Item type:Publication, Design and application of daylight-based lighting controller on LED luminaire(2020-05-01) ;Bunjongjit, Sulee; ; ; Patcharoen, TheerasakThis paper proposes a control circuit for Light Emitting Diode (LED) luminaire based on the amount of daylight. This system uses both natural daylight and artificial light from a luminaire to reach the desired illuminance on a working plane. The control circuit operates by receiving an illuminance value from a light sensor and comparing it with a set value in the microcontroller before limiting the light intensity of LED by sending a control Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal to the LED driver. In the experimental setup, the controller and a physical model of a working space were built in order to field test the LED daylight control circuit. Electrical characteristics such as voltage, current, and power were measured with a power meter. Illumination characteristics in terms of illuminance on a working plane were determined using a lux meter. The results from actual field tests revealed that this LED control circuit was able to reduce the power consumption of the lighting system while keeping the illuminance on the working plane at the standard value. Both simulation results and the actual experiment of the control circuit proved that it could be used to improve the energy efficiency of both newly installed and retrofitted lighting systems. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Development of micro-mobility based on piezoelectric energy harvesting for smart city applications(2020-04-01); ;Songsukthawan, PanapongThis study investigates the use of an alternative energy source in the production of electric energy to meet the increasing energy requirements, encourage the use of clean energy, and thus reduce the effects of global warming. The alternative energy source used is a mechanical energy by piezoelectric material, which can convert mechanical energy into electrical energy, that can convert mechanical energy from pressure forces and vibrations during activities such as walking and traveling into electrical energy. Herein, a pilot device is designed, involving the modification of a bicycle into a stationary exercise bike with a piezoelectric generator, to study energy conversion and storage generated from using the bike. Secondly, the piezoelectric energy harvesting system is used on bicycles as a micro-mobility, light electric utility vehicle with smart operation, providing a novel approach to smart city design. The results show that the energy harvested from the piezoelectric devices can be stored in a 3200 mAh, 5 V battery and power sensors on the bicycle. Moreover, 13.6 mW power can be generated at regular cycling speed, outputting 11.5 V and 1.2 mA. Therefore, the piezoelectric energy harvesting system has sufficient potential for application as a renewable energy source that can be used with low power equipment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The conducted emission attenuation of micro-inverters for nanogrid systems(2020-01-01); Road lighting systems require a significant amount of electric energy. To compensate for the utilized energy, the concept of a nanogrid road lighting system is presented. A solar panel is installed on the top of a lighting pole to generate electric power. In this research, a photovoltaic simulator (PV simulator), which is used to simulate solar behavior such as current, voltage, and power based on temperature and solar irradiance levels, is employed to replace a solar panel. In the nanogrid system, grid-connected and stand-alone micro-inverters are employed to convert the electric power. The inverters comprise switching devices that can generate electromagnetic interference (EMI) when operating, which is harmful to the grid system and the electrical equipment. In general, EMI has been studied and reduced in electrical appliances, which only receive electric power. However, for the nanogrid system, which supplies electricity to the grid system, there is less study on the EMI topic because the usage is still not widespread. In the future, the nanogrid system will be widely used delivering high power directly into the electrical grid system. Therefore, the study and attenuation of EMI in the nanogrid system are very promising. Conducted emission (CE) is one form of EMI that flows through a cable connecting several appliances in the frequency range of 150 kHz to 30 MHz. CE of grid-connected and stand-alone micro-inverters have high levels in the low-frequency range between 150 kHz-5 MHz and then decreases steadily. CE attenuation is important for this inverter in a solar power system. This research studies the effect of CE mitigation on the nanogrid system. The result is compared with the Comite International Special des Perturbations Radio (CISPR) 14-1 standard. Finally, the passive EMI filter can reduce CE and meets the CISPR 14-1 standard. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, An Approach for Voltage Drop Improvement in Distribution Line Using High-Voltage Capacitor Bank(2025-01-01) ;Songsukthawan, Panapong; ;Thongsuk, Surakit ;Phannil, NatthanonBunjongjit, SuleeDistribution line voltage drops cause power losses and a general decline in the efficiency of the electrical power system. In this study, PSCAD software is used to evaluate the elements that impact the voltage drop in the distribution line, including distribution line length, electric load power factor, and electric load capacity, both with and without capacitor bank installation. The 22-kV overhead distribution line in Thailand served as the basis for the simulation model’s creation. It has been suggested to install capacitor bank-based techniques to increase voltage on distribution lines. The findings show that the voltage drop is significantly influenced by the distribution line distance, electric load power factor, and electric load capacity. The voltage drop can be minimized to the greatest extent by properly arranging capacitor banks. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, An approach to energy conservation in lighting systems using luminaire-based sensor for automatic dimming(2025-12-01); ;Thongsuk, Surakit ;Sottiyaphai, Chayanut ;Songsukthawan, PanapongChiradeja, PathomthatLighting systems account for a significant proportion of energy consumption in buildings. Therefore, energy conservation within these systems can greatly enhance overall building energy efficiency. This study proposes a control strategy for LED lamps by adjusting lighting intensity and improving the performance of electric luminaires. The approach involves implementing an automated dimming system that adapts lighting intensity based on surrounding light levels. A system comprising an ambient light sensor, microcontroller, power supply module, dimming controller, and lamp was developed. The sensors measure brightness within a specified range in real time, and the microcontroller analyzes and compares this data against the brightness settings for specific areas. The designed control system was tested in a laboratory setup to demonstrate its effectiveness in a controlled environment. Results showed a 75.65% reduction in power consumption compared to standard lamps in a simulated environment, highlighting its potential for significant energy savings in buildings and its contribution to environmental sustainability. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Attenuation of Electromagnetic Interference Generated by High-Frequency Switching Devices(2022-01-01); ; A frequency modulation (FM) radio signal receiver is an important device for radio transmitters. The FM radio signal receiver is mounted on the radio transmitter, and its circuit is connected to the electronic system inside the radio transmitter. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the electromagnetic interference (EMI) produced by the FM radio signal receiver to prevent damage caused by interference. This study investigated the EMI characteristics of an FM radio signal receiver in terms of conducted emissions and radiated emissions. The conducted emissions were measured in the frequency range of 150 kHz to 30 MHz and exceeded the CISPR22 standard at frequencies of 370 kHz (-2.4 dB) and 480 kHz (-6.5 dB). The radiated emissions were measured in the frequency range of 30 MHz to 1000 MHz and exceeded the EN55022 standard at a frequency of 33.93 MHz (-13 dB). The conducted emissions were reduced using an axial ferrite bead, while the radiated emissions were attenuated using multipoint grounding and shielding techniques. The axial ferrite beads could attenuate the conducted emissions by 8 dB. The multi-point grounding and shielding techniques attenuated the radiated emissions by approximately 22 dB. These EMI attenuation methods demonstrated satisfactory attenuation performance and resulted in the EMI satisfying the relevant standards. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Impact of Electromagnetic Interference Filter Performance in a System without and with Grounding for Supporting the Nanogrid Road Lighting System(2021-04-27); ;Bunjongjit, SuleeThis study focuses on the comparison of conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation for a nanogrid road lighting system, using a passive EMI filter between ungrounded and grounded systems. An inverter was used as the equipment under test in the experiment. The inverter is a power conversion device that receives power from the source and supplies power to the AC electrical load of an LED luminaire. There are two points where the self-generated noises propagate to other nearby devices/equipment. For this reason, this study shows the EMI spectrum from both the DC input and AC output of the inverter. The results of both sides were additionally compared between the two case studies: ungrounded and grounded systems. The real EMI testing results were also compared with the EMI/electromagnetic compatibility standard. The results confirm the effectiveness and benefits of system grounding, integrated with the proposed passive EMI filter. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Energy Harvesting from Railway-Induced Vibrations Using Piezoelectric Nanogrid Systems(2025-01-01); ;Songsukthawan, Panapong; ;Bunjongjit, SuleeThis paper investigates the feasibility of piezoelectric nanogrid systems designed to harvest mechanical energy from vibrations induced by passing trains. Two membrane-based piezoelectric module mounting configurations - sleeper-mounted at a 5 cm offset from the rail, and recessed side-mounted - were rigorously analyzed using Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations for structural durability and energy-harvesting performance. Realistic excitation waveforms, synthesized from FEM modal characteristics combined with actual field measurement data, were employed in detailed MATLAB/Simulink electrical simulations. Results demonstrated a superior electrical current output from the side-mounted configuration (2.2839 A) compared to the sleeper-mounted arrangement (1.30195 A). A practical assessment revealed that only 9 side-mounted or 16 sleeper-mounted modules are necessary to effectively charge a standard 12V 20Ah LiFePO4 battery. Moreover, daily accumulated energy of approximately 68-70 Wh could reliably power essential low-power devices at railway stations, confirming the proposed piezoelectric nanogrid system's viability as a robust, efficient, and scalable energy-harvesting solution. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Downtime Reduction with Fast Restart Function in a Beverage Production System(2023-01-01); ;Phannil, Natthanon; ;Thongsuk, SurakitBunjongjit, SuleeBottled-beverage production systems require considerable machinery and sophisticated control systems. A malfunction in the production system can result in machine stoppages, thereby decreasing productivity and resulting in the production output not meeting the required target. Therefore, the problem of frequent stoppages of the production system must be resolved. The ‘Fast Restart Function’ is a proposed feature that can help reduce machine downtime by decreasing the time required for the product to drain from the conveyor. In this study, using this strategy, the investigated manufacturing system’s efficiency increased from 86.81% to 90.29%, enabling an increase in the average production capacity by 27,187 bottles per day, i.e., a 3.48 percent increment of the daily capacity. When employed in inefficient production systems or systems facing frequent shutdowns, this system is of considerable value for mitigating production stoppages.
