Item type:Publication, Performance evaluation of single-phase PWM AC chopper fed three-phase induction motor(2014-01-01) ;Phiphitsunthon, Benyathip ;Bumroongphuck, Chavaporn ;Promkhun, WatcharinThis paper presents performance evaluation of a single-phase AC chopper fed three phase induction motor. The existing three-phase induction motor connected in delta can be operated with such single-phase voltage controller by connecting a capacitor across one phase. By varying duty cycle of asynchronous PWM generated from a dsPIC microcontroller for a single-phase AC chopper, terminal motor voltage can be adjusted. Performance evaluation in terms of motor input power factor and efficiency has been performed. In addition, comparison between the proposed technique and both fixed voltage of 1-phase sinusoidal ac source and fixed voltage of conventional three-phase ac source is also given. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Partial Discharge Phenomena in Power Capacitor Unit Insulation Under Harmonic Resonance Effects(2020-01-01) ;Boonseng, Chongrag ;Boonseng, Rapeepornpat ;Boonsaner, Nutthaphan; Apiratikul, PromsakThe capacitor in the electrical system for power factor correction is always damaged when under voltage and current waveforms are distorted. There was a test found that the electrical insulation was damaged and destroyed. In order to learn this damage mechanism it requires a non-destructive inspection method. The partial discharge (PD) testing is a method that can detect deterioration and a defect in the electrical insulating material that is not visible. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of harmonic resonance on power capacitor unit insulation. High voltage capacitor units consist of parallel and series connected elements. The rating of element of capacitor units applied in the power system is 6.67 kVAR/Phase, 400 V. Series resonance can lead to high voltage distortion levels at a low voltage side of transformer resulting in high harmonic current in the element of capacitors. The inspection and element of capacitor unit test are used to obtain power system resonance, a standard operating procedure, testing and measurement between phase to ground using the partial discharge model MPD 600 OMICRON, dielectric losses and capacitance model CPC 100 OMICRON. Finally, the scanning electron microscope (SEM) is used. The comparison of results between new element of capacitor and element under harmonic resonance are performed. The results convey that breakdown in insulating of capacitors under harmonic resonance can be used for considering capacitor voltage rating. The failure of insulation an increase in obtained and emphasized by photograph from SEM. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, A New Modulation Strategy for Unbalanced Two Phase Induction Motor Drives Using a Three-Leg Voltage Source Inverter(2005-09-01) ;Sinthusonthishat, S.This paper proposes a new modulation scheme providing unbalanced output terminal voltages of a standard threeleg voltage source inverter (VSI) for unsymmetrical type two-phase induction motors. This strategy allows a control method of the output voltages with typically constant V/Hz for a main winding and with voltage boost to compensate magnitude of current for an auxiliary winding. Harmonic voltage characteristics and the motor performance are investigated under a wide range of operating conditions. Practical verification is presented to confirm correctness and capabilities of the proposed technique. All results are compared to those of a conventional two-leg half bridge topology. The results show that the simulation results well agree with the experimental ones, and also the proposed scheme is superior to the conventional drive. © 2005, The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Item type:Publication, Active power control of single-phase grid-connected system supplying nonlinear load(2013-12-01) ;Liengpradis, P.This paper presents active power control or real power of single-phase grid-connected system supplying nonlinear load. The control method employs the reference current calculation combining the required real component of the grid current derived from required active power transfer to the grid and required harmonic current for harmonic elimination associated with the nonlinear load. With this method, power of any type of renewable energy can be transferred to the nonlinear load and the grid, the grid current is nearly sinusoidal, the reactive power of the nonlinear load can be compensated and the power factor is always nearly unity. The simulation results verify the correctness of operation for the proposed functions using MATLAB/Simulink. © 2013 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, PV powered three-leg VSI fed asymmetrical parameter type two-phase induction motor(2014-01-01) ;Hayakwong, EkkawidUtilization of renewable energy has increased spectacularly in recent years, with the high energy demand and fast decaying of fossil fuels. Renewable energy, especially solar energy has been the power choice for many applications such as solar powered induction motor drive. For that reason, this paper aims to propose an open loop speed control method for achieving high performance over a wide range of operating speeds. The proposed induction motor drives are supplied by a solar power system which consists of two-stages of power conversion; DC-DC boost converter with maximum power point tracker (MPPT) for the first stage and DC-AC three-leg voltage source inverter supplying a two-phase induction motor load for the second stage. A modulation strategy is developed to supply unbalanced two-phase output voltage based on the carrier-based space vector PWM (SVPWM) with open-loop V/F control. The performance characteristics of the induction motor with the proposed method are determined by two modulation strategies namely balanced and unbalanced SVPWM. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation results. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Mathematical Model of Wind Turbine Simulator Based Five Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator Supplying Non-Linear Loads(2023-01-01) ;Meesuk, PeerawatThis paper propose the mathematical model simulation of a wind turbine power generation system using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The 5-phase synchronous permanent magnet generator is a device that converts mechanical energy from wind turbines into electrical energy. The electrical power is passed through a non-linear load as a rectifier using 10 diodes per 5-phase for further conduction through the inverter and grid connection. The simulation results show the voltage output from the generator in all 5 phases, the rotor speed, stator current, and electromagnetic torque. When adjusting the speed according to the characteristics of the wind that is fed to the wind turbine, the rotor speed is adjusted. Stator current, torque and voltage also change. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Harmonics, power factor correction and transient overvoltage analysis in a stainless steel cold rolling mill plant system caused by voltage sags(1999-01-01) ;Boonseng, C.; ;Koykul, W. ;Payakkaruang, S.Chikinee, M.This paper presents guidelines for analyzing harmonics, power factor correction and transient overvoltage in a stainless steel cold rolling plant using sendzimir cold rolling mill process. This rolling loads operate at a wide range variation of power factors and reactive power that results in penalty to charges and bus voltages variation. In addition, the nonlinear characteristics of the rolling mill drives cause significant harmonic currents flowing through the plant and utility power system. These harmonic currents result in system voltage distortion and power loss in the system. The measurement of voltage and current auto reclosing supply voltage during power line disturbances has been performed. Voltage sag and short interruption occurrence often exist in such case study. The extended analysis of results may lead to identify problems and possible correction measures.
