypes (AA, Aa, and aa) and the H-FABP HinfI (HH). The allele Frequency of HaeIII, MspI and HinfI polymorphism were shown as follows: D=0.55 and d=0.45; A=0.68 and a=0.32, while H=1. There was no effect (p> 0.5) of H-FABP genotypes on carcass quality. It was shown that no significant effect of H-FABP genotypes on meat quality traits T<inf>1</inf>, T<inf>24</inf>, pH<inf>1</inf>, color (L, a*, b*), and drip loss. However, it was found that the pH<inf>24</inf> of both genotypes Dd and dd had lower than genotype DD. Similarly, the pH<inf>24</inf> of both genotypes Aa and aa had lower than AA. Whereas sex (gilts and barrows), gilts had muscle temperature which lower than the barrows. The pH<inf>1</inf> of the carcasses from closed house had lower than those in opened house. Whereas, the pH<inf>24</inf> of the carcasses from opened house had lower than those in closed house.

    Effects of Host-Specific Multi-Lactic Acid Bacterial Probiotics on Performance, Carcass Traits, Meat Quality, and Gut Microbiome in Fattening Pigs

    This study evaluated the effects of a host-specific multi-lactic acid bacterial (MLAB) probiotic and sex on performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and gut microbiota in fattening pigs. Thirty-two crossbred pigs (10 ± 0.80 weeks; 23.43 ± 0.17 kg) were assigned to a 2 × 2 factorial design with diet (control or MLAB probiotics) and sex (barrow or female). The MLAB supplement consisted of seven lactic acid bacterial strains mixed in equal proportions (≈14.3% each)—Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus reuteri, Weissella cibaria, Lactobacillus paraplantarum, Lactococcus lactis, Lactobacillus pentosus, and Pediococcus pentosaceus—administered at 1 × 10<sup>9</sup> CFU/kg feed for 12 weeks. MLAB probiotic supplementation reduced bone proportion while increasing skin and fat content (p < 0.05), with a treatment × sex interaction for loin eye area (p < 0.05). Meat quality improved in the MLAB group, showing higher ultimate pH and lower cooking loss (p < 0.05), indicating improved water-holding capacity. Female pigs exhibited higher early postmortem pH and protein content (p < 0.05). Microbiome analysis revealed increased abundances of Oxalobacteraceae and Paludibacteraceae and reduced Clostridium sensu stricto 6 (p < 0.05). These results suggest that host-adapted probiotics may support gut microbial balance and improve certain pork quality traits.

    Effects of Dietary Crude Glycerol Supplementation on Performance, Egg Quality, and Yolk Fatty Acids in Laying Hens: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    This study evaluated the effects of dietary crude glycerol supplementation on laying performance, egg quality traits, and egg yolk fatty acid composition in laying hens. A systematic search of peer-reviewed literature from major scientific databases identified thirteen eligible studies. Effect sizes were calculated as mean differences using random-effects models, and subgroup and meta-regression analyses were conducted to assess the influence of inclusion level, hen age, strain, and dose–response relationships. Moderate inclusion of crude glycerol (≤4%) significantly increased egg production (MD = +0.71 percentage points; p = 0.019) and egg mass (MD = +1.08 g; p = 0.007). External egg quality traits, including shell thickness, shell breaking strength, and shell percentage, were not significantly affected, while albumen height decreased slightly (MD = −0.14 mm; p = 0.004) and Haugh unit remained unchanged. Crude glycerol supplementation also increased linoleic acid, total unsaturated fatty acids, and total polyunsaturated fatty acids (p < 0.001). Responses varied with inclusion level, hen age, and strain, and a positive dose–response relationship between crude glycerol level and yolk linoleic acid was observed in white-egg strains. Overall, moderate crude glycerol inclusion can partially replace conventional dietary energy sources with minimal adverse effects on egg quality.

    Effect of supplemented liquid pigments in the diet on growth performance and body skin color of Jewel cichlid (Hemichromis lifalili) fish

    The weight, average daily gain (ADG), and body skin color values of Jewel cichlid (Hemichromis lifalili) fish were measured on the 0, 30, 60, and 75 days of the experiment. The fish received liquid feed for the first 60 days and no supplementary feed from day 61 to 75. The body weight and ADG of fish raised for 0-30, 0-60, and 0-75 days was not statistically significant differences (p<0.05). However, it was found that fish fed with the supplemented different pigments had different L* and a* values at each stage of the experiment, i.e. when fish were fed with diets containing natural capsanthin and synthetic astaxanthin for 60 days, the L* and a* color values were higher than those of the other groups. The L*, and a* values were lowered after the liquid pigments supplementation was withdrawn.
