Item type:Publication, Transient equivalent circuit of a horizontal grounding electrode(2012-12-31); ; ;Potivejkul, S.This paper proposes an equivalent circuit of grounding electrode which has validity upto a frequency range of sub-sequence stroke lightning current. The equivalent circuit is modelled by lumped and distributed parameters based on quasistatic assumption. In this study, only a grounding electrode installed horizontally is in consideration. The limitation of the uniform distributed equivalent circuit of a grounding electrode is presented. The non-uniform distributed equivalent circuit is proposed. The proposed equivalent circuits are verified by comparison of the results of ground potential rise computed by the proposed circuit, the partial element equivalent circuit method, and available experimental data. The proposed equivalent circuit can be adapted for being the models for development and design of the grounding system for lightning protection system in transmission and distribution systems in an effective way. © 2012 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Study of the Voltage Frequency Effects on Partial Discharge Characteristics(2023-01-01) ;Marukatat, Nattapon ;Mai-Eiam, Thanatorn; ;Raxsa, JedsadaNimsanong, PhethaiIn this paper, the partial discharge (PD) characteristics under the voltage at frequencies in the range of 20 Hz to 300 Hz are studied. Three main types of PD being corona, surface and internal discharges are simulated by an arrangement of electrodes in test cells. The effects of voltage frequency on the PD characteristics in terms of PD inception voltage (PDIV), PD extinction voltage (PDEV), and phase-resolved PD (PRPD) patterns have been reported from the experimental results. It is found that in the frequency range of 20 Hz to 300 Hz there is no frequency effect on the PD characteristics (PDIV, PDEV, and PRPD) found in cases of corona and surface discharge. However, the frequency effects are found in the case of the internal discharge representing the higher frequency increase the higher PDIV and PDEV are. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Study of High Voltage AC Generation Using A Series Resonant Circuit(2023-01-01); ;Raxsa, Jedsada; Mai-Eiam, ThanatornThis paper studies an approach for high-voltage AC generation using a series resonant circuit in case of high capacitive load. The capacitor of 0.5 microfarad was a selected capacitive load in the test circuit. An HV inductor with 3 changing taps (53.2 H, 24.2 H, and 18.6 H) is used in the circuit for the generation of AC voltage with frequencies of about 30 Hz, 40 Hz, and 50 Hz, respectively. The square wave was generated by a variable frequency converter. The frequency of the square wave is adjusted to meet the resonant conditions associated with the inductance and capacitance of the circuit. It was found that using the test circuit the voltage gains of 30 can be achieved in the experiments. From the test results, it can confirm the possibility for further development of the test circuit used in the onsite test of MV and HV power cables in the near future. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Accurate Loss Tangent Determination in Damped Alternating Voltage Tests(2024-01-01); ; Paophan, BusayapolUnderground cables are crucial for sustainable energy systems due to their minimal visual impact, reliability, and resilience against weather-related disruptions. As reliance on renewable energy sources rises, their importance grows. Regular evaluation of these cables is essential for ensuring safety, reliability, and resilience of electricity networks. By promptly identifying risks like insulation degradation, utilities can optimize maintenance, prioritize repairs, and bolster the integration of renewables, enhancing overall infrastructure performance. Loss tangent is the most significant value used for evaluation of the cable condition. This paper presents an alternative method for estimation of loss tangent in comparison with a conventional approach in damped alternating current voltage (DACV) tests. In the loss tangent estimation, the equivalent circuit of the DACV test system and a damping factor of the measured test voltage are utilized in the loss tangent estimation. From simulation experimental results, it is found that the conventional method is not accurate in loss tangent estimation in cases of low loss tangent measurement in the range of 0.1% which is a typical value of the new and used underground power cables. However, the accuracy of the proposed method is still in the acceptable range for estimation of the loss tangent in the range of 0.1% - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A System for PD Pulse Generating, Monitoring, and System Characterization(2024-01-01); ;Paophan, BusayapolThis paper introduces a system for generating and measuring pulse signals used in calibrating and evaluating the performance of partial discharge detection systems. A LabVIEW-based software program has been created to control a digital oscilloscope and an arbitrary waveform generator. The program functionality includes pulse signal generation, measurement of partial discharge (PD) pulse current and charge, and characterization of PD measurement circuits in accordance with standards such as IEC 60270 and IEC 60885-3. This system can generate accurately calibrated pulse charges ranging from 2 pC to 100 pC. Additionally, it can generate a double pulse with an adjustable interval time between pulses ranging from 0.2 μ s to 100 μ s, with the frequency of the calibrated charge signal also adjustable. Test results demonstrate that the developed system can generate calibrated pulse signals meeting standard requirements, with a charge generation tolerance of approximately 2%. Furthermore, this system offers a cost-effective alternative compared to commercial solutions. Its implementation in the High Voltage Laboratory enhances its capability to conduct partial discharge calibrations and accurately assess the characteristics of partial discharge measurement systems. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Applications of high-voltage resistor based on saline solution in high-voltage impulse generation and measurement(2020-01-01); This paper presents applications of high-voltage (HV) resistors based on saline solution for HV impulse generation and measurement. The electrical resistivity and relative permittivity of saline solution in the frequency range from 100 Hz to 100 MHz were investigated. The electrical resistivity and relative permittivity were calculated from experimental measurements of the resistance and capacitance of saline solution in a test cell. From the characteristics and the experimental results, the technical data of saline solution with various concentrations of substances were utilized in the design of HV resistors for HV impulse generation and measurement, as a current-limiting resistor and an HV resistor used in an HV part of a voltage divider. Moreover, the developed HV resistors were tested to confirm their effectiveness in HV generation and measurement. From the experimental results, it was found that the developed HV resistors have promising characteristics for practical HV impulse generation and measurement. According to the results of this study, an HV resistor based on saline solution has strong potential for application in HV impulse generation and measurement compared with a conventional voltage divider. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The performance of a high frequency current transducer for partial discharge measurement under testing with a power frequency converter(2018-11-01); ;Paophan, Busayapol; In this paper, the performance of a high-frequency current transducer (HFCT) for partial discharge measurement under testing with a power frequency converter is presented. The performances of the HFCT in comparison with the conventional partial discharge detection system (Omicron MPD600) were investigated terms of the ability to classify partial discharges and the background noises in the system from PD test cells in case of corona discharge, internal discharge and surface discharge. It's found that the presented system provides the better performances (in terms of the background noise) than conventional PD detection system and it can also be used to distinguish type of partial discharges. In addition, the presented system has been used for the real partial test on the PD test cells successfully. The HFCT for PD detection is an attractive choice in the PD tests of high-voltage equipment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Development of A Transient Recorder for Lightning Impulse Voltage Measurement(2024-01-01); ;Pramualsingha, SarawuthThis paper presents the development of a transient recorder specifically designed for the measurement of lightning impulse voltage (LIV), primarily used for high-voltage insulation testing purposes. The developed transient recorder comprises a passive attenuator, a 12-bit digital oscilloscope, and a full LIV parameters evaluation software. The software, implemented using Python 3.11, utilizes Levenberg-Marquardt nonlinear regression for the determination of base curve coefficients, conforming to the IEC 60060-1:2010 standard methodology. LIV parameters, including peak voltage, front time, time to half, and overshoot rate, determined by the software, meet the accuracy requirements of IEC 61083-2:2013. Validation involved testing with 29 standard LIV waveforms generated by a test waveform generator (TDG). Additionally, LIV generated by LIV calibrator (KAL 1000 DR. STRAUSS) was used to confirm the proper functioning of the developed transient recorder. The developed transient recorder was also deployed with a capacitive voltage divider for testing commercial transformers in a manufacturing facility, where it performed effectively. This achievement should encourage the adoption of this measuring system in every high-voltage laboratory, promoting domestic production over imports. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
