    The technique to generate firing signal of converter for linear DC output

    The firing angle adjustment of ac-dc converter that adjust firing angle proportional to control signal. The dc output voltage is not linear. This paper presents the technique to generate the firing signal for ac-dc converter which has linear dc output voltage. This technique decoded the arccosine value as binary data and save in ROM, before compare with control signal. All digital circuits and ROM were constructed using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and Verilog Hardware Description Language (Verilog HDL) so that the proposed technique has small size and ease of implementation. The experimental results show the dc output voltage and output waveform that agree with the design. Moreover, this technique can be applied to multi-output for dual converter and 3- phase system. © 2008 SICE.

    Foundation fieldbus-based laboratory: A case study of Harmonas-DEO system

    This paper presents a Foundation Fieldbus-based laboratory for education of automation infrastructure. Design and implementation of a level-control plant model using multi-vendor field devices is proposed. Harmonas-DEO fieldbus system is described as an illustrative case study for configuring and commissioning fieldbus segment, defining control strategy, designing human machine interface (HMI) screen, and troubleshooting. Fieldbus control valve diagnostics based on the use of Valstaff are also included. © 2011 SICE.

    Parallel 5x step-up SC DC-DC converter for power efficiency improvement

    In switched-capacitor converter, the fluctuation of on-resistance effects power efficiency in proportion to the decrease of output load. This paper presents switched-capacitor (SC) DC-DC converter that parallel-connected to improve the power efficiency. The converter utilizes solar energy for industrial wireless transmitter. It can be supplied by its internal battery in combination with the proposed converter for long battery runtime. A Rosemount wireless transmitter from Emerson Process Management Company is used as a target application example in process measurement. The proposed converter is designed for receiving 1.5 V solar cells and powering 7.5 V connect in parallel with wireless transmitter battery. The validity of the theoretical analyses is confirmed by SPICE simulations and experimental results. The derived formulas will be helpful to estimate circuit characteristics. Moreover, SPICE simulation values and experimental results agree well with theoretical results. © 2011 SICE.

    Digital fieldbus-Analog system integration for revamping projects
    This paper presents a system integration of modern digital fieldbus and traditional analog devices for revamping projects. Using temperature transmitter with Foundation Fieldbus technology and power regulator with 4-20 mA control input for temperature control based on a PID instruction of programmable logic controller (PLC) is examined as an illustrative case study. A portable plant model was designed and implemented for real hands-on training. In addition, basic network and device configurations as well as ladder logic program and graphical user interface creations are discussed. Experimental results of temperature control in the range of 40-60 °C verifying the proposed concept are also included.

    Isolated current feedback control for buck converter

    This paper proposes the design and technique for controlling DC voltage of DC-DC converter using isolated current feedback. When testing with different loads [1], the output obtained has good voltage regulator, a wide input voltage range, quick response and safe. This research uses phototransistor to detect output current signal and send feedback with isolated electrical signal to PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) circuit to control the duty cycle fed to switch. Buck converter is a step down voltage converter, which results in the current at output higher than that of input [2]. This research uses output current fed through Opto and select only linear interval current ratio fed to control and feedback. The experiment is performed using Buck-Type DC-DC converter to level the output voltage as desired. Results are satisfying and a simplest circuit. © 2005 IEEE.

    In general, the process of the SPRT module calibration takes long time and requires all employees participation in the calibration process, and it also requires an expert for calculation of results and measurement uncertainty. All of these waste a vast amount of working time. Therefore, this paper provides the automatic SPRT module calibration process which can reduce the steps of calibration, resulting in process time reduction and the automatic process doesn't require the expert to calculate results and measurement uncertainty. © 2011 IEEE.

    Parallel-connected high voltage multiplier with symmetrical structure

    A high voltage multiplier is proposed for non-thermal food processing systems utilizing an underwater shockwave. Unlike conventional Cockcroft-Walton Voltage Multiplier (CWVM) providing a DC output from an AC input, the proposed multiplier consists of two switched-capacitorbased DC-DC converters with different polarities. Owing to the symmetrical bipolar structure without magnetic component, the proposed multiplier can achieve faster response speed and lower voltage drop than the conventional CWVM. The theoretical analysis and simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed voltage multiplier. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

    Applying radar chart for process control behavior
    This paper presents the technique to show the controller parameters value that can support decision making of controller action and instruments, actuator operation. In addition, energy consumption is detected of any points of process operation. The paper describes method to detect and collect the assigned process control parameters from process components then display their parameters by radar chart. All of assigned parameters are used to construct the plotted of radar figure. The paper designs background and foreground by representation with rectangular array and length of each spoke in radar chart is proportional to magnitude of set value(SV), manipulate value(MV), process value(PV) of PID controller parameters. In addition, watt power (W) of energy consumption in the process is detected and stored. Each spoke of radar chart represents each parameter that converts to scale as 0-100%. The script functions are developed at the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) station to detect, collect and scale, then store detected parameters in database. The experiments perform in case study of level loop control of water tank processes by using a proportion-integral-derivative (PID) function in the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Wonderware InTouch SCADA software. The technique can apply for exiting SCADA to create the radar chart. Nevertheless, the new version of SCADA software can support the feature but it depends on cost license fee. Moreover, the technique can support the operators and engineers to make decision of process devices performance (instrument, actuator, controller), process operation and condition.

    Design of a switched-capacitor-based serial DC-DC converter using clean energy power supplies

    For mobile back-lighting applications, a switched-capacitor-based serial DC-DC converter using solar power supplies is proposed in this paper. Unlike conventional switched-capacitor DC-DC converters, the proposed converter pushes up the output voltage of a switched-capacitor-based circuit by the voltage of solar cells. For this reason, the proposed converter can realize not only long battery runtime but also small hardware-cost and wide input-range. Concretely, in comparison with the conventional parallel converter using 1.5× step-up SC converters, the proposed converter can achieve 20% reduction of hardware cost and 16% extension of input range. The characteristics of the proposed converter are clarified by theoretical analyses. Furthermore, SPICE simulations and experiments show the validity of circuit design, where theoretical results correspond well with simulation results.
