    The effective numerical aperture calculation in two-dimensional Photonic crystal waveguide has been proposed. In this paper we present the analysis of ray optics refracted inside nano rods and at the boundaries between rods, which separates rod gap is much smaller than the incident wavelength assumed to reflect on the region. In operation, the resolving numerical aperture was compared with the finite difference time domain method via OptiFDTD software. Although numerical aperture mentioned above was found to be extremely close to fiber optics, a transmission passes though compartments of the rods are observed due to significant estimation of transmission and reflection of electric field. The compared simulation results will be discussed. By the aforementioned is that in the near future we will modify wave equation in periodic media of waveguide structures reached to the transverse electric equation of beam propagation in the two-dimensional Photonic crystal waveguide analysed. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

    Design and simulation of asymmetric Y-junction beam splitter with controllable splitting based on adjusted air-hole defect
    We report a construction of a new asymmetric Y-junction beam splitter with a controllable splitting ratio and simulate this splitter. The splitter is based on InP, has the area 65.0 µm2 and operates at the light wavelengths 1.48 and 1.55 µm. Under condition of no air-hole defect, the splitting ratio for the output ports 1 and 2 is equal to 92/8 at the both wavelengths. To control the splitting ratio, air-hole defects with different (diamond, square and cylinder) shapes are introduced at the junction between the two output ports. Our simulations confirm that the splitting ratio of the beam splitter can be efficiently controlled by changing the size and the shape of the air-hole defect. The maximal splitting ratios at our operating wavelengths are equal to 10/90 and 14/86 and the appropriate average insertion losses amount to 0.36 and 0.31 dB for all of defect shapes.

    In this investigation, a new design based on a PANDA ring resonator as an optical trapping tool for tangle protein, molecular motor storage, and delivery is proposed. The optical vortices are generated and the trapping mechanism is controlled in the same way as the conventional optical tweezers. The trapping force is produced by a combination of the gradient field and scattering photons. The required molecular volume is trapped and moved dynamically within the molecular network. The tangle protein and molecular motor can be transported and delivered to the required destinations for Alzheimer's diagnosis by molecular buffer and bus network. © 2012 Informa Healthcare USA, Inc.

    We propose a novel system of a nano-waveguide that can be used to generate the continuous optical spectra, i.e. white light. A system consists of two micro and a nanoring resonators that can be integrated into a single system. The large bandwidth signal is generated by using a soliton pulse propagating within a Kerr type nonlinear medium, whereas the continuous bandwidth or wavelength of light signal can be performed. Results obtained have shown the potential of using such system for white light source generation and amplification, which is discussed in detail. The amplified pulse can be stored within a nano-waveguide, which is allowed to form the continuous spectrum after amplification. Alternatively, the low level solar radiation can be amplified, and the bandwidth signals can also be enlarged. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

    Nanoheat source generated by leaky light mode within a nano-waveguide for small electrical power generator
    (2012-12-01) ;
    Yupapin, Preecha P.
    In this paper, we present a novel type of small electrical power generator controlled by the leaky light resonant modes or whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in a nano-waveguide, in which the nanowaveguide is designed and configured to be a nano-ring resonator. By using the Optiwave programming based on Finite Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method, two types of InGaAsP/InP nanoring resonators are designed and simulated, which one is a single nanoring resonator, and the other is the double nanoring resonator. Simulation results obtained have shown that the leaky light resonant modes can be controlled by the ring radii variations, whereas the maximum resonant peak of the single nanoring resonator is observed at the ring radius of 1.55 μm, while the double nanoring resonator is occurred at the inner and outer ring radii of 0.775 μm and 1.55 μm, respectively. The maximum peak intensities of the single nanoring and double resonators are 1150 W/m2 and 2740 W/m 2, respectively. The efficiency of the fabricated generators was calculated, in which the efficiency of a proposed micro turbine engine of 2.4 kJ is noted. Finally, the use of the leaky light mode resonant peak of the center nanoring resonator for nanoelectrical power generator is discussed in details. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

    AlN and Ag thin films were deposited independently on the Si(100) wafers and glass slides by sputtering technique at various times to find the optimum deposition times for coating AlN and Ag films layers. The results obtained from glazing-incident X-ray diffraction (GIXRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and transmittance measurements showed that the optimum deposition time for coating AlN and Ag film layers were 40 min and 15 s corresponding to the film thickness of 46.7 and 19.6 nm, respectively. The optimum deposition times were used for coating AlN and Ag films in the multilayer AlN/Ag/AlN film stack. Then, the multilayer AlN/Ag/AlN film stack was deposited on the glass slide for transmittance measurement and a test glass plate with a size of 10 cm x 10 cm for infrared protection testing. The average solar transmittances in the visible range (λ = 380-780 nm) and in the near infrared range (λ = 780-2,000 nm) were found to be 48.05 and 15.17%, respectively which are comparable with those of a commercial glass.

    In this paper, we present an electronic nose ammonia gas monitoring via IoT system for Chlorella sp. cultivation. The MQ–137 gas sensor module is selected as the primary sensor for measuring ammonia gas concentration. The pH sensor module is the sensor for measuring the pH levels in Chlorella sp. ponds. The MQ–137 gas sensors are calibrated with a known concentration of ammonia gas in the calibration box. Calibration conditions are set corresponding to low concentration of ammonia gas produced by Chlorella sp. cultivation. The pH sensor module is calibrated against a standard pH buffer. The calibration data obtained from the calibration method is input into computer programming and processed by the ESP8266 microprocessor. After calibration, the MQ–137 gas sensor and pH sensor modules are used to measure the ammonia gas concentration and pH levels in the Chlorella sp. ponds. Chlorella sp. is cultivated under three conditions of light intensity, natural light with an average light intensity of 1521 Lux, and artificial light with a light intensity of 1000 Lux and 2000 Lux, respectively. The ammonia gas concentration and pH levels of Chlorella sp. cultivation are transferred to the cloud system and displayed via the IoT system. And the system can also send a notification to a smartphone when ammonia gas concentration and the pH levels reach the specified value.

    We propose a novel design for high-power laser source generation using a Gaussian pulse propagating within an embedded optical device system. The system consists of a non-linear microring resonator and an add-drop filter. In principle, a Gaussian laser pulse with a specified center wavelength ranging from 0.40 to 1.50 μm is fed into the designed system. By using suitable ring parameters, the required output at the specific center wavelength and power can be obtained by controlling the coupling coefficients of the add-drop filter. The power outputs for different center wavelengths were generated, for instance, 0.8, 1.3, 1.5 μm, which can be used to form suitable operating wavelengths for various applications, such as laser guns, swords and medical tools'. © 2011 The Society for Modeling and Simulation International.

    This study presents the development of an Internet of Things-based RGB LED lighting system for precise, flexible light control in hydroponic plants. The system consists of 480 high-power RGB LEDs controlled by an ESP8266 microcontroller, enabling real-time adjustment of light intensity, photoperiod, and color ratios via a smartphone. Pulse-width modulation duty-cycle modulation enables the generation of white light suitable for different stages of plant growth. Experimental results show a linear correlation between illuminance and duty cycle for all color channels. Spectral analysis confirms stable emission within the photosynthetically active radiation range (400–700 nm), with the spectral composition remaining unchanged even when brightness is reduced (dimming). The system demonstrates high control accuracy and adaptability for regulating plant growth lighting, particularly for leafy vegetables such as lettuce.

    We propose a new concept of a cold atom generation using a tiny optical device system. A system consists of a multi-stage nonlinear micro-ring system incorporating an add/drop filter, which the storage unit can be formed the fast tweezers and the cold atom concept presented. In operation, the optical tweezers can be generated by using a Gaussian pulse input into the microring system, where the amplified and tuned optical tweezers using a light pulse propagating within an add/drop filter. By using the suitable parameters such as ring radii, effective areas, coupling coefficients and refractive indices, an atom/particle can be trapped by the specific optical tweezers and propagating within a storage ring. Results obtained have shown that the fast tweezers time is approached the negligible value, where the terms of time independent motion of atom/particle can be performed by using the fast tweezers, and the cold atom concept is obtained. In application, such a technique can be used to form the similar manner for molecule, DNA, photon, or Ion, where the memory unit of them can be formed, which will be available for a hybrid memory or computer in the near future.
