Item type:Publication, Using wired hart and wirelesshart together for PLC and SCADA system(2015-01-01); ; ; Subpayasomboon, SirametWireless Technology has promoted in the process automation because it does not require power and communication wiring for field instruments that enables reduced engineering cost. At the same time, end-users consider the developments of process automation by using wireless devices due to the growing of the new plants and replacing analog or wired HART plants. The paper presents a technique to modify wired HART device to be WirelessHART device and to configure it for communication with other WirelessHART devices. A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and SCADA system is used to provide centralized device information, historian, and HMI. Installation and configuration techniques of wired HART, THUM adapter or repeater, WirelessHART, HART gateway are described. In addition, engineering and SCADA software are assigned based on OPC to share WirelessHART data with gateway, PLC and SCADA system. The experimental results by using S7-300 Siemens PLC, WW InTouch, and HART devices in level process control are included to confirm the system workability. Moreover, the technique could be applied to collect data for end-user support to quickly and easily gain the benefits of device diagnostic and to decide the plant operation and planning. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Automatic weighing machine for improving competitiveness of Thai SMEs in seafood cold storage business(2016-02-10) ;Nimsiriwangso, Banyat; ; Ukakimaparn, PrapartDue to sharply rising labor costs in Thailand, many small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in various industrial sectors including seafood industry need to improve their competitive capability. The aim of proposed system is to replace workers with automatic machine for upgrading Thai SMEs in seafood cold storage business to survive and maintain their independence. A technique to design and implement an automatic weighing machine for packaging process of fresh whole fish products is presented. The proposed machine is not only specially developed for use in wet environments but also simple to operate and easy to maintain. Its total cost is about one-fifth cheaper than imported machines. Performances of the implemented machine have been observed at a seafood cold storage in Mahachai, Samut Sakhon, Thailand. With automatically weighting operations, the productivity can be increased by more than 1.6 times, while the labor cost can be reduced to 0.625 times, compared to manual operations. Item type:Publication, Hmi implementation using radar chart for dual-loop system(2019-08-01); ; This article presents a method to implement the Human Machine Inter-face (HMI) for providing high visibility of dual-loop system to encourage good operations and maintenance practices. The proposed method is based on the employment of radar chart to display key performance metrics of simultaneous and independent control of two identical loops for extensive event monitoring. Two level control loops utilizing two Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) function blocks of a single Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) are used as the case study to show the workability of the proposed HMI implementation. Each loop consists of a transmitter for measuring the controlled level an inverter for inverting the PLC output to adjust a pump speed, and a power meter form easuring the pump power consumption. The transmitter outputs from both control loops are applied to the PLC analog input module, and then separately scaled to be available to each PID block. The PLC analog output module is used to pass the PID block outputs for manipulating inlet flow rates. The performance metrics including the set point, process variable, manipulated variable, and pump power consumption of both control loops are detected and collected by the HMI/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)station. All detected data of four performance metrics are represented on the axes of radar chart in real time by using the Wonder ware In Touch software. The script functions to save and load the specified data to the SQL server database are also created on the HMI/SCADA station. Item type:Publication, Effective energy saving for cold rolling mill driven by large DC motors in steel production industry(2014-02-04); ;Julsereewong, PrasitLerdlum, NattawootA useful technique to reduce power consumption for cold rolling mill driven by large direct current (DC) motors in steel production industry is introduced. The proposed method is based on automatically stopping cooling units and shunt-field winding exciters of DC motors for operating the mill in maintenance mode and long-time stand-by mode. The smart relay modules and normally-closed contractors used for energy saving are controlled via an existing direct digital control (DDC) system. Performance of the proposed technique has been observed at a Sendzimir cold rolling mill using the stand driven by three couples of 2,150 kW DC motors in Thailand. Item type:Publication, Flow metering modification for avoiding control valve cavitation in hydrocarbon industry(2016-11-01) ;Pilaoon, Pongsak; ;Julsereewong, PrasitThis paper presents a practical technique for solving noise and vibration problems caused by control value cavitation in existing pipeline measurement system for condensate residue flow metering of an aromatics plant in hydrocarbon industry. A cause of cavitation in the control valve is due to change in the purpose of flow metering system from use for custody transfer measurement to use for normal process monitoring and control. In order to avoid damaging effects of cavitation, pipeline modification by installing a new monitoring and control system is proposed. Based on the recommended practice of International Society of Automation (ISA) for evaluating control valve cavitation, the evaluation results confirm that no incipient cavitation occurs in the selected control valve for new installation in the proposed modification under normal service conditions. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

National Instrument, NI USB-8486 is the hardware which is designed to connect to Foundation Fieldbus segment and Labview software with NI FBUS Communications Manager API is used to develop the diagnostic tool for parameters checking, stroke testing, data logging for signature comparisons and offline analysis in the control valve. The tool not impacts with other Fieldbus devices and controller in the H1 segment. Therefore, the end user can use the tool online and offline in the segment and reduce engineering cost for expensive vendor's asset management software. Item type:Publication, Real-time monitoring and reporting alarm system for pH measurement in wet scrubbers(2016-01-24) ;Promsawat, Thipichpon; ; In order to improve a maintenance of wet scrubber operation for achieving harmful and polluting gas removal efficiency at a latex glove manufacturer in Thailand, this paper presents a technique to implement the real-time monitoring and reporting alarm system for pH measurement in wet scrubbers. All pH meter outputs are applied to an existing programmable logic controller (PLC) slave located on the master-slave network for production line control. A PLC master is communicated to an operator workstation running the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software. In addition, measurement data from the SCADA software are automatically transferred to the statistical process control (SPC) software installed in a data historian server. Traditional routine manual data collection and non real-time email notification are replaced by the proposed system, which provides the continuous automatic data collection as well as the real-time display and alarm functions. The automatic and reliable email notification in real time can be also obtained. Item type:Publication, Feedforward hybrid control using foundation fieldbus: A case study of temperature control with DeltaV system(2018-06-08); ;Jaroenla, Sutee; With Foundation Fieldbus (FF) technology, a control strategy can incorporate function blocks running in both host controller and field devices, which is known as hybrid control. This paper focuses on implementation of feedforward hybrid control by utilizing basic function blocks in H1 field devices and advanced function block in host controller to provide a guideline for detailed design to specify of the FF philosophy to be used in a greenfield or brownfield project for maximizing end user achievement. A laboratory-scale FF H1 segment configured and operated on the DeltaV host system for feedforward on temperature control is used as an illustrative case study to analyze three different configurations by assigning control function block into different field devices in terms of the network load for scheduled communications during segment macrocycle. Experimental results obtained from the preferred control loop with minimum scheduled traffic load verify that an improvement in disturbance response can be achieved. Using control block in field device for FF-based hybrid architecture can, therefore, be applied for creating the feedforward control with disturbance anticipation capability. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Condition monitoring based on failure modes and effects analysis using scada software for wirelesshart devices(2018-04-01); ; This paper presents the design and implementation of condition monitoring for WirelessHART devices by using the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software called WW InTouch. The design of the proposed system is based on a concept of failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) for creating the human machine interface (HMI) on the operator workstation. The implementation of the proposed system is based on a technique of WirelessHART-Modbus TCP data transfers by mapping the HART tag names from the field wireless devices to the Modbus registers in the WirelessHART gateway. The script functions running on the HMI for detecting the published diagnostic data of the monitored devices and for identifying the FMEA results of device and power supply failures are created. A WirelessHART temperature transmitter and a wired HART control valve positioner connected with Wireless THUM adapter are employed as the interested field devices for monitoring their abnormal operating conditions to verify the workability of the proposed system. Experimental results from the failure mimic show that the proposed system based on FMEA can function correctly.1
