Item type:Publication, The Experiment of Partial Discharge testing for Low Voltage Motor(2025-01-01) ;Sawangsri, Jaturaphat; ;Pathanrat, Khomsan ;Ruangwong, KhomsanJeenmuang, SiwakornLow-voltage (LV) motors are widely used and highly popular in industrial settings due to their critical role in production processes. Any malfunction or failure of an LV motor can lead to production downtime, resulting in reduced output and potential revenue loss. Therefore, it is essential to conduct diagnostic assessments that evaluate the reliability of the insulation system in LV motors. Partial Discharge (PD) testing is recognized as a highly effective and reliable method for assessing the condition of motor insulation. This paper presents PD testing on LV motors to investigate the behavior of partial discharges using multiple analysis techniques. Additionally, an acoustic camera is integrated into the testing process to accurately identify the discharge locations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Dissolved Gas Analysis of Palm Oil Compared with Mineral Oil from Different Types of Breakdown Voltage(2020-10-25) ;Suksagoolpanya, Suthat ;Jongvilaikasem, Korraya ;Jariyanurat, Kitipod ;Banthoengjai, ThanpilinJeenmuang, SiwakornNatural products are required instead of chemical materials for saving the environment. Nowadays, the palm oil is a new alternative liquid insulation that may be used in a transformer. Normally, the characteristics of liquid insulation can be investigated and analyzed by various methods. One of the diagnosis methods widely used is a dissolved gas analysis technique (DGA). The propose of this paper is to study the interpretation of dissolved gases in the palm oil compared with that of in the mineral oil which is caused by different kinds of breakdown phenomena, i.e. AC breakdown, positive lightning impulse breakdown, and negative lightning impulse breakdown. An AC breakdown voltage test according to IEC 60156 was performed by using 3 difference gap spacing which were 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mm. For lightning impulse tests, the test cell was contained needle-sphere electrodes with 10, 15, and 20 mm gap different spacing. The lightning impulse tests were performed in accordance with IEC 60897. Each experiment was performed for 5, 10, and 15 times. For a material preparation, the mineral oil and the palm oil was heated at 80oC for 12 hours. Then, it was naturally cooled before filling into the test cell to perform AC and lightning impulse breakdown tests. After that, the mineral oil and the palm oil was sampled out of the test cell to perform the DGA experiment. The dissolved gases from the mineral oil and the palm oil were interpreted by applying IEC and IEEE gas interpretation techniques. It was found that the breakdown voltages of the palm oil were less than the mineral oil but the palm oil generates more dissolved gases than the mineral oil. Moreover, Duval pentagon for natural ester fluid seemed to be the most suitable method to interpret dissolved gases in the palm oil compared with the IEC ratio, Doernenburg ratio, Roger ratio, and Duval triangle. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Comparison of Voltage-time to Surface Failure of Various Insulation Material for Space Aerial Cables(2016-01-01) ;Krirapee, Sathit ;Potivejkul, SiriwatThis paper aims to represents the investigation of surface tracking resistance of various types of cable insulations. Five kinds of cable material i.e. non carbon filled crosslink polyethylene (XLPE), carbon filled XLPE, low density polyethylene (LDPE), medium density polyethylene (MDPE), and high density polyethylene (HDPE) were examined. The test specimen has a dimension of 10 mm in width, 50.8 mm in length and 1.52 mm in thickness. The test samples were classified into two groups for investigation. The former group was the new test samples, whereas the latter test samples were stressed by thermal ageing with 120oC for 168 hours. Then both specimens were examined. One side of the specimen was contacted with high voltage electrode terminal made of 1 mm diameter Nichrome wire. Another side of the test specimen was dipped into 0.1 percent solution of ammonium chloride as grounded electrode. The spacing between electrodes at dry area was determined for 25.4 mm. After completion of the test set up, AC high voltage was applied to the test specimen. The dip rate of the specimen into the solution was set up as 4 times per minute. The test voltage level was in the range of 1-3.5 kV. The experiment was performed in accordance with ICEA S-66-524 (Method B). The test voltage was applied to the test specimen until the insulation failure could be observed. Then, the insulation failure voltage and failure time were recorded. The test results illustrated that both unaged and aged HDPE and non carbon filled XLPE provided the higher surface tracking resistance than carbon filled XLPE, LDPE and MDPE respectively. Besides, the thermal stress aging had not much effect on the surface tracking resistance characteristic of tested material. It can be summarized that the material structure much more influenced the surface tracking characteristic of the cable material. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Dielectric analysis of degraded stator bars of a hydro generator(2022-04-01); ;Phumipunepon, Natnaree ;Srinangyam, Chissanupong ;Jeenmuang, SiwakornThis paper presents the investigation of dielectric analysis of degraded stator bars by Polarization and Depolarization Current (PDC) measurement. The stator bars obtained from the 30-year in-service synchronous machine were divided into two groups. The first group was the unmodified stator bars. The second group was the simulated degradation stator bars which were composed of the thermal stress stator bars, conductive tap abrasion stator bars, multiple air cavity stator bars, multiple oil filled stator bars and multiple water filled stator bars. PDC test experiment was performed with the stator bar samples. PDC test results were analyzed in time domain and in frequency domain with the derived parameters i.e. R<inf>dc</inf>, real and imaginary part of complex capacitance, C ratio, conduction loss factor and polarization loss factor. It was found that PDC shapes obtained from the conductive tape abrasion stator bar and multiple water filled cavity stator bar were clearly different from that of the unmodified stator bar. For other case studies, the derived parameters showed the usefulness in analysis the degraded stator bar characteristics. For example, the increase in the imaginary capacitance and conduction loss factor can be observed from most cases of degraded stator bar test results. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Localisation of Partial Discharge in Power Cables Through Multi-Output Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network and Feature Extraction(2023-02-01) ;Yeo, Joel ;Jin, Huifei ;Mor, Armando Rodrigo ;Yuen, ChauThis paper proposes an algorithmic approach constructed from a convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN) iterated with examination of extracted features for partial discharge (PD) localisation; tests were conducted offline on medium voltage (MV) power cables. To evaluate the performance of the algorithm, a case study was performed on 7 cables deliberately selected to comprehensively illustrate the difficulties encountered in field testing. The experimental test results prove that the proposed concept is able to identify and localise discharges besmirched with significant quantities of noise. Main contribution of the methodology is the successful automated interpretation of measurements acquired under noisy challenging field constraints. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Computer aided-program for validation of measuring system from unit step response by time convolution method(2005-01-01); ; ; Phoomvuthisarn, S.This paper presents the design and development of the computer algorithm based on LabVIEW for verification of a high voltage measuring system. The algorithm consists of two parts. The first part is a program for calculating the parameters of unit step responses which are verified an ability of the measuring system by a comparison with the values given in IEC 60060-2. The second part is a program for calculating the output voltage waveform by time convolutions between standard testing waveforms and unit step responses. The standard waveforms under investigation are full lightning impulse voltage waveforms, tail-chopped lightning impulse voltage waveforms, front-chopped lightning impulse voltage waveforms and steep-front voltage waveforms according to IEC standards 60060-2 and 61211. This paper considers two different types of the measuring systems, with a resistive voltage divider and a damped capacitive voltage divider for testings. The results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper is practicable, and should be a useful tool for impulse voltage measurements in a standard high voltage laboratory. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Comparison of Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) Between Mineral Oil, Neutural Ester, and Palm Oil With Nano-Particle BaTiO3(2024-01-01) ;Laohapongpan, Triani ;Promphanich, Wiboon ;Boonlaksananusorn, Chanin ;Jeenmuang, SiwakornThe dielectric liquid properties can be improved by adding suitable nano-particles to increase the dielectric and other properties. The BaTiO<inf>3</inf> has been interesting for a decade for use to improve the liquid insulation characteristics. Such nanoparticles were used to mixed with mineral oil, natural ester, and palm oil. This paper focuses on a comparison of mineral oil, natural ester, and palm oil with BaTiO<inf>3</inf> by the Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) technique. Hydrogen (H2), Methane (CH4), Acetylene (C2H2), Ethylene (C2H4), Ethane (C2H6), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO<inf>2</inf>) were mainly considered gases to compare because they are in the gas limitation used to diagnose a transformer problem. This researcher found that palm oil produces the most gas after undergoing thermal stress but its generating trend was better than others because the gas-producing rate decreases at higher temperatures. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Polarization and Depolarization Current Characteristics of Natural Ester Stressed by Partial Discharge(2020-10-25); ;Makmork, Kawee ;Kittikhuntharadol, Yannaphol ;Suksai, NattapatChusang, ThanapatThis paper represents the polarization and depolarization current (PDC) of the natural ester stressed by partial discharge (PD). The needle-plane electrode was used to simulate corona discharge in natural ester. Besides, the needle electrode as a high voltage electrode placed on the 8 hours natural ester impregnated pressboards and the plane electrode as a grounded electrode were used to simulate the surface discharge. To simulate the internal discharge, the plane-plane electrode inserted with various condition impregnated pressboards were experimented. PD phenomena were simulated in the natural ester container for 1, 3, and 6 months. Then the PD-stressed natural ester was used as the liquid specimen for polarization and depolarization current measurement. It was found that the PDC characteristics of natural ester undergone with various PD types were obviously different. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, THE INFLUENCE of NANOPARTICLES on the DIELECTRIC DISSIPATION FACTOR and LIGHTNING PROPERTIES in PALM OIL-BASED NANOFLUIDS(2022-04-01); Muangpratoom, PichaiIn this study, the influence of nanoparticles when mixed with insulating palm oil is investigated in terms of tan δ or the dielectric dissipation factor and lightning properties. Three different nanofluid sample types are derived from the dispersion of zinc oxide (ZnO), titanium dioxide (TiO2) and barium titanate (BaTiO3). The nanoparticle concentrations tested were 0.01% and 0.03% while the base fluid was unmodified palm oil. Evaluation of tan δ was performed in accordance with the IEC 60247 standard via the use of the tan δ meter (model SOKEN: DAC-IM-D6) and the lightning impulse breakdown voltage were based on the IEC 60897 standard. In order to test the electrical insulation qualities of the palm oil over a range of temperatures from 35-90°C for each of the tan δ values revealed the dielectric loss tangent, and the findings lightning properties was performed at the room temperature. Significant increases of the palm oil with nanoparticles in comparison to unmodified palm oil. These results suggested that further investigation would be worthwhile to better understand the effects of the nanoparticles in palm oil upon tan δ and the lightning impulse breakdown voltage characteristics in order to make additional improvements.
