Item type:Publication, Rapid synthesis of potassium sodium niobate (K 1/2Na 1/ 2NbO3) lead-free piezoelectric powder using the combustion method(2013-12-01) ;Chaiyo, Nopsiri; ; ; Potassium sodium niobate (K1/<inf>2</inf>Na1/<inf>2</inf>NbO<inf>3</inf>) powder was synthesized successfully by the combustion synthesis. The raw materials of KNO<inf>3</inf>, NaNO<inf>3</inf> and Nb<inf>2</inf>O<inf>5</inf> were used with glycine as fuel. The thermal behaviour of the precursor was determined using thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and derivative thermo gravimetric (DTG) analysis. The conditions for preparing perovskite phase formation, influence of the fuel-to-oxidizer molar ratio, and crystal structure were characterized by the X-ray diffraction technique (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The morphology and particle size were investigated through a scanning electron microscope (SEM). © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Characterization and properties of BaTi3O3/MgO nanocomposite ceramics(2011-12-19) ;Vittayakorn, W. C. ;Bunjong, D.; In this research, BaTiO<inf>3</inf>./xMgO nanocomposite ceramics, where x = 0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 1.0 vol%, were prepared by a mixedoxide method. The effect of MgO additions on the phase formation, microstructure and dielectric properties of this system was investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and dielectric spectroscopy, respectively. From the results, XRD analysis showed that there is no unwanted phase except BaTiO <inf>3</inf> and MgO observed in these ceramics. Abnormal grain growth was found in pure BaTiO<inf>3</inf> ceramic with a 75.32 μm average grain size. After adding MgO nanoparticles into the system, the grain size significantly decreased to 0.55 μm and continuously decreased with increasing MgO content. For the dielectric properties, the pure BT ceramic exhibits a sharp and high dielectric peak whereas a low and broad peak is found in BT/MgO nanocomposite ceramics, which can be explained by the composite structure. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Phase transition behaviour and electrical properties of lead-free (K 0.5Na0.5)NbO3-LiNbO3-LiSbO 3 piezoelectric ceramics(2011-05-01); ;Niemcharoen, Surasak ;Sutapun, Manoon; The ternary system of 0.945(K<inf>0.5</inf>Na<inf>0.5</inf>NbO <inf>3</inf>)-(0.055 - x)LiNbO<inf>3</inf>-xLiSbO<inf>3</inf> [0.945KNN-(0.055 - x)LN-xLS]; x = 0.0-0.055 lead-free piezoelectric ceramics was fabricated by the conventional mixed oxide method with normal sintering. The crystal structure was studied by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results of XRD patterns show that complete solid solutions of the mixed phase between the orthorhombic and tetragonal perovskite phase were observed. The DSC and dielectric data show that the amount of LiSbO<inf>3</inf> in K<inf>0.5</inf>Na<inf>0.5</inf>NbO <inf>3</inf>-LiNbO<inf>3</inf> solid solution slightly decreases the paraelectric cubic-ferroelectric tetragonal phase transition (T<inf>C</inf>) to a low temperature. Furthermore, good dielectric and piezoelectric properties were observed at composition, x = 0.03. The polymorphic phase transition between the orthorhombic and tetragonal phases plays a very important role in enhancement of the piezoelectric properties of KNN-LN-LS ceramics. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. Item type:Publication, Utilization of eggshell as a low-cost precursor for synthesizing calcium niobate ceramic(2018-07-18) ;Kamkum, Phonphan; ; ;Woramongkolchai, SomsakThis study investigated the possibility of using calcium carbonate (CaCO<inf>3</inf>) from chicken eggshell biowaste as a starting material for synthesizing calcium niobate (CaNb<inf>2</inf>O<inf>6</inf>) powder through the conventional solid-state reaction. Phase formation of calcium niobate was studied as a function of calcination conditions by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The X-ray fluorescence results showed that the chicken eggshell contained more than 96·0% of calcium carbonate by weight. The structural characteristics of the calcium carbonate and calcium niobate powder were quantitatively evaluated by Rietveld refinement method from the XRD data. Rietveld refinement results verified that the eggshell powder exhibited a rhombohedral calcite (calcium carbonate) structure with lattice parameters a = b = 4·9812 ± 0·00059 Å (1Å = 0·1 nm) and c = 17·0342 ± 0·00292 Å with α = γ = 90° and β = 120°. Furthermore, the single phase of calcium niobate corresponded to the orthorhombic structure for space group Pbcn(60) obtained after the calcination process. The non-isothermal kinetic of calcium niobate was investigated by the Ozawa methods. Activated energy calculated using Ozawa methods was 1168 ± 29 kJ mol-1. Also, there was no significant difference in dielectric properties between calcium niobate ceramic using chicken eggshell waste as a starting material and calcium niobate ceramic using analytical-reagent-grade calcium carbonate. This study showed that calcium carbonate from chicken eggshell biowaste is an alternative starting material for synthesizing microwave dielectric calcium niobate ceramic. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A rapid synthesis of blue-pigment copper cyclotetraphosphate (cu2P4O12) ricelike grain nanoparticles at low temperature(2012-12-01) ;Chatjuthamanee, Warunthip; ; A blue-pigment copper cyclotetraphosphate Cu<inf>2</inf>P<inf>4</inf>O<inf>12</inf> was synthesized by a simple wet preparation method using copper oxide and phosphoric acid at 350 °C. The crystallite size obtained from X-ray line broadening is 53 ± 11 nm for the Cu<inf>2</inf>P<inf>4</inf>O<inf>12</inf>. The FTIR spectrum of Cu<inf>2</inf>P<inf>4</inf>O<inf>12</inf> is assigned a base on the P<inf>4</inf>O<inf>12</inf>4- ion in the structure, which indicates the most striking feature of cyclotetraphospate. XRD and FTIR results of the synthesized CuCu<inf>2</inf>P<inf>4</inf>O<inf>12</inf> indicate the pure monoclinic phase with space group C<inf>2h</inf>6 (C2/c). SEM micrographs of the synthesized Cu<inf>2</inf>P<inf>4</inf>O<inf>12</inf> show rice-like grains, a porous structure and agglomerations, which are important for a specific application. The UV-Vis-NIR spectrum confirms the octahedral coordination of the Cu (II) ion and blue pigment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effect of Sn content on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the ternary system (0.975-y)BaTiO3–0.025SrTiO3–yBaSnO3(2017-06-01) ;Mayamae, Jitkasem; ; ;Woramongkolchai, SomsakDesign of the polymorphic phase composition in the (0.975-y)BaTiO<inf>3</inf>–0.025SrTiO<inf>3</inf>–yBaSnO<inf>3</inf>; BT-ST-yBSn ternary system was based on the ferroelectric phase diagram. The dense ceramic of BT-ST-yBSn, with y = 0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08 and 0.10 compositions, was fabricated successfully via the solid-state reaction method. The effect of Sn substitution on the ferroelectric phase transition and piezoelectric properties was explored in order to achieve high-performance piezoelectric properties. All of the ceramics exhibited pure perovskite structures. Orthorhombic to tetragonal phase transition was evidenced clearly as a function of Sn content. The orthorhombic to tetragonal phase transition shifted close to ambient temperature by increasing the Sn content. The coexistent tetragonal and orthorhombic phases were exhibited at the composition, y = 0.04, and showed outstanding dielectric and piezoelectric properties, maximum relative permittivity (ε<inf>r max</inf>) of 11500 and piezoelectric coefficient (d<inf>33</inf>) of 450 pC/N. An outstanding reversible strain of about 0.12%, with a normalized piezoelectric coefficient (S<inf>max</inf>/E<inf>max</inf>) of 1280 pm/V at a low electric field (10 kV/cm), was observed clearly at the composition of the coexistent phase. The BT-ST-BSn ceramics are the most promising candidate for lead-free piezoelectric materials. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Non-isothermal kinetics of the thermal decomposition of sodium oxalate Na2C2O4(2012-03-01) ;Chaiyo, Nopsiri; ;Niemcharoen, Surasak; The thermal transformation of Na<inf>2</inf>C<inf>2</inf>O<inf>4</inf> was studied in N<inf>2</inf> atmosphere using thermo gravimetric (TG) analysis and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Na<inf>2</inf>C<inf>2</inf>O<inf>4</inf> and its decomposed product were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the X-ray diffraction technique (XRD). The non-isothermal kinetic of the decomposition was studied by the mean of Ozawa and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) methods. The activation energies (Eα) of Na<inf>2</inf>C<inf>2</inf>O<inf>4</inf> decomposition were found to be consistent. Decreasing Eα at increased decomposition temperature indicated the multi-step nature of the process. The possible conversion function estimated through the Liqing-Donghua method was 'cylindrical symmetry (R <inf>2</inf> or F<inf>1/2</inf>)' of the phase boundary mechanism. Thermodynamic functions (DH*, DG* and DS*), calculated by the Activated complex theory and kinetic parameters, indicated that the decomposition step is a high energy pathway and revealed a very hard mechanism. © Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary 2011. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Influence of Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3 on the phase transitions, electrical, and thermal properties of a PbZrO3 ceramic(2011-10-01); ; ;Niemcharoen, Surasak; The solid solution of a (1-x)PbZrO<inf>3</inf>-xPb(In<inf>1/2</inf>Nb <inf>1/2</inf>)O<inf>3</inf> (PZ-PIN) system, with x=0.00-0.50, was synthesized using the wolframite precursor method. The effects of the PIN content on the crystal structure, and the electrical and thermal properties of a PbZrO <inf>3</inf> ceramic were investigated using X-ray diffraction, dielectric spectroscopy, hysteresis measurement, and differential scanning calorimetry techniques. Furthermore, the morphology and grain size were determined using scanning electron microscopy. The results indicated that the pure perovskite phase was obtained for all compositions, and the solid solution, PZ-PIN, changed from orthorhombic to rhombohedral symmetry when the amount of PIN increased. A ferroelectric intermediate phase began to appear between the paraelectric and the antiferroelectric phases of pure PZ, with increasing PIN content. The temperature range width of the ferroelectric phase also increased continuously with increasing PIN. At room temperature, the polymorphic phase transition (PPT) was identified from the orthorhombic to the rhombohedral phase in (1-x)PZ-xPIN at the composition, x=0.40. The ceramics (x=0.40) with PPT close to room temperature exhibited excellent electrical properties (ε<inf>rmax</inf>= 33240 and P<inf>r</inf>=26.94 μC/cm2). © 2011 The American Ceramic Society. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The phase evolution with temperature in 0.94PbZrO3-0. 06Pb(Mg1/2W1/2)O3 antiferroelectric ceramic(2010-09-10) ;Charoonsuk, Piyanut; ; ;Niemcharoen, SurasakThe perovskite structure of the lead zirconate-lead magnesium tungstate ceramic, 0.94PbZrO<inf>3</inf>-0.06Pb(Mg<inf>1/2</inf>W<inf>1/2</inf>)O <inf>3</inf> (0.94PZ-0.06PMW), was prepared by the wolframite precursor method. The phase evolution with temperature in the 0.94PZ-0.06PMW ceramic was investigated, with dielectric permittivity, differential scanning calorimetry and polarization measurements. The ceramic was in the antiferroelectric phase when below 177 °C, based on dielectric measurement, and an intermediate phase was detected between 177 and 219 °C. Evidence from ferroelectric data was found to suggest that this intermediate phase is ferroelectric. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. Item type:Publication, X-ray absorption spectroscopy studies of Cu (2-x)Zn xP2O7 binary pyrophosphates(2013-01-01) ;Baitahe, Rattanai ;Kongmark, Chanapa; ; Binary metal pyrophosphates; Cu<inf>(2-x)</inf>Zn<inf>x</inf>P <inf>2</inf>O<inf>7</inf> (x = 0.0-2.0) compounds, were prepared via the solid solution method. The synthesize powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The local structure of Cu was analyzed by the mean of synchrotron X-ray absorption near the edge structure (XANES). The Cu2+-O1, Cu 2+-O2 and Cu-Cu/Zn distances determined are extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements at the Cu K-edge, with a distance of about 1.52, 2.11, and 2.74 Å. The correlation between the structural changes and Cu content was analyzed and discussed. The analysis of the EXAFS spectra collected at the Cu K-edge indicates that the local structure around Cu atoms also is affected by the introduction of Zn atoms in the structure. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
