Item type:Publication, Fabrication and characterization of lightweight aggregates with expanded perlite and NPK nutrient incorporation(2025-06-01) ;Rungrueng, Panadda ;Hankoy, Montree; ;Keawprak, NittayaThis study focuses on the development of porous lightweight aggregates incorporated with NPK fertilizer as a sustainable nutrient carrier for agricultural applications. The integration of expanded perlite (EP) as a pore-forming agent enabled the production of lightweight aggregates (EP-LWAs) at lower sintering temperatures (900 °C) while maintaining high porosity and water absorption properties, reducing energy consumption compared to conventional high-temperature ceramic processing. The optimized EP-LWAs exhibited a bulk density of 1.15 g/cm3, porosity of 46.09 %, and water absorption of 40.28 %, ensuring enhanced nutrient retention capacity. The fertilizer incorporation process was achieved using a simple vacuum infiltration technique, effectively loading the pellets with 1.2 % nitrogen (N), 2.6 % phosphorus (P), and 1.2 % potassium (K), surpassing typical soil nutrient levels and exhibiting comparable NPK content to organic fertilizers. These results highlight the potential of EP-LWAs as an energy-efficient and eco-friendly planting materials, offering a cost-effective for sustainable agriculture, green roof, and vertical gardening applications. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Dry film Holographic grating based on computer-generated mask Lithography(2022-01-01) ;Inneam, Chanikan ;Tipawan Khlayboonme, S.; ; This paper presented an alternative technique for fabricating the dry film holographic grating based on a mask generated by computer simulation and experimental results. The mask was generated by a fringe pattern which is created by the mathematical model of two beams interference with various angles. Computer simulation of the fringe pattern was printed on film, i.e., the holographic grating mask. The mask was attached on dry film and then illuminated by UV light, where the lithography technique was applied. According to the lithography technique, the computer-generated holographic grating mask was transferred to dry film. After fabrication, fringe patterns obtained from the grating were observed. Then, the grating period was analyzed and confirmed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Experimental results show that the method could apply to fabricate the dry film holographic grating. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Utilization coal-bottom ash and sludge from wastewater for fabricating porous ceramic PM filter: properties and filtering performance(2025-12-01) ;Prasertsin, W.; ;Rodchom, M. ;Atong, D.Vichaphund, S.In this work, coal-bottom ash and sludge from wastewater obtained from local plant in Thailand were used as raw materials to fabricate porous ceramic materials using extrusion method for particulate matter (PM) filtration. The influence of the sludge addition (0–40 wt%) and sintering temperature (1000–1200 °C) on physical and mechanical properties of porous ceramic materials was investigated. The addition of sludge led to a decrease in the bulk density of BA-(10–40 wt%) SL ceramic samples sintered at all sintering temperatures due to high level of porosity generated from the gas evolving inside ceramic samples. The maximum bulk density of BA-(10–40 wt%) SL samples, ranging from 1.22 to 1.97 g/cm3, was obtained at 1150 °C. The porous BA-SL ceramic filters containing 20–40 wt% sludge and sintered at 1150 °C exhibited high open porosity (> 50%) while maintaining good mechanical strength (1.20–2.31 MPa). Additionally, these filters primarily featured small pore sizes between 5 and 30 μm, making them suitable for micron-level filtration and, consequently, effective for PM filtration applications. The BA-(20–40 wt%) SL ceramic filters achieved over 95% efficiency for PM<inf>2.5</inf> and PM<inf>10</inf>, with an acceptable pressure drop < 700 Pa. Among the tested samples, the BA-SL20 filter, which had a high porosity of 50.60% with interconnected pores within the ceramic structure, an average pore size of 15.23 μm, and a compressive strength of 2.31 MPa, exhibited the highest removal efficiency of 99.48% for PM<inf>2.5</inf> and 99.29% for PM<inf>10</inf> at a pressure drop of 622 Pa. These results suggest that coal bottom ash and sludge from industrial waste can be effectively utilized as alternative raw materials for producing ceramic filters for PM removal applications. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Co-pelletization of industrial sewage sludge and rice straw: Characteristics and economic analysis(2021-08-01) ;Duangjaiboon, Krittidej; Kaewpengkrow, Prangthip RittichoteThe disposal of industrial sewage sludge is one of the most serious environmental problems in Thailand. Moreover, the disposal expense is considered as the production cost to the manufacturer. Therefore, the concept of waste-to-energy technology (WTE) is applied to solve this problem. This study aimed to study the effect of sewage sludge and rice straw proportions on the properties of co-pellets. Here, the production of co-pelleted sewage sludge from the canned food industry, combined with biomass (rice straw), was performed using a lab-scale pelletization machine. The pellets consisted of sewage sludge (SS) and rice straw (RS) with sewage sludge ratios of RS100:SS0, RS50:SS50, RS35:SS65, RS25:SS75, and RS0:SS100. The co-pellets produced were characterized for physicochemical properties and calorific heating values. In addition, the benefit to cost ratio (B/C), internal rate of return (IRR), and payback period (PB) from the utilization of co-pellets were studied. The results suggest that the proportion of sewage sludge affects the properties of the co-pellets. The optimum sewage sludge to rice straw ratio at RS0:SS100 is considered to have good fuel combustion properties. It is suitable for the production of co-pellets because of its high volatility and low ash slagging content. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effect of expanded perlite on physical and mechanical properties of cement mortar(2021-09-15) ;Patthanavarit, Jira; ;Keawprak, NittayaThis study presents an investigation of the physical and mechanical properties of the cement mortar containing expanded perlite as a filler material. The effects of perlite replacement contents and compressive molding force on bulk density, water absorption, and flexural strength were observed. In the mixture of mortar, the content of sand was replaced with perlite ranging from 0 to 15% by weight. The specimen was pressed under the uniaxial force varied from 20 to 40 kN then de-molded and cured in the humidity for 28 days. With the increase in perlite content from 0 to 15 wt%, the bulk density decreased from 2118 kg/m3 to 1586 kg/m3 while the water absorption increased from 7.4% to18.7%. All composites showed a low thermal conductivity in the range of 0.10-0.27 W/m K. The specimen without perlite had a flexural strength in the range of 10.7-14.2 MPa, while that of sample containing perlite was 7.8-12.5 MPa. The cement mortar composite containing 10 wt% expanded perlite and molding at 40 kN showed the highest flexural strength of 12.50±1.36 MPa while the bulk density and water absorption were 1773 kg/m3 and 1.40 %, respectively. The results of this research can be used as a guideline for further development in building materials such as lightweight roof tile, lightweight brick, and ceiling tile. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Thin film nanocomposite nanofiltration with tannic acid-Fe(III) complexes functionalized Ti3C2Tx for enhanced divalent-salinity-water separation with a superior durability(2024-02-01) ;Deng, Yanan ;Zhang, Aihua ;Zhang, Zheng ;Xu, YidanLi, GaiyeIncorporating nanomaterials for a thin film nanocomposite (TFN) layer has been verified effective to improve the separation performance of nanofiltration (NF) membranes, whereas the poor compatibility between nanomaterials and polyamide (PA) matrix leads to a decrease in the salt rejection and pollution resistance. In this study, inspired by a new interface-bridging idea, Ti<inf>3</inf>C<inf>2</inf>T<inf>x</inf> was bonded with tannic acid-Fe(III) (TA-Fe(III)) complexes, and then incorporated into a PA matrix for the first time to obtain a novel TFN NF membrane. The introduction of TA-Ti<inf>3</inf>C<inf>2</inf>T<inf>x</inf> was found to effectively reduce the diffusion of piperazine, and thus result in the induction of a thinner, lower roughness, more hydrophilic, and defect-free PA layer. With the addition of 0.015 wt% TA-Ti<inf>3</inf>C<inf>2</inf>T<inf>x</inf>, the TFN membrane obtained the highest water permeability of 12.17 L m−2 h−1 bar−1, almost twice that of the pristine membrane, with a high Na<inf>2</inf>SO<inf>4</inf> rejection above 97 %. In addition, the TA-Ti<inf>3</inf>C<inf>2</inf>T<inf>x</inf>-filled TFN membranes were verified to exhibit excellent antifouling performance and pressure resistance with a high durability, which is crucial for the practical application in salinity water treatment. This study provides an effective strategy to tailor the interfacial microstructural of nanoparticle-filled NF membranes for superior divalent-salinity-water separation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Characterization of Fluoride-added Hydroxyapatite Derived from Eggshells for Dental Application(2023-01-01) ;Uthayaphamornwat, Vilasinee ;Khantachawana, Anak; ; Hydroxyapatite (HA) is one of the potential biomaterials used for treating dental defects. It can be incorporated with fluoride to enhance its anti-caries properties, though other properties could be dependent on processing technique. Hence, this study aims to characterize the influence of sintering on the properties of fluoride-added HA derived from eggshells. FTIR and XRD techniques are used to characterize the chemical and crystal structures of the samples, whilst dissolution test is carried out to characterize material degradation in the acidic environment. The results show that sintering increased the crystallinity in both HA and fluoride-add HA (F-HA) samples, which corresponds with the enhanced stability during the dissolution test. Moreover, it is also found that the addition of fluoride could further stabilize the material structure, though the impurities found in all the samples still need to be minimized. These findings suggest that sintering and fluoride addition could potentially enhance anti-caries properties of eggshell-derived HA, which could be beneficial for dental application in future subject to further process optimization and analysis. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Preparation of CdSe thin films: annealing effects on structure and optical properties(2025-01-01) ;Hankoy, Montree; In this work, we prepared well−crystallized CdSe thin films onto glass substrates using vacuum thermal evaporation method (VTE). The CdSe thin film was deposited on the substrate for 10 min in a vacuum chamber where the pressure was maintained at 5⋅10-5 Torr. To further increase the crystallinity, the as-deposited CdSe films were next thermally annealed in the air at annealing temperatures between 200 and 400 °C. The CdSe films were then investigated for phase composition, morphology, and optical properties. X-ray diffraction (XRD) examinations demonstrated a hexagonal phase of CdSe with preferential orientation along the (002) direction. The morphology analysis showed a homogeneous morphology with an average grain of approximately 65.55–90.25 nm in size. Chemical analysis confirmed the stoichiometric presence of Cd and Se. In addition, the optical band gap, determined from Tauc’s plot, using UV-Vis spectroscopic data, was found to be in the range of 1.66–1.69 eV. An annealing temperature of 300 °C resulted in the most favorable condition with the lowest optical band gap value of 1.66 eV, indicating a narrower band gap in the annealed CdSe thin film. The high deposition rate of VTE presents a significant advantage for this technique, potentially facilitating its use in creating optoelectronics and solar cells that are highly efficient and cost-effective. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Enhancement of Flexural Strength in Fiber–Cement Composites through Modification of Sisal Fiber with Natural Rubber Latex and Expanded Perlite(2024-04-01) ;Thepruttana, Siriwan ;Patthanavarit, Jira ;Hankoy, Montree; Keawprak, NittayaThis study presents a novel approach in enhancing the flexural strength of sisal fiber cement composites by employing a dual coating technique with natural rubber latex and expanded perlite to the sisal fibers. The effects of different fiber content (0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, and 1.5 wt%) and fiber length (1, 2, and 3 cm) on the physical and mechanical properties of sisal fiber cement were also studied. The physical properties, including bulk density and water absorption, were evaluated via the Archimedes method. Flexural strength was measured using the 3-point bending method, and microstructure was observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an optical microscope (OM). As the fiber content and length increase, the bulk density of the sisal fiber cement decreases. However, composites utilizing coated fibers consistently exhibit a higher bulk density than those utilizing uncoated fibers, attributed to enhanced adhesion and reduced porosity. The water absorption of sisal fiber cement increases with fiber content, but it is mitigated by the natural rubber latex coating, which prevents fiber–water absorption, and by expanded perlite, which reduces voids in the matrix. Composites containing coated fibers consistently exhibit superior flexural strength compared to those with uncoated fibers. The highest flexural strength values of 5.58 MPa were observed in composites utilizing 3 cm of coated fiber with 0.25 wt% fiber content. Microstructure analysis reveals a well-bonded interface in coated fibers, emphasizing the positive impact of coating on mechanical performance. The incorporation of coated sisal fibers effectively improves adhesion, water resistance, and flexural strength, offering sustainable and durable construction materials. The achieved results can serve as the guidelines for the development of a high-performance bio-based construction materials with improved durability and reduced environmental impact. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
