Any malfunction or failure of an LV motor can lead to production downtime, resulting in reduced output and potential revenue loss. Therefore, it is essential to conduct diagnostic assessments that evaluate the reliability of the insulation system in LV motors. Partial Discharge (PD) testing is recognized as a highly effective and reliable method for assessing the condition of motor insulation. This paper presents PD testing on LV motors to investigate the behavior of partial discharges using multiple analysis techniques. Nowadays, the palm oil is a new alternative liquid insulation that may be used in a transformer. Normally, the characteristics of liquid insulation can be investigated and analyzed by various methods. One of the diagnosis methods widely used is a dissolved gas analysis technique (DGA). The propose of this paper is to study the interpretation of dissolved gases in the palm oil compared with that of in the mineral oil which is caused by different kinds of breakdown phenomena, i.e. AC breakdown, positive lightning impulse breakdown, and negative lightning impulse breakdown. An AC breakdown voltage test according to IEC 60156 was performed by using 3 difference gap spacing which were 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mm. For lightning impulse tests, the test cell was contained needle-sphere electrodes with 10, 15, and 20 mm gap different spacing. The lightning impulse tests were performed in accordance with IEC 60897. Each experiment was performed for 5, 10, and 15 times. For a material preparation, the mineral oil and the palm oil was heated at 80oC for 12 hours. Then, it was naturally cooled before filling into the test cell to perform AC and lightning impulse breakdown tests. After that, the mineral oil and the palm oil was sampled out of the test cell to perform the DGA experiment. The dissolved gases from the mineral oil and the palm oil were interpreted by applying IEC and IEEE gas interpretation techniques. It was found that the breakdown voltages of the palm oil were less than the mineral oil but the palm oil generates more dissolved gases than the mineral oil. Moreover, Duval pentagon for natural ester fluid seemed to be the most suitable method to interpret dissolved gases in the palm oil compared with the IEC ratio, Doernenburg ratio, Roger ratio, and Duval triangle. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Dielectric analysis of degraded stator bars of a hydro generator(2022-04-01); ;Phumipunepon, Natnaree ;Srinangyam, Chissanupong ;Jeenmuang, SiwakornThis paper presents the investigation of dielectric analysis of degraded stator bars by Polarization and Depolarization Current (PDC) measurement. The stator bars obtained from the 30-year in-service synchronous machine were divided into two groups. The first group was the unmodified stator bars. The second group was the simulated degradation stator bars which were composed of the thermal stress stator bars, conductive tap abrasion stator bars, multiple air cavity stator bars, multiple oil filled stator bars and multiple water filled stator bars. PDC test experiment was performed with the stator bar samples. PDC test results were analyzed in time domain and in frequency domain with the derived parameters i.e. R<inf>dc</inf>, real and imaginary part of complex capacitance, C ratio, conduction loss factor and polarization loss factor. It was found that PDC shapes obtained from the conductive tape abrasion stator bar and multiple water filled cavity stator bar were clearly different from that of the unmodified stator bar. For other case studies, the derived parameters showed the usefulness in analysis the degraded stator bar characteristics. For example, the increase in the imaginary capacitance and conduction loss factor can be observed from most cases of degraded stator bar test results. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

The BaTiO<inf>3</inf> has been interesting for a decade for use to improve the liquid insulation characteristics. Such nanoparticles were used to mixed with mineral oil, natural ester, and palm oil. This paper focuses on a comparison of mineral oil, natural ester, and palm oil with BaTiO<inf>3</inf> by the Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) technique. Hydrogen (H2), Methane (CH4), Acetylene (C2H2), Ethylene (C2H4), Ethane (C2H6), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO<inf>2</inf>) were mainly considered gases to compare because they are in the gas limitation used to diagnose a transformer problem. This researcher found that palm oil produces the most gas after undergoing thermal stress but its generating trend was better than others because the gas-producing rate decreases at higher temperatures. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

The PD measuring circuit suggested in IEC 60270:2000 is used to record Partial discharge signals. Independent parameters such as phase and charge of PD patterns were recorded. The phase value will be encoded into the charge array and Transformer Neural Network is constructed using Positional Embedding and Transformer Encoder Layer. 80% of the recorded data will be used as a training data and 20% recorded data was used for testing of the classification models. The visual inspection of the stator winding insulation was carried out during the annual preventive maintenance. Several defects in the area of the end winding stator were evidenced. Thereafter, the refurbishment of these problems was performed to improve the stator winding insulation condition, and the offline PD & PDC test was conducted accordingly. Besides, the online PD was continuously monitored, through capacitive PD sensors which have been installed on the terminal of the generator two units per phase. The operating conditions during online PD measurement were also recorded. Various types of defects were simulated i.e., corona discharge, surface discharge, and floating discharge inside the simulated MV switchgear. The transient earth voltage (TEV) was employed as a PD sensor to acquire the PD signals generated by the simulated PD defects. The TEV sensors were installed on the simulated metal enclosures MV switchgear to detect electromagnetic (EM) pulse radiated through such metal housing. Besides, high-frequency current transformer (HFCT) sensors were also used for a purpose similar to that of a TEV. Based on laboratory test results, it was found that when the external structural material and internal partition wall of the MV switchgear have greater insulation properties, some of the PD signals detected by the TEV sensor tend to exhibit a significant decrease in signal magnitude. The detected PD results of the simulating PD sources inside the MV switchgear will be presented in this paper. Item type:Publication, The Study of Partial Discharge Test on Service-Aged Cable Termination(2023-01-01) ;Laohapongpan, Trinai; ;Kerdmanee, Sittipong ;Lacharochana, SakdaJeenmuang, SiwakornThis paper presents the partial discharge (PD) testing on the plug-in gas-insulated switchgear cable termination taken out of service. The shield electrodes were designed to geometrically electric field control in the area of the insulation screen edge of the cable part. The PD test of the cable termination was performed. In addition, a computed radiography technique with X-ray was also performed to evaluate the mechanical integrity of the supporting spring of the cable termination. The fatigue of the supporting spring was evidenced. Moreover, the cable termination was disassembled and re-assembled to perform the PD test again. The PD characteristics, including PD magnitude, PD inception voltage (PDIV), and phase-resolved PD (PRPD) patterns, were reported. The PD test results revealed that the PDIV was lower than the operating voltage. Besides, the PRPD patterns exhibited internal discharge inside the cable termination. From the PD test results and computed radiographic, it was assumed that they might be caused by discharge in the interface between the stress cone and epoxy insulator. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Effect of Surface Leakage Current on Frequency Domain Spectroscopy of 22 kV OIP Bushing(2024-01-01) ;Rojanasunan, Warisanan ;Chumpiboon, Komin ;Udomluksananon, Patt ;Jeenmuang, SiwakornIn this paper the dielectric response in frequency domain or frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) is used to assess the effect of surface leakage current both from high voltage side and ground side on the FDS results of OIP bushings. The test object in this paper is a 22 kV OIP bushing which is out of service. The surface leakage current can be simulated using the copper tape as a bandage around the bushing core in several locations. From the FDS results, several parameters i.e., dissipation factor, capacitance, and capacitance ratio together with frequency scanning of capacitance and dissipation factor from many cases were investigated to get the fundamental knowledge of how to interpret the FDS result of OIP bushing. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Experiment of Partial Discharge for Cast Resin Transformer(2024-01-01) ;Aiamrungruang, Phitthaya; ;Dorkmai, Kritsada ;Maneerot, SakdaJeenmuang, SiwakornDry-type cast resin transformers, utilizing epoxy resin insulation instead of traditional liquid insulation like mineral oil, are designed to prioritize safety, avoid fire hazards, be environmentally compatible, and endure short circuits well. Limitations of dry-type transformers are the installation area by which it should be dry, free from dust, excessive moisture, fertilizers, chemicals, and other corrosive fumes or fumes. This paper investigates the Partial Discharge (PD) phenomena occurring on a 12 kV dry-type transformer surface using HighFrequency Current Transformers (HFCT) with 100 kHz -20 MHz bandwidth as a PD detection device. The simulated PD sources were made from the conductive wire. Moreover, the scheme of winding connections in the dry-type transformer related to cross-talk phenomena between transformer coils is also reported. The recorded Phase-resolved PD (PRPD) and the PD Inception Voltage (PDIV) have been summarized and compared, as described in this paper.
