    ;
    Airport safety can be improved by efficient air traffic management, which monitors aircraft parking spots and controls their movement into them more efficiently. In addition to emergency situations, it can assist in accurately inspecting airport areas. Management costs can be reduced by reducing the workload of personnel in controlling and helping manage air and ground traffic. This research focuses on comparing the performance of various YOLOv8 models (YOLOv8n, YOLOv8s, YOLOv8m, YOLOv8nl, and YOLOv8nx) in an automated aircraft detection system using digital image processing techniques. The methodology involves collecting a dataset of 1,000 airport apron images with parked aircraft, dividing them into 900 training images and 100 testing images. The YOLOv8 models are trained on the training dataset, and their performance is evaluated on the testing dataset using confusion matrices. Experimental results reveal that YOLOv8nx achieves the highest average aircraft detection performance, with a precision of 0.94, recall of 0.74, and f1-score of 0.83. Additionally, YOLOv8n demonstrates the highest processing speed at 0.95 milliseconds. Consequently, YOLOv8n is suitable for applications requiring high-speed processing, while YOLOv8nx is ideal for tasks demanding the utmost performance efficiency.

    Tribovoltaic effect: Fundamental working mechanism and emerging applications
    (2023-06-01)
    Sriphan, S.
    ;
    The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is currently a promising technology operated by coupling mechanisms between contact electrification and electrostatic induction for efficiently converting mechanical energy into electricity. Broad applications have been demonstrated practically. However, the electrical signal produced from the TENG has a pulsed alternating current output, which needs to be rectified by the circuit from alternating current to direct current (DC) appropriately for powering/storing small electronic systems. This limits utilization by the drawbacks of conversion efficiency, size, and portability. The development of a DC TENG is thus essential. This novel physical phenomenon (DC TENG) emerged just recently, mainly based on Schottky, p-n and liquid-semiconductor junctions, and a multilayered structure junction (i.e. metal/semiconductor-insulator-semiconductor), called the tribovoltaic nanogenerator (TVNG). Pair sliding from two triboelectric materials with different electronic band energies serves as continuous DC with a unique mechanism. The excited carriers (corresponding with the generated outputs) can be enhanced from the tribovoltaic effect through theoretical design, and the concept can be hybridized with other technologies. This provides the potential of in-depth study and practical demonstrations for advanced harvesting and sensing. This review comprehensively presents the origins of triboelectric and tribovoltaic effects, related to fundamental and dynamic TVNG mechanisms in various material systems, and recent progress of the TVNG in designs and applications. Moreover, the challenge and outlook are discussed lastly for the future direction of TVNG development.

    Surface charge density is a key factor that greatly enhances the performance of a natural-based triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG), which is essential for future sustainable sensing and harvesting devices. This work introduced a conductive interlayer between a main frictional layer and electrode. This approach can suppress the charge recombination rate and improve the amount of charges produced during the triboelectrification process. Bacterial cellulose (BC) film was selected as a main frictional layer for the TENG. A conductive nanomaterial, i.e. silver flake, was incorporated into the BC film as an intermediate layer for enhancing TENG performance. As firstly reported, the maximum electrical outputs for the multi-layer BC structure could be found when using silver flake/BC composite (ratio 1:5) as an intermediate layer, which has 122 V and 8.2 µA of output voltage and current, respectively. This is higher than the output voltage and current of a single layer BC TENG by approximately 3 and 8 times, respectively. The maximum output power of ∼440 µW is achieved by connecting with a load resistor of ∼10 MΩ. This demonstrates an efficient strategy for designing a high performance energy harvester by adding an intermediate layer for the target of practical purposes in sustainable systems.

    Hybrid piezoelectric-triboelectric nanogenerators for flexible electronics: Recent advances and perspectives
    (2022-09-01)
    Sriphan, Saichon
    ;
    For several decades, a focus has been placed on the development of future flexible electronics, including electronic skin, wearable devices, environmental monitoring systems and the Internet of things (IoT) network. The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) attracted attention by developing this technology due to its high-performance, facile design/fabrication, light-weight and high flexibility. However, in some cases, the use of pristine triboelectric material for a TENG operation might be insufficient for efficiently driving/sensing small-to-medium electronic systems without modification. Hence, a hybrid strategy between piezoelectric and triboelectric effects from piezoelectric nanogenerator (PENG) and TENG is proposed. This unique characteristic serves as a combination of polarized charges from the piezoelectricity and surface charges from the triboelectric effect when the hybrid device is subjected to mechanical stress. This provides a higher yield of charge density, which relates to a higher magnitude of output current. Through outstanding performance, the hybrid PENG and TENG can be applied in various fields, especially in flexible electronics technology. Herein, an overview of recent advances for hybrid PENG and TENG development is presented, including basic mechanisms, related theories, coupling effect, performance factors, and potential applications. The final part also discusses the challenges and perspectives for further development and the opportunity for the commercialization of this nanogenerator.

    The effects of strain and gender on production performance, carcass characteristics, and meat quality of broiler chickens were examined. There were no significant interactions between broiler strain and gender (P>0.05). Arbor Acres showed significantly higher body weight (BW) and average daily gain (ADG), while feed intake (FI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were significantly lower than Ross308 and Cobb500, especially in the fifth and sixth weeks of age. Arbor Acres also showed the highest slaughter weight (P<0.05). However, carcass composition was not significantly different between strains. There were no significant differences between the strains in muscle pH, drip loss and cooking loss. However, Cobb500 had a lower shear force value than the others (P<0.05). As for the gender-specific effect, BW and ADG of male broilers were higher than those of females from the second to the sixth week of age (P<0.01). At the second week of age, female broilers had higher FI, while male broilers had higher FI from the third to the sixth week of age (P<0.01). Male broilers had lower FCR than females from the fourth to the sixth week of age (P<0.01). Male broilers had higher slaughter weight, carcass weight and carcass composition weight (P<0.01) except for abdominal fat (P>0.05). Percent carcass composition did not differ among broiler strains except for percent tenderloin and percent abdominal fat, which were higher in females than males (P<0.01). Broiler strains had no effect on meat quality except that Cobb500 had lower shear force (P<0.05). The pH3, pH24 and yellowness color values had differed between genders, which male muscle had higher pH3 (P<0.05), pH24 (P<0.01) than female but female muscle had higher yellowness value than male (P<0.05). Interaction effect between breed and gender was found in lightness (P<0.01) and redness colors (P<0.05).

    Electric vehicles (EVs) are considered to be a solution for sustainable transportation. EVs can reduce fossil fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and the negative impacts of climate change and global warming, as well as help improve air quality. However, EV adoption in Thailand is quite low. Against this backdrop, this study investigates barriers and motivators for EV adoption and their public perception in Thailand. A total of 454 responses were collected through an online questionnaire. The results indicate that the top three concerns of respondents about EVs are public infrastructure and vehicle performance in terms of charge range and battery life. Respondents with more than five years of driving experience in the age range of 26–35 years old could be key targets for early EV adoption.
