Item type:Publication, Hybrid Posi cast - based PID - PDA Control Using System Identification for Continuous Tunnel Kilns(2026-06-30); ;Sungsorn, Teenapong ;Trisuwannawat, Thanit; This paper proposes a hybrid Posicast-based proportional-integral-derivative with proportional-derivative-acceleration (PID-PDA) controller for temperature regulation in delay-dominant continuous tunnel kilns. The controller is developed based on a system-identified second-order-plus-dead-time (SOPDT) model derived from industrial data and implemented in discrete time for programmable logic controllers (PLCs). A unified framework enables comparison with a standard PLC-based proportional-integral (PI) controller, an internal model control (IMC)-tuned PI controller, and a Smith Predictor-PI controller under identical conditions. Simulation results demonstrate faster response, negligible overshoot, and reduced tracking error, with improved settling time and lower, integral of absolute error (IAE), integral of squared error (ISE), and integral of time-weighted absolute error (ITAE), while maintaining comparable control effort. Robustness analysis confirms stable performance under plant perturbations, with IAE variations within approximately ± 10 (servo) and ± 1 (disturbance). The controller is validated on an Allen-Bradley PLC in a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR)-based heating system. Experimental results show improved steady-state performance, including reduced bias, lower mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean squared error (RMSE), reduced oscillation amplitude, and compliance within the ± 1 temperature band. The proposed approach provides a practical, robust, and high-performance solution for upgrading existing PLC-based systems without hardware modifications. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Development of Remote Laboratory for Feedback Control System Class(2021-01-01); ; This research presents a low cost web-based remote laboratory system for a feedback control system class. The system is created by an inexpensive single-board computer (Raspberry Pi 3B+) as laboratory server, an edge of extinct Lego Mindstorms set as a controlled plant, and an IP camera system. The laboratory server based on Ubuntu, which is a free and open-source software and the web application is written with JavaScript based on a MEAN stack platform. The proposed laboratory is used for verifying a design project of the angle control system using Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Wincc-based process simulation for virtual commissioning of scada system integration(2020-01-01); ;Tantaweenulak, AdisakIn order to provide possibility for system integrators to verify the correctness and effectiveness of functions of a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system before on-site installation and actual commissioning, this paper presents a process simulation based on software-in-the-loop technique by using VBScript in WinCC for virtual commissioning. Design of integrating an existing control loop in water tank process of pharmaceutical manufacturing plant into a new SCADA is used as a case study. The interested process, which consists of inlet water pump, inlet control valve, level transmitter, and outlet water pump, is controlled by proportional-integral-derivative (PID) algorithm in a programmable logic controller (PLC) to maintain hydrostatic pressure in the water tank. Operations of the simulated process can be controlled in either manual mode or automatic mode. Moreover, the proposed simulation provides an option to imitate device failures that could not be done in real process due to damages for ensuring SCADA fault notification based on failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA). Experimental results of using the proposed process simulation for testing whether the created human machine interface (HMI) screens of the SCADA system integration fulfill functional design specifications are also included.1
